Did this change your opinion about Canelo's chances?
I don't think Yarde is very good but he did almost finish Kovalev at one point. I like Sergey and rooted for him but he made a lot of mistakes, doesn't have the same power or speed he used to. Prime Kov would murder him. But, I feel like this would favor Canelo a little at this point. How about you?
Canelo not only wins but I think really dominates or even stops Kovalev.
I cant help but think of what the two training camps would look like.
Kov was so tired this fight, he has a drinking problem, is the motivation really going to be there when he signs the contract for the biggest payday of his career and knows he is set for retirement? His biggest advantage is his size and for that all he has to do is show up, he doesnt have to work for it. I can see a lazy training camp for Kov.
Canelo is in his prime and would be moving to yet another weight class. He will be highly motivated and on top of that he wont have to drain himself for the weigh in, he will be fresher than ever and especially if he throws in a shady rehydration clause against Kovalev, its going to be bad for Kov, he is going to attack that body viciously.
That's what I'm thinking. It didn't take much for Yarde to almost fold Kovalev. I cringe when I think of what Canelo's body work might do. Bad fight at this point in Kovalev's career and that's exactly why Canelo is targeting him and no one else.
I think you guys are underestimating just how difficult it is to take rounds off Kovalev...I am convinced Canelo can hurt him, but hes going to find it difficult to get to Sergey...just like everyone else, and maybe even more so as he doesn't have the dimensions and the strength in his torso to completely bull his way in and he wont be able to finesse on the way in consistently enough...that's how I see it anyway
Yeah, but Yarde is a big, hard-punching light heavyweight and Canelo is a middleweight. Canelo is most likely a better body puncher, but I just think the weight class differential will cancel that out, and he's also going to be fighting a reach disadvantage and a hefty height disadvantage. I think that's going to be too much to overcome, especially against someone with a hard, fast, accurate jab like Kovalev.
This is how I feel, very good post. The only other x factor is how much has Kovalev got left, if he gets old over night then Canelo could pull it off,but I lean Kovalev, I think he UD's him.
The size difference is crazy, and Kovalev has got great feet and ability to win rounds. Hes a very difficult guy to take rounds from.
canelo's power will be nothing for kovalev. his power will not let him get a KO. the only chance he has if Kovalev gasses out and that IS def a very real possibility.
I lean towards kovalev by UD or tko but if it goes 12 no way canelo loses a decision. The scorecards are already written even now.
My Opinion hasn’t Changed
If Canelo / Kovalev happens , Canelo will beat the brakes off Kov , Kovs is just a name at this point he’s done,
Despite the KO He wasn’t impressive against Yarde , He Looked old / slow and seemed even weaker to body attacks then previous fights and was almost taken out. Kov gets Props for gritting this one out but next time he fights a top shelf fighter he loses
I don’t even get how people think Kov even stands a chance
Yarde whos untested has absolutely no experience against any decent opponents and was only the slightest underdog going into the fight. That should Tell everyone all they need to know about where Kov is at.
This is Just Canelo Team Doing What Canelo team does and having fans think this is a credible because it’s a fighter with a Name but who isn’t anywhere near What they were and at this point just low hanging fruit waiting to get scalped and picked off. Who’s name will look great on a resume and will have people fooled about Canelo place in the sport
Let`t get real, yarde punches much harder than Canelo. Canelo is 160 fighter that fought at 168 once. Yarde is a true 175 fighter.
Kova beats Canelo just like GGG beat Brook.
Kovalev is past his best but he's not done yet. Do people realise how much bigger Yarde is than Canelo?
Everybody's talking about Canelo's body shots as though it's a done deal. First he's gotta get to that body which is much easier said than done against a much bigger, longer, heavy-handed fighter, and even then- Yarde is a good body puncher himself and hit Kovalev with some hard shots, so it's not like he'll fold to any hard body shot, especially from a middleweight.
If Canelo can land a good three punch combination to Kovalev's balls though he should get the TKO, that's the real blueprint.
They aren't Canelo doesn't have the power or the reach to put down Kov, that jab alone will keep Canelo at bay...
Not when Canelo bangs that body
That jab will be non existent
Kovi fughin winced and pulled his shorts when Yarde bagged him to the body the one time early in the fight
I think Canelo's height might give Kovalev some trouble.
Canelo feels comfortable against taller guys.
From a physiological perspective, Kovalev's body it at a perfect height for Canelo to beat the hell out of it. And, Canelo's head is the perfect height for Kovalev to repeatedly deliver hard jabs with less fatigue. Presents an interesting angle.
I am really looking forward to a Canelo vs Kovalev fight. Great fight!!! Canelo taking on a beast at 175 is wild! I really think this will be bombs away!!!
Seeing how many people think Kovalev beats Alvarez, I think Canelo is going to THIRST a fight with Kovalev. The ground for this one is absolutely fertile. Perfect set up for Canelo.
Kovalev's both much larger and more powerful than Canelo, while Canelo has much better upper-body movement and is a better counter-puncher. Their hand speeds are comparable. If Canelo works the body early, he could break Kovalev down in the mid/late rounds, especially since Kovalev's stamina isn't great. The thing is, Canelo doesn't have an amazing gas tank either, so he'll have to worry about body work from Kovalev, who unlike him, won't have to get up close to get it done. Canelo has elite upper-body movement, but this isn't GGG or Jacobs. Kovalev's jab just slept Yarde, who's much larger than Canelo. Kovalev is stronger, faster and has a higher output than GGG, who's right hands made Canelo look like he was walking in wet cement during their rematch. I see some users saying that Canelo will destroy Kovalev, but I'm not so sure of that. I'm not saying that Canelo will definitely lose, but weight divisions exist for a reason. I could be wrong, but I think Kovalev beats Canelo.
I would say kovalev is too big and strong, but even though he did good things in this fight, you can see hes aging, and has weakness to body, canelo would pound that body. And some guys act like canelo is small, but hes a big middleweight. I bet Kov only has 15 lb weight diff on fight nihgt (that is a lot, but not as much as some people would make it seem)
Canelo beats him. The commentary crew were not mentioning at all how obvious it was that Kovalev began to labor early in the fight. It was all over Kov's face. The stamina is gone and that body is susceptible to body shots. Canelo is picking the perfect time to beat Kovalev....
It really struck me that it appeared that Kovalev was gassing as early as the third round. His expression was that of a guy who was working hard and having to expend more energy than he wanted to. Yarde started looking like that too, almost around the same time as Kovalev. The fight was probably pretty intense but I was kind of surprised at the appearance of Kovalev looking gassed that early. I would have expected he'd fade a bit later ...maybe starting in the 6th, 7th or 8th round...but in the 3rd or 4rth round?! Jeez! ....I'm not sure, but I wonder if that has anything to do with his lifestyle habits. We always hear how much he likes to drink. Remember towards the end of DeLahoya's career he was really into drinking and snorting coke...and he'd get fat between fights. It was at that time when Oscar would begin to fade around the middle of his fights. Those substance are very detrimental to athletes endurance and durability.
