Ramon ‘diamond’ Dekkers (RIP) revolutionised boxing in Muay Thai. No one cared about punching when you had knees, elbows and kicks to utilise. Dekkers made the Thai’s respect boxing - even Baukaw had a pro boxing fight to sharpen his skills.
Watch Dekkers highlights on YouTube and fights with Coban. If you are short on time, just watch Dekkers vs Coban II.
That fight reminds me how f@#king tough Thai’s are!! Watch Coban closely after he gets smashed in the head and jaw and receives a standing 8 count- he nods his head and pretends nothing happened and all is ok. Rungvisai may not be the most technical fighter but he’s cut from the same cloth as Coban.
I DON’T think Ali should be mentioned if we’re talking about technique. Find me a gym which teaches Ali’s style and i’ll show you a crap gym. Ali’s style made him the man because it was unorthodox and ‘technically’ wrong, so no one teaches it - but he made it work for him. This is one reason he is top 3 hw of all time.
I don’t see many fighters copying Ali, despite his success.
I guess Jack Dempsey left a decent legacy in his wake because a) he was exciting b) broke record purses and attendances and c) his technique was fundamentally sound.
I feel the same way Jack Dempsey left boxers following his lead in brawling, Floyd also broke record purses but was super defensive, so the next generation sees that as a way to make millions. The next few decades will tell what legacy Floyds style has left behind.
Be interesting to do comparisons of PPV’s which were nominated FOTY and how many have been in the last decade or two.
Vijender is like the John L f#cking Sullivan of India boxing you could argue just like Zou Shiming was for Chinese aspiring boxers.
- -Snickers unwapped eh?
I gotta say Jack Johnson before him there was no fighter of that caliber of defence and pure boxing ( for his time of course).
Johnson had a move called The Falling Step. B. Sugar said it could be heard from outside the venue. Pretty sure Johnson coined it, it's in Sugar's book. Thought that was a cool tidbit
No one person has changed boxing or revolutionized boxing as a whole. It's a collective thing. We've had some great trainers and we've had some reasons rules were modified, but largely there's no 'one figure' who did it, is my argument. What revolutionized boxing was it's' delivery to the public though the broadcast channels, without that, we'd have never seen anything.
Its a FACT its barely a thing. Idk wtf you are even going back n forth with me if you don't know that.
There's over a billion people in India & France, 66M population, had over 250 boxing events last year. India had 14.
I meant watching it.

- -You turnin' blue a sure sign of morbidity.
Jack Dempsey ushered in $million gates and spectacle. July 4th, 1919, the Centennial Celebration of the worst beating ever witnessed when he took the title from Big Jess Willard who KTFO out of JJOHNSON!!!
What grade you in son?
So you're telling me he's the 2nd biggest active pro boxer in India like its a bad thing?
To be fair I do think he's gonna need some Zou Shiming type run up to a title to have the influence I'm talking about, but I believe its doable. From my understanding pro boxing in India is barely a thing so it gots a long way to go & it is possible Vijender is already too old to have the upside for his country admittedly.
Pro-boxing is a thing in India.
It’s just people know Vijender isn’t exactly a superstar and so people have less respect for him than they have for some foreign fighters.
that Vijender India guy. Those guys are nearly one man armies for their countries in boxing & in the next 10-20 years I bet we see a slew of Chinese & Indians in pro boxing that will all be saying those two guys influenced them to get into boxing.
As an Indian I assure you that this is definitely not the case. No one gives 2 ****s about that guy.
Mary Kom, Canelo and Tyson are the most admired boxers in India. To a lesser extent Fury because he, as a gypsy is somewhat Indian ethnically.
How much did ali make in total?
I didnt know sugar ray leonard was a featherweight
Ali made $60M in total before 1982.
Ok, you just want to go to 126?
MAB and Morales made it more significant than Hamed did .
Sal and Bazooka before that .
Sorry, Ali with closed circuit showing.
Sugar Ray Leonard was making millions way before Hamed.
At 126, Wilfredo Gomez and Sal Sanchez made that division relevant.
At 130-135 , Camacho and JCC Sr.

It really depends on what aspect of boxing. If you’re talking boxing technique, then a lot of those early guys obviously build the foundations and made the biggest leaps forward to revolutionise how people fight.
If you’re talking about the business, then obviously guys like Floyd revolutionised business models. Although maybe revolutionised is the wrong word. He’s certainly had a huge impact on boxing since he was the biggest name. Fighters wanting to stay undefeated at all costs, promote themselves etc. Etc. I don’t even blame him though, he actually fought very good fighters on the way up to put himself in that position. Young fighters now want the image he had and the record, but they will avoid tough fights.
Right this debate can go on forever
Ray Leonard was first complete boxing package = sweet science
People can say Oscar de Hoya with ppvs, boxer-promoter
Thread can go on forever. This boxer invented this that blah blah blah
Goes back to ray Robinson then
