And there is no one like that out there. Someone awkward, deceptively fast, with serious power. I dont see anyone with that kinda style at 147/154. Until someone like that emerges, Spence goes without a loss.
Thoughts?
Paul Williams would beat these guys today very likely.
Williams, Mosley, Cotto, Clottey, Floyd, Margarito...that generation was just better
Paul Williams had everyone shook at 147. People forget but Paul was campaigning at 3 weight classes simultaneously.
I'd be at least tempted to entertain the possibility of Maidana beating Spence, but Mayorga would get smoked. Spence hits too hard and too clean for someone that open to last, and Spence isn't as vulnerable as Vernon Forrest ended up being. Spence would do to Mayorga what Shane Mosley did.
Any decent fighter with power stands a chance to stop Spence. He has no iron chin. It’s alright, but I’ve seen him wobbled by Lartei, Brook and now Porter a few times. Spence is delusional, for awhile he’s been saying he has a real good chin, he thought he proved it vs Brook, but Brook wasn’t hitting him hard for w/e reason, guessing position, or just lazy, was very flat-footed in that fight, but I don’t care to watch past Brook fights to see if that’s how he fights, point is he kept throwing arm punches. A puncher can take him out, especially since he doesn’t know how to get out of trouble when hurt. Unless he gets to Maidana first and can stick on him till he breaks, Maidana stands a chance of beating the breaks off him and stopping him in the 5-8 rd points, Mayorga probably has a better shot.
You can beat Spence how ever the fuk you want, it doesn’t take a pressure fighter. You can easily outbox him too, but you’ll need a bit of durability or at least some power. Anyone notice how one-handed he was vs Porter too? Outside of conditioning he’s a fairly average fighter with good accuracy and decent power. If Khan can get back on form with Ariza he can put on a performance similar to the Maidana fight, with a real good chance to stop Spence.

Margarito?
Forrest never consistently went to Mayorga's body. And the 2nd fight was close.
Forrest got jobbed in the rematch. He fought scared in the beginning so that gave off the impression that he was losing but once he made adjustments, he outpointed Mayorga.

Thoughts?I think Crawford has a good chance to win although I would pick Spence and I think Spence beats both Maidana and Moyorga because he is far more skilled and just as tough.
Imagine if he hit like Maidana?
Oh definitely would of been a totally different fight
Imo , Spence was staying in the pocket and trading only because he knew that everything coming back was nothing to fear
Don’t get me wrong , accumulation does count for something ( meaning it could break a man down , no pun intended ) but many of Porter’s shot were either haymakers or simply missed the target
Kind of hard to place your shots when your just rushing the other fighter unless your really someone special
I wouldn’t be so sure of that especially after Saturday’s fight
I think the blueprint to beating Spence is to drag him into a dogfight ( to bad Porter doesn’t have the firepower )
Had he had some power I think Spence would of been reluctant to throw so much
It would definitely diminish his body attack knowing that something coming back can hurt him
Imagine if he hit like Maidana?
Were they nightmares for De La Hoya and Brook?
I meant generally. In Boxing, certain styles have advantages over other styles and skilled brawlers usually have the upperhand against conventional fighters.
Mayorga was past his best when he faced oscar and didnt even eat or train properly. Oscar was over the hill too but he took that fight very seriously and it showed.
I can see Mayorga beating Spence. Guys like Mayorga and porter are txtbook fighters’ worst nightmare.
Prime didnt last long but Mayorga would be a terror in today’s WW division.
One fight we never got was Mayorga-Margarito
Spence reminds me of a lil more polished Vernon Forrest. Mayorga just swung with him. In order to beat Spence you have to be willing to take that punch that KD Porter and throw 1 harder in return.
Spence has looked very beatable against the only two top guys he's fought, Brook and Porter (not counting Garcia for obvious reasons). He's a good fighter but he has weaknesses like everyone else. Put him on the back foot and he looks like a deer caught in the headlights. He's only steamrolled the guys he was supposed to steamroll. He's good but he still has more to prove.
