From Keith Idec
"Main Events, Kovalev's promoter, & Golden Boy still are negotiating for a 9/14 fight. Golden has increased its initial offer twice, but they're still apart on the money. If they come 2 an agreement, Yarde will be paid a lot of money to step aside 4 fight that was announced today."
Yeah, and looking back...
Is Kovalev equivalent to Lalonde? Kovalev is proven, elite, multiple-time, LHW Champ. Kovalev is currently considered/ranked Top 3 in the world by Boxing media (the TBRB).
Is Canelo asking for a Catchweight? SRL weighed in at 165 lbs and Lalonde at 167 lbs. Canelo is willing to fight Kovalev at the LHW limit, 175 lbs, no catchweight.
What's really going on here is that Canelo, and/or DAZN (most likely), are looking for the BIG fights. They're looking for matchups against opponents with cachet; Name-Value is important to them. So there is maneuvering, they are trying to position their fighter for $ucce$$... it is a form of "Cherry Picking," yeah... but it's not about a fighter being "scared" or a "coward," or blah blah blah. And it ain't Lalonde, it's fu&ken Sergey Kovalev at LHW.
Oh and BTW, Canelo (and Oscar) has said that he would fight Andre Ward (at 168 or 175) when asked about it in the build-up to Daniel Jacobs fight (MW).
Is Andre Ward a "coward" for retiring early? For not coming back?
(rhetorical question -- the answer is "No")
Fight Kovalev with NO weight restrictions outside of those prescribed for every other fight Kovalev would have with legitimate lhw contenders and Canelo/Kovalev would have my enthusiastic support. But no....
It was because Lalonde was a paper champion who couldn't fight a lick. It didn't matter how much larger he was than Leonard. He couldn't fight; Which was why Leonard cherrypicked him in the first place. The same way that Canelo is cherrypicking Kovalev who has two knockout losses on his record.
Both Leonard and Canelo perceived their naturally larger opponents as limited, low risk and safe. Why don't Canelo call Andre Ward out of retirement if he wants to fight a Light heavyweight then? He won't because he knows he'll get his ass kicked :lol1:

Duva is calling out Gomez and Oscar. Part of me thinks this isn’t the usual PR.... between not pressing for a catch weight and everything else... wonder if they’re wanting that third fight or just have a bad feeling about fighting Kovalev, and are going through the motions of trying to make the fight to appease Canelo.
lara was contracted to fight ishe smith but canelo demanded the fight and got it done still... this is one of the reasons canelos resume is full of names instead of excuses...
We will see I guess...'names' is relative btw...when/where/how you catch someone and what you do to them is important too imo...though if Canelo really fought Kov at 175 with no weight restrictions...and even went 12 in a competitive fight...I would give him a lot of credit for that.
I don't see him having no restrictions on Kov though...and to me this offer seems to be an attempt to make it seem like they were really challenging Kov on somewhat fair terms and were wanting the fight...when in reality they knew that Kov was already tied up with Yarde and it was too late to really make that fight.
Canelo was a freaking middleweight! He could not even make 154 (let alone 152) without affecting his performance. All this BS about Canelo challenging himself is in reality, a kid growing into his body but still squeezing down into weight classes he doesn’t belong for as long as he can.
1 lb above on a non title fight, again did it affect laras performance ?
if your against those cws no problem, your opinion is just as valid, cant really argue there, to me he did not affect lara , angulo or kirkland... he made 154 back when a title was on the line...
no titles involved, did the 1 lb affected laras performance ?
by the way lara had many more fights above 154 than canelo back then... he had no issue with the weight...

At a princess weight. The absolute optimum weight for princess Saul.

Hey if I offer Wilder a fight right now on fair terms...I hope you guys praise my toughness too
Oh nevermind Wilder is already tied up...it's impossible for him to take my offer...

- -Kov bigger/stronger and you dumber/dumberest.Size don't mean shit. Just take Ray Leonard for example; He jumped from 147 to 175 to challenge and defeat the much larger and stronger Donny Lalonde by way of knockout.
Leonard successfully cherrypicked Lalonde because he knew he couldn't fight. The man's record was padded with top tomato cans and bums of the division. In other words, Sugar Ray saw something in Lalonde that he could exploit.
It's the very same thing that Canelo is doing. He is taking the path of least resistance in cherrypicking the very shopworn, vulnerable and exposed 2x KO victim Sergei Kovalev as opposed to Gennady Golovkin.

So moving up in weight to fit a bigger younger fighter by 2 weight classes than ggg, a former p4p top 5, is considered ducking ggg.... Ggg who never moved up or fought anyone p4p ever except Canelo..... Great logic there.

Wilder is ducking you. Plain and simple.
It's okay though man. He ducked me too.
Canelo is a coward. He is only taking this fight because he believes Sergei is now shopworn and past his physical prime.
Unfortunately, he doesn't feels the same way about Golovkin. He knows Gennady has a lot left in the tank at this point and could still potentially whup his ass; Which is why he is ducking him.
The Bitch ass coward!
