You see guys like Pac, Canelo, Floyd, the bigger draws that make money. Floyd was smart enough to see this. He picked his own fights that would help him with a edge. He makes the most money and keeps most of it.
They have promoters with other things in mind. They sometimes rob fighters because the fighter is talking retirement. So they want to pass the belt on to their next star in the stable with a BS decision win. Kind of like Bradley and Pac. I watched PBC try and pull it off with Pac and Thurman with those judges and highlights that showed no knockdown or body shot.
Now we see whats happening to Canelo. These guys will do what makes them the most money. I think we're in a day and age where we dont need promoters for big names. So why do they sign up with them for long contracts?
Boxers need someone to put up the money for their fights. Also do all the leg work when it comes to securing venues, dealing with the stationing bodies, and athletic commissions.
without a great promoter in Top Rank developing Floyds career, he would be the most "talented" car detailer in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Promoters invest time, money, and matchmaking expertise in developing the fighters talents, as well as their public exposure.
Sure, there comes a time when the fighter develops enough of a profile that a true "promoter" is no longer needed, but really only a handful of fighters ever reach that status........

Canelo pretty much is GBP. He takes 90% of the net revenue. He has all the leverage. It’s very similar to when Floy flight for GBP and would pay them 2 mil per event to state them
