Senator Manny Pacquiao has been installed the strongest candidate for the "Fighter of the Decade" for his comparatively better activity, longevity and more importantly ring resume during the ten year period (2010-2019) despite his advancing age.
In fact, in the popular Ring Magazine, most boxing netizens including from Europe have expressed their preference and agreement of the Filipino fighting legislator and legend as the back to back FOTD awardee over a field that included his retired archrival Floyd Mayweather Jr., and another retired unbeaten American fighter Andre Ward, among others.
Pacquiao with his six world division title run and three Fighter of the Year awards in 2006, 2008 and 2009 was the hands down best fighter or the previous decade as declared by the Boxing Writers Association of America. He bested Mayweather who had his own title runs in five weight classes but retired in 2007 only to return belatedly in 2009.
Significantly, Pacquiao is also in the running for the Fighter of the Year award for 2019 especially with his stirring victory over erstwhile undefeated American Keith One Time Thurman for the WBA welterweight super title which will boost his FOTD bid.
But it seems some segments of the American boxing media are out to frustrate Manny's bid for another FOTY and FOTD awards.
In his recent Monday Mailbag column where my letter about Pacquiao's strong bid for FOTY and FOTD awards was published and sparked a lively debate among netizens mostly in favor of Manny, Ring Magazine editor in chief Douglass Fischer while acknowledging Pacquiao's worth, wrote that most BWAA members are apt to vote either Floyd or Ward.
Then from out of the blue, the Boxrec.com, a US boxing monitoring, evaluating and rating firm, came out with its greatest boxers ever list that has Floyd Mayweather, Jr. clearly on top miles away from the likes of Pacquiao who came second, Carlos Monzon, third and would you believe Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson who ranked only fourth and sixth, respectively!
What is more questionable is the fact that Pacquiao is the only active fighter in the list!
It is very obliviously an attempt, ill-thought as it was, to elevate the already retired Floyd at the expense of the still active Manny.
The only immediate objective of these moves coming from some segment of the US media is to condition the minds especially of the American boxing public that Floyd is more superior to Manny thereby making it more palatable for the BWAA to name Floyd as the Fighter of the Decade over Pacquiao despite Manny's overall better performance this decade.
But some people also view this as the resurrection of the rivalry between the two which could lead to the long sought after Floyd vs Manny 2 next year.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

No wonder if Floyd gets the award this time.
of course they don’t mean much if you’re a pacquiao fan. You can’t disregard losses and that’s why I like BoxRec they don’t care how popular you are a Loss is a loss. I could see 1or2 losses but he lost 4 times.
Boxrec has Carlos Monzon as p4p the number 3 best fighter of all time.
Lol
you cant win the race if you didnt finish it. it doesnt matter how great you looked at the beginning if you didnt finish the race and that's the case with floyd here. 5 years off, and he's suppose to win FOTD? 5 years off!?
Well this is what I mean, depends how much emphasis they place on who you beat over the 10 yr period or how active and popular you are, realistically its hype vs ring accomplishments during the decade.
Ive never read what the judges want in this award.
Neither Pac or Floyd is going to win it.
Stop with the race card .
Pac is not going to win it because he has too many losses this decade. And he was KO'd.
Canelo deserves it. Even if I'm not a huge fan of him. Even if I thought he lost the first fight with GGG.

- -FOD a beauty queen award.
TUE 50-0 last 3 fights vs Giggles Berto and two debutantes. Unless BWAA gone full soft...allowing for their portly propensities, TUE outta the running. Prob Canelo...
how does someone who retired in 2015 is suppose to win fighter of the decade??? you brought up manny's losses as to why you feel he shouldnt win FOTD yet floyd who has been inactive for 4-5 years now is suppose to win? wtf is this??? it's called "fighter of the decade" for a reason. not fighter of a half decade.
floyd is the media and vegas baby..his 50 - 0 had and still is being glorified beyond its true worth...
Thats very true Floyd has been retired for awhile, but then again his 10yr resume trumps everybody else and he did it in a much shorter time which only elevates it more, wins over Canelo and Manny along with his other victims have got to weigh a lot.
Its down to how they judge, from hype and popularity or ring resume.

Floyd has been inactive too long to win, Canelo's issue is being popped for PED's Manny believe it or not is in the running due to activity and being the oldest to win WW belt at 40 and he did it fighting a prime fighter. A Dark horse is Deontay Wilder thou.

If its on who you beat Floyd will win easy because he beat the only two guys next in line, if its popularity and all the hype outside of the ring then Manny or Canelo, but in all honesty Floyd has the best last 10yr resume and as I said he beat both Manny and Canelo,,,, Floyd will win it and he earned it in the ring.
Either canelo or manny.
No one else matters.
this right here. but im thinking canelo will take it. if manny would have knocked thurman or broner out then it would be game over.
of course they don’t mean much if you’re a pacquiao fan. You can’t disregard losses and that’s why I like BoxRec they don’t care how popular you are a Loss is a loss. I could see 1or2 losses but he lost 4 times.
out of those 4 losses, only the marquez ko sticks out. yes, an L is an L, but you know it, i know it, that the other loss such as to bradley was a fluke, horn was a fluke, and floyd?
i think that win for floyd hurted his legacy more so than good with that performance lol. so that brings me back to the marquez ko which is the only one that sticks out.
which is what people talk about when trying to diss pac. they dont bring up the floyd win. they bring up the marquez ko. ! but look at what pac has done after the ko. i rest my case.

every ATG's have losses... so are you saying that they arent great fighters anymore? and you're trying to twist what i said. i even explained it after but you choose to bold one part only. i said losses dont mean much if you consider what the fighters accomplished after that.
losses dont really mean much if you consider what he's done after those losses. pac won fighter of the decade the first time, and he had losses and 2 draws during that time frame!! but he won because of what he did after those losses!

Yeah, it's a comedy if floyd will win the award. I will agree if they award to floyd the FIGHTER OF THE HALF DECADE. LMAO.
these people is weird azz hell lol.. floyd should win FOTD when he's been out since 2015 lol. that's like me competing in a 5000 meter run race but only did 800 meter and is claiming that i should win.

Pacquiao is a great fighter and a legend but I don’t see how he wins it over Floyd. I’m a FM fan so I’m biased. He has four losses in the last decade including one brutal KO.
Floyd has wins over Maidana Canelo Cotto Mosley Pacquiao and a perfect 9-0 also successfully defended the wbc 147 and 154 titles in one night something that hasn’t been done since Leonard fought Lalonde. If Floyd doesn’t win it Pacquiao or Ward will probably win it

I agree Mannys opponents over the decade dont add up to Floyds , but its a popularity contest so Manny has a big chance.
