VAR in boxing? I'm not so sure the sport needs it. And last weekend in Las Vegas was an example of the risks involved in using instant replays. Tyson Fury was caught by a punch which opened up two horrific cuts around his right eye in his thrilling clash with Otto Wallin. Click Here To Read More]
I saw that live. Live tv, not live in person lol. That gash looked like a pulsating, gaping ******. You could see into his mind.
How did the doctors not stop that fight?! Badou Jack almost had his brains spilling out of his forehead.
Tony Weeks as the official has a duty to look out for the boxers: if a official sees that a boxer is not fit to continue as the referee he/she has the power to stop the fight. Tyson would of been stopped by most officials under the circumstances.
Tony Weeks is SICK, have you seen Badou Jack vs. Marcus Browne? Weeks was the ref. Something is wrong with that guy.

Luckily for Fury, the decision on whether he could fight on or not was made by the ringside doctor, not the incompetent ref. Fury won the fight and didn't need plastic surgery on his cut eye, so clearly, the doc made the right call.
Weeks could and arguably should have disqualified Wallin for deliberately trying to rip Fury's cut open after the bell, right in front of his face. He didn't even deduct a point for that. He also gave Fury's corner incorrect information on a commission ruling which could have led them to pulling Fury out and forfeiting the fight.
Those are the things you would be complaining about, if you weren't a biased Fury hating troll.
Right now I think that every well known boxing judge I’ve seen in the last ten years has done more than one awful job. Maybe I’m fussier nowadays? Maybe the longer you see boxing the more ****ty stuff you see?
So Wallin knew the cut had been caused by a punch, and the ref told Fury it had been caused an accidental foul, which could have cost Tyson the fight.
Now explain to me how that means Wallin got screwed by the ref?

Denying a over-matched opponent his chance to force a stoppage that he earned fair and square is WRONG. Otto Wallin got screwed anyways ( despite the fact that Nevada made the right call ) by referee Tony Weeks.
Common sense bruh. Otto knew he landed the left hand that caused Fury's cut, are you this dumb?

This exercise in stupidity makes absolutely no sense. Warren is using some sort of Chewbacca defense, or maybe he's running his mouth just to stay in the public's eye. Just look at his premises and the conclusion he makes:
1. Ref made the call about the cut.
2. Instant replay (VAR) showed that the ref was wrong and the comision corrected his call.
Conclusion: Therefore, VAR should not be allowed in boxing.
Can anybody see any sense in his idiocy?
All he's really doing is complaining about the commission overruling the ref's call, because it meant that if the fight had been stopped, Fury would have lost.
In this particular case, the VAR didn't show what Warren would have liked it to show. Therefor, VAR shouldn't be used in boxing, period. Typical Frank Warren.
Are you really this dumb?
Wallin's corner wouldn't have known they could force a TKO if they hadn't been informed of the commission's ruling.

Regardless if the Nevada commission had informed Otto Wallin or not, any corner would of advised Otto Wallin to further aggravate Fury's injury. If the doctors, or Nevada was not going to stop the fight, Fury's corner would of if they actually cared about Tyson's future and health.
Otto would of forced a TKO.

You're not wrong, this is the worst example to try and use against VAR, Fury's corner not being informed or hearing was an issue, ESPN informing them is an issue, correctly identifying it was a punch not a head clash is a clear example of it working.
You hit that right on brother
Right out of the old ball park

You are clearly assuming that Wallin and his corner weren't informed about the commission's ruling and didn't know they would win if the fight was stopped.
And you are clearly wrong about that.
If Wallin's corner didn't know they could win by forcing a stoppage, then why were they telling him repeatedly to target Fury's cut, and why did Wallin himself deliberately try to make the cut worse by raking it with his glove?

So... by the logic here, it is NOT the video replay that is the problem, it is the process? Well, fix the process.
1) Have very defined uses for it. I think Warrens point of preserving the flow of the bout is 100% legit, and too many video replays would destroy that. The cuts in this fight is a perfect use. Late hits or punches while the fighter is down are two more easy calls to use replay. I also would want the VAR to be used to correct a KD that was actually a slip, and vice-versa. Not sure I would want to get to far in the weeds, but I would be fine to use VAR to verify if a point was taken by the ref for low blows. (I would not want to use VAR to go back and penalize a fighter for low blows not scored.)
2) Have the video replay judge have a very set time frame to make a call.
3) Have one person ion each corner be the communication for the video replay judge. That way the judge knows exactly who to inform.
This is not that hard, but it is boxing so a unified front is 2 decades away.

Fackin fish faced kunt, why not have VAR?? it WOULD clearly show the punch caused the cut, it was only weekes who saw it any different oh and of course the pikey crowd. Warren tryin to put spin on nothing, it was a punch and the diddycoy ran his luck again, brave to carry on but should have been awarded to Wallin as a stoppage end of. Every fighter will now aim for that weak spot and even just a glancing shot will open it up.
He ain’t fighting wilder next, this is warrens next excuse, he’s still just doin the prep work before the bombshell.
Frank Warren is only considering the adverse outcome of the 'Instant Video Replay' ruling for Tyson Fury but, Warren fails to see it from Otto Wallin's side ; Wallin did cut Fury with a legal punch, he (Wallin ) would be denied a TKO stoppage if the Nevada Athletic Boxing Commission ruled it a 'Accidental Clash of Heads'.

There may be more problems using VAR in boxing than in sports like rugby, tennis, etc, but the problems are not insurmountable.
Here's my idea on how it should be handled:
Make sure that whoever has the final call on issues like the cause of a cut has access to instant VAR. Inform the ref and both corners of the decision reached at the earliest possible opportunity.
If the injury is so bad that the ref or a ringside doctor stops the fight before the cause can be definitely ascertained from VAR footage, wait until the footage has been studied before doing anything else.
Is the Boxing World that stupid that even if Fury lost due to the cut, that it would stop the Wilder rematch happening? Like why?
The young generation of casual boxing fans believe a record without a 0 makes a fighter really special. When the record is no more perfect, the magic is gone, and there might be less PPV. It is all about hype, not skills or a deep understanding of the sport.
When Joshua draws 80-90.000 to a stadium, how many of those guys knows boxing compared to a crowd of 200 who sees 10 amateur matches followed by one professional match on the evening in the local gym? I am sure a lot of those casuals turned their back on Joshua once the 0 was gone, and if he looses again they will think he's done and look for their next superstar idol with a perfect record.
I think some managers are highly aware of this, and it is therefore especially important to keep the 0 of both Wilder and Fury until they meet again for their rematch. VAR could make the sport less corrupt, and thus cost the A-side a lot of money.

I could understand if he got beaten up, maybe, but if he was clear as day the better fighter and loses to a cut, then I think the Boxing world is just stupid to deny future opportunities.
