Says he had a bad performance because of personal problems with the family with the combination of making weight.
Says hes gonna try to sort out his personal problems first or hes not gonna fight.
Says hes gonna beat the hell out of Commey and his last fight he wasn't their mentally. Says only person that can beat him is him. He lost his excitement last fight and joy of fighting. But says hes not gonna take the fight until everything gets sorted out.
If I'm Teofimo's adviser, I tell him to quit the business now. Quit. Don't stay in there. Because if he stays in there, one of the following happens.
- It all comes to a head and he
kills himself or someone else, like with Edwin Valero,
dies from the ring like Dadashev or ends up seriously injured for life like Adonis Stevenson or Magomed Abdusalomov,
ends up dead somewhere outside the ring like Vernon Forrest or Arturo Gatti, or
in jail like Meldrick Taylor
- He makes too much money and it makes the personal issues worse to where he never really recovers, like Chris Eubank Sr.
- He gets hooked on drugs and his career spirals to a failure like Nigel Benn
- He reaches a peak of success, loses a signature fight, then retires in disgrace, like Hamed or Michael Spinks where they could have had a much longer run
He's acting like this now just imagine how he will react when he actually loses a fight? Or get's knocked out? Or when he has real personal problems. He about to phuking retire because mommy mad and won't cut the crust off my sandwich no more? He using that as the scapegoat for why he looked bad in his first little step up fight.
I'm not gonna criticize him for whatever decisions he has to make. I can respect that he may be dealing with some personal issues. Everybody goes through shyt, and as men we have to try to overcome that shyt and better ourselves.
But it is pretty lame to hear this considering the level of 'ego' and 'confidence' he and his father shoved down everyone's throats. It is not a good look for him to come out with this publicly considering he just struggled with someone he was suppose to dominate. It makes you wonder how much of it's personal, and how much of it is him and his team realizing that they might not be living up to the hype.
Eh. I mean I get it, but I think it easily could be a youthful thing or a momentarily think cuz he just got married, his fam is throwing him shade over it, he just had a bad performance + everyone online seems to be saying he ain't sh^t now. I mean I can see how that could get a guy all into his feelings & f#ck him up mentally for a period of time.
I'm cool with a guy showing weakness here & there or when its understandable & seeing it as a one off or anomaly more than a sign of it being a chronic issue. And right now since this is really the first crack in the armor I gotta give Teofimo the benefit of the doubt.
your are also describing what i mean,
look how many people hated floyd and how much they talked about him, it never really fazed him, he was strong enough, that's a champion elite fighter mentality.
With teo i agree what your saying and concur with your diagnose,
i think a someone with the right mind for the top wouldn't falter like he has under these things,Mayweather had a lot of problems but endured, even worse problems then teo, during his career and in childhood, i don't know if you can train this, i don't know if teo will ever achieve what it takes mentally, this is what i mean when i say he's not made for the top of the top mentally, he might be world champion and defeat great fighters and have a good career though, but it's definitely not in his favour,i have a little broner feeling with him, i don't know if he can come back if he ever loses like Broner.
I was like that, always very talented in every sport that i did, but never mentally good enough to make it professional or to the top, when i came to keep training and keeping the focus, not being able to deliver the same performance everytime,i could play everyone of a soccer field 1 weekend the couple next just play bad games,
Natural gifts talent and hard work are important for success, but having good head on your shoulder is so important and what makes the picture complete.
You can see the difference with Teo and Loma very cleary ,the mental aspect, Loma torn his shoulder second round,Didn't Panic, got knocked down kept his composure, hard fight,Linaris hit harder then anybody he face i think, in pain, fight was close, that's when you see what the top is made of,when all is stacked against you, keeping you're cool and prevailing, you have to be mentally very strong for that. You also see that when fighters lose for the first time and get better and learn, other will never be same again
Idk man I have no reason to believe he's making excuses & suddenly knows he can hang. I think he just had a rougher fight than he expected. And that always happens as prospects keep moving up to contenders & contenders keep moving up to be champions.
I think its too early to suggest dude is soft. I think family sh^t is often stuff that makes legit tough mfers soft & for him that might be the issue who knows.
Mainly its too early to make too much of this yet to me.
i don't really think he is soft, what i'm trying to say is i don't know if he has mentally the right head on his shoulders, don't know if he mentally strong enough, like a Mayweather,Lomachenko,Pacquiao,or the top athletes in other sports, most people who make it to pinnacle or mentally very strong and balanced,'m talking about people who also manage to stay there, athletes like Federer in another sport for example,
He is smart and not stubborn those are attributes that play in his favour,he was smart enough and has enough self awareness to realise right now he probably isn't in the best place for what he's supposed to undertake,(Loma and Commey),and he's not too stubborn too admit it to himself, that's why i think it is very good that he's taking a little break, shows he knows himself and can look intelligently from the outside in at himself, that would make you think he has what it takes to be mentally strong enough in the future, he feels too me a little bit like a piece that can fall both ways, time will tell,i do think he home situation isn't making things easier for him, he probably doesn't have the ideal wife if she can't get along with family, although looking at the father and the mother from interviews, they don't seem like the most stable parents either, they seems like those people with a special personality, not easy, so maybe it's not only the wife who's at fault, but if sister and motherland wife don't put his interest if front of their petty fighting, then there both not good for him, we say he it's a dutch saying, pour water with your wine, it means compromise when it's not easy for the greater good.
What is it with men who they fall in love, they choose their girlfriends over family, worked since childhood for a sports career,a good woman brings stability and is supportive, gives you a stable home and you'll perform better, when you in the wrong relationship the woman becomes more important then your career, performances are not at your best anymore, Lopez and Thurman these two don't have very good women i thinks mean Keith don't wanna fight tis year no more spend time with his wife, should be fighting and making money in your prime, your wife should push you to compete, if you look like top athletes like Messi,Eden Hazard and others, their wives don't even like the Limelight,a woman can make or break your career.
And in Teo's case, if you're girl can't get along with your mother and sisters would start to question what kinda girl i brought into my house.
i know how women like her operate
She wants to isolate him,
First remove the mother and sister, keep the father as a friend, when the sister and mother are out of the picture, she'll get rid of the dad too.
Examples of boxers i know good wife and stable home
not a coincidence but P4P 1-2 Crawford and Loma,
both have children, wife's are stay at home types, don't want to be in the attention, and they perform great
First off I thought the near universal trashing of Teofimo after this fight was bs. The guy is a talented cat. Guy had 5 or w/e highlight reel wins previous to that fight. You can't highlight reel your whole mfing career.
That said Teofimo's dad need to punch his b^tch ass in the chest again cuz this is p#ssy sh^t. EVERYONE got mfing problems. No one is walking into the ring with the perfect life going on outside of it. And thats part of the sh^t you gotta deal with. This "I might not fight til mom quits being an ass hole" sh^t is some lil kid sh^t. Tell mom to f#ck off & get to work brother. She'll see whats up eventually. Obviously its always better to have your life as complete as possible, but just like its impossible to be 100% in shape & completely uninjured going into a fight its an impossible thing to accomplish & dude need to grow up & understand that.
You know what i think the real big issue is, he saw that he can't dominate when he moves up in class, and already had a tough fight with Nakatani,Not even Commey or Loma and just maybe he doubt himself now what an in his head he starting to doubt in his abilities and not so sure he can win so that's the real issue he needs time, he doesn't look the most mentally strong person, but i already thought that before, because most people who talked like him at such an early stage without haven proven anything usually are not mentally strong and will break
Bad style matchup? Or his first step up? Nakatani was chosen for a reason, because his camp viewed it as a BETTER style matchup than Abdullaev who Haney is going to fight.
Haney who has been quiet, respectful, and is far more talented than loudmouth millennial Lopez who “literally cannot even”
I agree. If there is one thing TR is known for is "top notch" matchmaking for their young stars. I'm pretty sure TR picked Nakatani to "teach" Teo a lesson, to make him realize that he might not be ready for the top dogs after all.
too hilarious. his wife should be ashamed of this idiot, cannot call him other way. so because she is 26y.o. his mother and sister didnt attend a wedding and dont talk to each other now. bha-ha-ha. what a load of bull..
then he mentions how 2 boxers passed away doing their job. dude why aint you in hockey from the beginning?
"Lopez can beat anyone in the ring impressively. but if Teofimo not happy in the ring, there wont be no fight"
ROFL, speaks about himself in a 3rd person.
Precisely this. And a critical reason why I keep saying not to overhype the fighters before they're sorted. People don't realize how hard it REALLY is to get and stay in the game when you're up and coming.
Floyd had all sorts of personal issues - WAY worse than this dude - that continued for years of his career. It's a credit to him that he didn't let any of that derail his rise.
Exactly. Everyone has shyt going on Floyd is a great example dude had crazy shyt including his pops and trainer going to jail and there are a million other examples from fighters to entertainers who have family problems. And even regular people still go to work despite family issues like death, illness, divorces, etc
If you need everything in your life to be perfect and happy before you go for a run, spar or fight then you need to get out now because that shyt isn't real life and promoters can't sit and wait for your happiness. Real adults have to work whether they are having good day or bad day.
Mom worried that the wife is gonna steal her share of the cash he's making ??
He's a grown azz man, if he chooses to be with a woman, mom needs to stop being a petty MF'er and be a mother to her son instead of shutting him out.
sounds like a way OUT after finally realizing that he is not ready for that next level just yet and it is nothing wrong with that. He is very young, only 21 about to turn 22 in a couple of days so WTF is the Rush?
Shakur Stevenson is ready, Teofimo Lopez is NOT!

IDK. Seems pretty reasonable to me. He's aware his head wasn't right and he has to sort some chit out. 'Growing pains', if you will.
A lot of us feel that he and his Pops talk too much in general, but I'd still like to see him at his best against Commey and potentially Loma. I definitely hope he doesn't fight again and talk excuses. I suppose it's possible that he's being "exposed" sort to speak, and he'll never look good against elite competition.
The more together he is, the better he is for boxing...so I hope he sorts it all out and learns to deal with these adversities.
Lopez is going through the growing pains of becoming an adult. I believe he HAS to get his personal life together if he wants to have a chance at reaching the next level. He just can't compartmentalize his life either because his parents currently have an impact on his professional life. If he doesn't want his boxing career to end in embarrassing and disastrous fashion, he needs to clean up his personal life or he has to start building a new team in order to start taking power away from his parents.
He's bringing a different demeanour than he was a few fights back. Maybe him and his dad have fought twice about how ready there are for the Commey's and the Loma's.
Dude probably mommas boy and come from a home where she pampered him, now when she see him she dont show him the same kind of love maybe not even speaking which got him ****ed up. Plus he has to side with his wife over his mother. Doubt it has anything to do with fighting or being scared of Commey or Loma.
