First, I think Pac got robbed against Horn. But, everyone saw that Pac was bothered by the physicality and bullying. He didn't have a lot of answers for that. Porter is a much higher level bully that Horn.
Whatcha think??
Pac is the better fighter for sure but is this a "styles make fights" thing?...
Horn's style exposed Packy so I would have thought it obvious that Porter would have a definite advantage in styles too given that they are similar. That plus Porter showed us against Spence that he can go 12 hard rounds, something that Packy has shown he has trouble with now.
This seems to be one of those Packy biased topics, as usual it's attracting lots of one sided comment that's ignoring relevant fight results.
Hatton and margarito was like 10 years ago. That is the whole point with Horn, Horn was a C level fighter whose style match up made Pac struggle. Pac from the margo fight or hatton fight would have knocked Horn out.
People should have expected Porter to trouble spence, every loss Porter had was competitive. Spence was crazy thinking he would get a knockout. The Thurman and Brook that Porter had competitive fights with were more prime and uninjured, they were not the same guys they are today.
I don't know man. I'm not trying underrate Shawn. I just don't see Shawn troubling Pac at all even at this stage. I wouldn't even bet on Shawn that showed up the other night against Spence.
Shawn's style is tailor made for Pac. Even 40 year old-out of prime-gasses out in the middle of the fight Pac beats Shawn 99 times out if 100.
The Horn fight is a poor basis on how Pac vs. Shawn would go down.
Am I the only one who think that Porter gets murked by Pacquiao?
People are putting too much stock on the Horn fight and Porter being unexpectedly competitive against Spence.
Pacquiao whooped Hatton and Margarito, who are better pressure fighters than Porter.
Yes, that was absolute prime Pacquiao but he still has the awkward footwork and hand speed that would be an absolute nightmare for pressure fighters.
You don't beat Pacquiao by bullying him. The Horn fight is one of the worst robberies in recent memory.
Bullying Pacquiao is a terrible fight plan even at this stage of his career and any trainer who suggests that should be fired

Yes but you quoted me saying...
I said it would be hard fight...and that I think Manny would win a hard fight :dunno:.
Yes, understood, difference of opinion is never a problem! We'll only find out who's right if Manny fights porter next year, which is a possibility. Thanks
This is boxing scene where people don’t much about boxing. They just follow a hype train wherever it goes.
Porter tried that style with PAC he’s getting dropped at least 2-3 times by the 6th round, and then he’s gonna change the style up to adapt and PAC cruises to a UD. Even now at 40.
I can’t believe members of a board called “boxing scene” really know very little about boxing/boxers. Astounding to me.
I think Bud definitely beats Manny at this point. Spence probably still beats Manny but I am not as sure after the Porter fight.
I thought him fighting Thurman was a toss up but Pacquiao stepped up.
Porter gets absolutely destroyed. That bull rushing style he has is absolutely tailor made for pacquiao's lead left.

Yes... pac will struggle against the style of porter.. at 40 pac no longer has the stamina to fight like that.. in his prime of course he beats both handily..
I’ll be scared for pac to fight porter than spence.. at least the way spence fights he’ll give the pacman space and room to operate his own shots and breathe..
Porter will tire out old Manny with that mauling and aggression.. hell even a young bigger powerful spence was taken to deep waters. Porter will push smaller pac towards the corner most of the time if he can do that to spence
I do think porter is better than Horn.. horn gets spark in there by spence as well.
Pac came underprepared against horn and paid the price for it... i still think he did enough to win that ugly fight.. when i rewatched it it’s 8-4 or 7-5 for pac if you’re being generous.. but horn was very live in there up to the last round
When Porter's name was brought up as a possible opponent for Pacquiao after Thurman, Freddie Roach laughed and said no because "That guy used to be are sparring partner."

stop being a drama queen... the only times pac was trully robbed were vs bradley 1 and jeff freaking horn
there are a few that claim robbery vs floyd but they are in a huge minority
Opinions mean nothing when the record says otherwise. Well except for drama queens.
They have sparred a lot of rounds which always changes fights. I think those sessions at the wildcard probably helped shape Porter as the fighter he is today, especially the mental side.
I think it's a tough ask for Manny at this age, not impossible but tough. I think it could go either way, Manny is a bit more compact, faster and closer to Porters height which might actually help him defend and land in close quarters compared to Spence, I also think Spence hasn't actually got a lot experience at that level.
Just a footnote - I didn't think the Horn fight was a robbery at all, not sure why people think that, it was a close fight, apart from the 9th Manny was the one being hurt more often.
Good post man...I agree with the last paragraph for sure...nice to see an objective post on here
I don't think Horn did anything particularly dirty/illegal with Pac...he was just very physical with him...and at the beginning of most rounds he would rush at him and bully him against the ropes and seemingly had some success there...I had no issue with him winning...I think people give him too much grief for that win.
Yeah I think Porter is more or less a better version of Horn and the fight could go similar to Horn-Pac...I do think Manny would have periods of success vs Shawn, when Shawn tried to box Manny...but at times Porter would probably bully Manny around and make it an ugly/close fight.
I actually think Manny would have a shot against Spence based on what I saw last night...I used to think Spence would fold Manny up but I am not so sure now...I think Manny could get in and out and score some points, and I don't know if Spence has enough firepower to really hurt Manny/get him out of there...I almost think Porter would be a more physical matchup for Manny than Spence would...never really thought that would be the case.
Well, without getting into the "robbery", as the record shows a loss for Pacquiao, what I was trying to say (if you didn't get it) was that Horn showed a style that Manny really struggled with and Porter can do it a lot better imo. Just an opinion, no slight on Manny.
Yes but you quoted me saying...
yes Porter's aggression would make it a dog fight and hard for Pac but baring a robbery I think the version of Pac (Pac on a good night) who fought Thurman wins.
I said it would be hard fight...and that I think Manny would win a hard fight :dunno:.
Except that blueprint required a robbery...Horn didn't really beat Pac.

If that fight happened it's gonna be 2020 Pacquiao and Porter will be a VERY hard night for a (nearly) 41 yr old 70 fight veteran. Horn gave Porter a blueprint that Porter could execute better, and I see him beating Manny at this point in time.
I also think Porter beats Thurman if that was to be both guys' next fight!

Let's all agree that every time Pac gets beaten it's a robbery LOL.
With that out of the way, the Porter - Spence fight very strongly indicated that both would beat Packy. The physicality and endurance shown in their fight would be enough.
You kinda took a dump on your own credibility in the first paragraph but your conclusion regarding 40 year old Pac is probably right.
