🎯 Anthony Joshua utilising a few specific methods during training today as he prepares for the Andy Ruiz Jr rematch later this year. pic.twitter.com/bbvwPgEXfc
But I see what they're doing working on his back foot game you not going to develop that by November
He's now going to need that for the rest of his career. Ruiz showed that if you can force him back then he's very beatable.
Ruiz is better in all departments apart from maybe power.
Watching Joshua do stuff like this confirms how limited and inexperienced he actually is as a pro.
Its embarrassing to be honest.
I told y'all before...
Working on the backfoot isn't fixing the right problem. It's good, but it won't make a difference against a fighter like Ruiz.
Joshua has to learn to generate power at ANY range, not just full range. He also has to learn how to anticipate counters because he was eating them all night long. He never switched the gameplan at all.
If Lennox Lewis didn't dislike the guy so much he would make AJ a straight killer.
the way you post one would think you trained multiple world champions
but we all know ur just an armchair wannabe
If Anthony Joshua has only ability which I don't see in any other heavyweight today? It is that he seems to have this attitude of a school kid 'Who really wants to achieve a A*' Joshua may not be the most naturally gifted fighter in terms of creativity, and just spatial awareness/boxing skill. But he is very diligent in training, and willing to put his body and mind through everything in order to win 'He has a decent will power and willingness to put himself in certain situations'
He will improve for the next fight, but is that going to be enough? That is the question. Since he was beaten by Ruiz Junior, he has been preparing and plotting his vengeance.
I just don’t see AJ being much different in the rematch, win or lose.
It’s taken 11+ years to develop his very basic style. Is he supposed to become a skilled boxer in the next few months? Not happening.
He is what he is. I still think he has the tools to beat guys like Ruiz on his day, but it’ll be down to what he already has. Things can be tweaked but he isn’t really going to get a great deal better, especially not by the end of this year. He hasn’t got the natural ability or coordination to suddenly add new sides to his game and take it to new levels.
Though it's my first time seeing that drill, I can tell it's to help him mind his range and watch for counters, which is something he struggled with in the first fight. The coach is swiping at the range for which that opponent (standing bag) could counter. In other words, the opponent can punch that far when standing where the bag is. So, AJ not only becomes mindful of the opponent's striking range, but it gets him used to counters flying at him so he's going to be less inclined to flinch or waste movement.
What he's going there is usually done with mitts but I think they're doing this variation to freshen things up. That's how it seems to me anyhow.
Thanks bruz.
Really clarified it for me.
RedFoxx you know your stuff can you help me out with the above post.

Exactly. I was illustrating a point that these drills aren't the two dimensional things you're making them out to be, just like road work isn't just moving forward.
See what I'm saying now?
Right, I got you now, thanks for clarifying. We can assume he's doing all that other good stuff aswell. In these video AJ's just drilling some things, and we shouldn't read too much into it.

What's he doing in the second, is he learning to keep his hands up after he throws a punch or trying to get out of range asoon as he throws his punch.
He looks like he is pushing his punch to me but can someone help me out here.
What is this exercise meant for??
I'm surprised that you would say that about roadwork. Roadwork is not just running forwards, it's anything but that. Running is running, but roadwork is something more, and ought to involve lots of variety in movement. And good bagwork likewise is creative, inventive. Like Saunders mocks Eubank for millions of uppercuts on the bags, when it doesn't really mean anything in the ring, similar principle.
Have always said that AJ is basic, carries too much muscle, etc., so I'm not just kicking a man when he's down. I want him to do well in the rematch and I don't like what I'm seeing, that's all.
Tarver's been quite vocal about it all, check out his Twitter

I don't even give a **** about what Josh is doing. If he's fully fit, can come in at 235-240lbs and fight his normal fight - he'll beat any version of Ruiz 7 days a week and on a Sunday. He just needs to fight his normal fight and use his jab.
Agreed.
230-240 is his fighting weight where he's light on his feet and his stamina is better. He has been coming in too heavy since the Klitschko fight.
Ruiz landed a good temple shot last time and followed it up with body shots which took the steam out of AJ. That won't be happening again.
And, road work is just running straight forward. Speed bag work is back fisting.
He's not sparring there.
Since AJ lost, everyone has him under a microscope and they think they can point out everything wrong about him. Let's not forget he dropped Ruiz and was close to winning but he made the simple mistake of trying too hard to finish. Had he shown slightly more discipline we wouldn't be talking about any of this.

What AJ needs you can’t teach. You don’t get grit and the ability to take a punch can’t be trained into you.
I’ve been saying it since he fought Wlad. As a matter of fact, when Wlad hurt AJ he should have went all out for the ko he probably would have gotten it
Great point because it's true, vitali told him to play it cool and be safe lol he regrets that decision

He's going backward in a straight line. He moves his head without his hands. His punches don't have full extension. The whole thing looks r3tarded. Well, if it works it works, I suppose

What are you talking about, trolling??
The treadmill thing is clever for working off the back foot. I'm not sure what is confusing people here...

I was referring to you criticizing AJ's other regimines with similarities to Fury ,you posted Joshua did something before this to dodge shots and its no different then the foam bands Davision uses and many.
Put money on the over ,most likely Joshua is going to really do a number on Ruiz when he wears him down..How are you being conned ?
Even in my prime I had to make my training mechanics to what was out there like creating a ab machine with duck tape/ free weights ( it actually is a selling machine now...the AB roller) and such, and that's yester year...Marciano had to create his own methods like Louis...as long as its doing the job it works, Im telling you AJ is a favorite for a reason and until he loses again well...…
99% of the people on here wouldnt make it past 15 minutes of this guys training regimine,i think right now I could last 35 minutes starting at mid point on AJ's time???/ MAYBE.
Feel like being trolled, maybe conned, because these videos look so mechanical
Your last point is irrelevant as most people couldn't last 15mins of Ruiz's training regimen either
RE. Your first point. I don't really follow. But I'd say there seems to be notable differences in training-styles between Fury and AJ. If you watch Ben and Fury moving around, it is fluid and almost graceful, for the fat man that Fury is. If you watch AJ's training vids, on the other hand, there has always been a robotic feel to proceedings. Like in the slip-drill video from last week, you can almost hear AJ counting to himself, '1 step, 2 step, under-the-rope, and punch, and bounce... 1-step, 2-step...'
