It’s a massive if but if Yarde beats Kovalev, would you consider a huge upset?
Secondly for fellow Brits or boxing historians, how highly would you rank it in terms of a British fighter winning on the road?
If Yarde wins that is a huge upset, and it will be massive vindication for Yarde and Tunde
Also, for Kovalev, I don't know where he could go from there, he was saying in an interview with Bunce, he reckons he's got about 5 fights left in him... but if he loses to Yarde, I wonder if that would be game over?
Yeah Tunde will be unbearable if he pulls it off...
I agree though, they’ve always been hell bent on going the WBO route instead of the traditional British, Commonwealth, European etc route. They’ve even turned down considerable step a side money, so whether it’s confidence or delusion, they obviously fancy Yarde to pull this off.
If Kovalev loses it’s a long, long road back. Unless he has has rematch clause he’ll likely retire. In saying that I’m picking Kovalev to win decisively.
He hasn’t beaten a decent domestic level fighter so it should be considered a monster upset! For what it’s worth I think Kovalev beats Yarde comfortably.
It would just tell me Kovalev is done. Yarde isn't anything impressive, as far as talent goes. Kovalev has personal baggage, got knocked out a couple fights ago. There's a lot of questions around him. Beating Yarde might not answer any questions but losing to him sure would.
Upset? Yes! Shocker? Hell No! Yarde does something great that is Kovalev weakness and that is he goes to the body

IMO Yarde can win this 100%, just not sure how well he himself will take Kovalev Power especially early in their fight since we never really seen his chin tested vs a big puncher even close to Kovalev. Yes Yarde is very slick but that was mostly against sh#t competition. If he gets hit with Kovalev Power especially early and he takes it well and is able to get inside and get to his body then yes he can win
The issue is, will he be allowed to work on the inside and go to the body without Ref Warnings disrupting it because Kovalev love to complain to the Ref when he gets hit to the body claiming punches are low when they're not low
It is plans for Canelo vs Kovalev and it will be things done to assure that. Reminds me of when Oscar De La Hoya and Bernard Hopkins agreed to fight and Oscar took a fight vs Felix Sturm in which Sturm was blatantly robbed of that fight to assure that De La Hoya vs B-Hop goes on
Yarde can;t fight a pressure style vs Kovalev, he has no headmovement. The only way this guy wins, is by catching Kovalev with a left hook and not allowing him to recover. All he has is that strength/power.
He has an opportunity here to catch Kovalev early though, because Kovalev seems well on his way out with the talk of “I’m old”, “five more fights”.

It will be an upset but for the good of boxing Yarde should get absolutely smashed.
Let's be serious, Yarde's opponents thus far have been abysmal and he should be nowhere near a world title shot. It's doubtful any of his opponents are of British title level, let alone world title standard so why he is anywhere near a title at this level is a mystery.
If Kovalev loses you may as well give Hosea Burton a shot at Bivol or Gvozdyk/Beterbiev because he's probably a better fighter than all of Yarde's opponents thus far.
Been saying this for ages now.
Yarde and his team wanted absolutely nothing to with Burton yet here he is Kovalev’s backyard.
I’d consider it one of the biggest shocks by a British fighter.
I mean he’d knock me out.
But up until a year ago Yarde’s fights were essentially like those have a fight for bucket of whiskey deals they’d have in Thailand. You could climb in 10 pints deep and get murdered by a professional Muay Thai fighter
I’ve seen Yarde fight at least 10 times now. Absolutely no idea how good he is.
Massive upset, one of the biggest for any uk fighter. Kovalev may not be in his prime but hes still a top class operator
yarde hasnt competed at a high level , only has an handful of amateur fights, doesnt spar and is fighting in Russia
Odds are stacked well and truly against him
Yarde SHOULD be 2 to 3 fights away from facing Kovalev. He should have faced a couple of B guys before this bout but....it's show up and show out time so we will see what level he is actually at.

Yes I would. The odds are way too close in my opinion. Yarde never beat anybody good while Kovalev has a career full of KOs over champions and top contenders. Kovalev should be at least a 4 to 1 favorite to win in my opinion.
Looking at the odds for the fight, no not massive
The odds are crazy IMO, I mean Yarde has never shown anything to suggest he is at this level, add to the fact he’s traveling to Kovalev’s home country.
I don't think it would be THAT big of an upset. Why? Kovalev is aging and just two fights ago got stopped badly by Alvarez when he hit the floor three times. Sure he rebounded in the rematch, but just don't know at this stage of his career what he has left.
Massive props for Yarde if he's able to go on the road and pull this off though, especially with the type of competition he has faced thus far.
