This is one of the best match ups in boxing, a super fight but only for us hardcores
Crawford is barely known and Spence is just starting to get noticed, these guys are already 30 years old
They were both under marketed, They don't have the name yet.
Look with Wilder vs Tyson Fury, that was a HUGE heavyweight fight between the two best undefeated guys and it barely did what 150 to 250k buys or something?
You have to push these guys to the masses, right now only Spence is being pushed to the masses and so far there is no way Crawford deserves a 50 50 with Spence. if Spence does 350k on his next PPV its gonna have to be 60 40 for Spence
Crawfords PPVs are embarrassingly low, what did his Postol PPV do like 25k buys or something?
This is the sad part right now, and this why the sport needs Dana White he can really hype up fighters like crazy he can take a scrub off the street and make the mainstream think he is the next Tyson lol
The most entertaining way to build two great fighters of a generation is to get them to fight a trilogy.
Leonard Duran 2 was bigger than the first one.
Agree. Great fight. But not a great PPV sellable fight to casuals, where the money is, quite yet. And thats what BOTH sides want is that sexy casual fan PPV money hence why the fight ain't happening & isn't gonna happen til it can do a nice PPV number that both sides see as a W.
Spence Jr is on his way to that PPV money without Crawford, and folks need to understand that
Zero chance Arum goes for it because he will demand a joint PPV. 60/40 maybe 65/35 is fair to me if Spence wins out, but Arum is desperate to keep ESPN involved.
Terence Crawford is not a PPV fighter; blame it on whomever or whatever you want, the guy can't return a profitable PPV event, and Bob Arum has very little that he can do to turn Crawford into a profitable PPV fighter.
Errol Spence Jr is on his way to PPV stardom; with the Mikey Garcia fight making money, the coming Porter fight likely making money, the Pacquiao PPV after that, and Danny Garcia still being a name fighter at the weight (with Keith Thurman being viable, along with the avenue to move up in weight for big fights at 154lbs and 160lbs), Spence-TBA is basically a profitable PPV if he sweeps the next 3.
If Bob Arum continues to insist on joint PPV and 60/40 (when his fighter is a money-loser on PPV), then the fight likely goes the way of Bowe-Lewis.
Spence stands as the unified WBC/WBA/IBF 147lb champion, moves up to fight the likely unified WBC/WBA/IBF 154lb champion, and potentially rule there until DAZN makes an offer he can't refuse, or Alvarez possibly fights out the DAZN deal and returns to PPV (Spence Jr is 29, and Alvarez just turned 29; at the end of Alvarez's deal, both will at worse be 32 years old, older but nowhere near done fighters).
Terence Crawford is almost 32 right now, with nothing good on the horizon right now otherwise, lol.
Arum can play chicken if he wants
It won’t do big numbers because there’s no Mexican fighter involved. It’s a great fight and I hope it happens though.
This is the unspoken truth about Boxing. Boxing has deep roots in Mexican culture and there is a huge boxing circuit in Mexico where the sport is regularly on TV and being talked about on sports shows. Mexicans buy PPV'S and throw carne asada parties on fight nights.
This is the Harsh Reality! I like both fighters actually but if they was to do it right now, that fight would FLOP HARD and people would lose money. I think Spence Jr does have the right path which is basically to Unify His Side then go for Crawford
Boxing FANS have a Immaturity Issue! By that I mean that fans are too caught up into labeling fighters Ducks, Afraid or whatever when I don't think that is the case at all with any of these guys. Things have to make Sense and Cents to do a fight and rightfully so since it is a dangerous sport. I do feel like Spence Jr vs Crawford should happen IF they're the last 2 Standing after having fought all of these guys and I think that is both of their mentalities but the way things are set up at the moment, only Spence Jr will be able to do that
I've been posting forum repeatedly that PBC should indeed send guys over because what is does is that it helps build up their potential match up. They sent Crawford both John Molina and Felix Diaz before at 140. I see no reason why Danny Garcia, Ugas or Lipinets can't go over for a 1 Off and fight Crawford for now.
HOWEVER, it can't be just PBC sending guys over and nothing coming back to them. People have to send over fighters to them too if they're open to it. If I send you Wilder to fight Fury for the rematch, wouldn't it be only right and FAIR to send over Crawford to PBC to do the Spence Jr fight? It should be more BARTERING in boxing, that is not to treat fighters like Property or anything like that, of course they would have to agree to do it
Spence Jr is on the right path and thanks to Fox he is building his Profile RAPIDLY. Crawford however seems to be a bit STUCK and no I don't blame Arum I blame HIM, he is not very approachable at all when it comes to Boxing Media and Fans. You seen that after the Ramirez vs Mo Hooker fighter the difference and the reason why Spence Jr Popularity is trending upward while Crawford is trending DOWN
Maybe.
Terence Crawford just lost money on his second attempt at PPV. With Pacquiao on the other side, I don't see much that Top Rank can do with what they have left to try and make Crawford bigger.
Errol Spence Jr just had a PPV with Mikey Garcia that made money, is set for a PPV against Shawn Porter that should also make money, has another possible moneymaker with Danny Garcia, and might be on the cusp of a 1m PPV buys event with Manny Pacquiao for the WBC/WBA/IBF 147lb titles (if the way everything is tracking holds).
Beyond that, Bob Arum is demanding 50% and joint production on Crawford's behalf.
In what world is 50% of a joint-production fight with Top Rank going to out-value even Spence-TBA, if Spence simply handles his business? Especially if Top Rank chooses to no longer lose money with Crawford on PPV and simply keeps him on ESPN/ESPN+?
Spence wins out (Porter, Pacquiao, Danny/mandatory) making money the whole way, and Spence-Crawford stands as a 70/30 Spence split on FOX PPV.
Think Arum goes for it?

I agree. The fight won't do good numbers. At least enough to justify two networks coming together to do a co-broadcast.
Simply put, Bob Arum hasn't done a good job promoting Crawford. He has the ESPN deal but you rarely see Crawford on any shows doing interviews. With Fury he was on every show on ESPN and had an over the top promotion for his last fight.
I think Crawford realizes he made a mistake resigning with Top Rank. It's not PBC's job to promote Crawford.
Well crawford doesn't like to talk, so he doesn't do many talk shows he has the personality of a snail. Tyson Fury on the other hand is a charismatic loud talker so it doesn't take much to get him on talk shows.
The fight will do around 400-500k which is a major success for errol and bud.
If both guys were better know it should do at least 1.5 million buys. I hope the fight does well it would be great for boxing, but people at my work have no clue who either guy is. Especially Crawford, Crawford for some odd reason can barely draw flys on tv or ppv. SPence is clearly the A side here, he has the numbers to back it up. Where Crawfords ppvs were so low top rank never bothered talking about it.
The top 3 fights in the sport.
Spence vs Crawford
Joshua vs Wilder
Lomachenko vs Garcia
Disregard Spence vs Pacquiao if you want.
For the old unified WBC/WBA/IBF titles, fading star versus rising star, old lion vs young lion, tangential ties to still the biggest name in the sport (Floyd Mayweather; Spence earnestly starting to have his name bubble with the gym stories of his work with Floyd and the stories of how he basically whooped on everyone, against Pacquiao's near career-long arc of trying to have his story linked with Floyd's), in a real possible "passing of the torch moment" not at all that different from when Floyd beat Oscar to take over.
Spence-Crawford is great for hardcore fans to talk about here, but folks are ignoring perspective and I'll give you an example why:
If the fight happens, and plays out the way most knowledgeable folks can imagine (similar skills between the two fighters, but Terence Crawford is basically maxed out at 147lbs, while Errol Spence Jr has the frame to eventually max out as a small 160lbs. Good/great big man versus good little man) and we see another Spence-Mikey performance (good fight to start, Spence Jr makes his adjustments to take over, Spence Jr starts to snowball on Crawford, with Crawford using his craft to make it through the championship rounds), folks will immediately look back at Crawford and his resume, see that he'd fought Jeff Horn, a tough but one-legged gimp Benevidez, and friggin Amir Khan, and then the casual sports world will immediately get going with their questions about why Crawford was so highly rated at 147lbs to begin with.
Because it equals more money in the end? Obviously the goal is a monopoly though.
Maybe.

Why the **** would PBC boost Terence Crawford with their fighters, only to then turn around and give Crawford half the pot and Top Rank half the show? Lol.
No, you leave Crawford right where he's at, and you build up the welterweights with you and create a star.
Because it equals more money in the end? Obviously the goal is a monopoly though.
Whether it makes alot of money or not is meaningless to me. Either way my checking account doesnt receive a deposit. I want to see the best fight the best for the sake of my entertainment and nothing more. Too much cheerleading and living vicariously through promoters/managers in the global boxing fanbase. Worry about your own money.
On the money. This paradigm shift to tribalistic promotion warfare/cheerleading (among grown adults in many cases--not 14 year olds, for which it would at least be permissable as something to be outgrown) is so cringy it aches. What is this, ****ing WWF? Jesus christ lol
"And then, and then Errul Spinss broke a chair over his head and screamed "I'M THE A SIDE IN THIS PIECE! And that's when I came in my pants!"
well Arum was playing it safe with marketing Crawford, he matched him up with Khan, a low risk fight that had the high potential of a highlight reel KO to entice the casuals. Crawford failed miserably with his inability to KO glass chin Khan but instead gave Khan an excuse to quit with the low blow. I bet Arum was furious with the poor outcome, he overpaid Khan cuz he banked on the highlight reel KO.
I still have fun contemplating the look on Arum's face in the moment. He had to be on the verge of an aneurysm.
