Ward is retired, why is everyone making threads about him again all of a sudden?
Regardless Ward is too big and too strong for Canelo, it wouldn't be a fair fight given the size difference
i don't think anyone actually believes Ward is retired. He was talking about fighting Anthony Joshua not even that long ago, and apparently Kelly Pavlik said Ward's camp had asked him not too long ago if he would be willing to come out of retirement for a match with Ward. Ward is planning something, or maybe he's just been waiting to see how the field played out after he beat Kovalev.

This is funny. Kovalev beat Ward in their 1st fight. But on average posters are much more confident in Ward's chances against Canelo than in Kovalev's. The thing is - Ward never had a fight where industry (and therefore judges) were against him. If he's to fight Canelo - it will be the case. This is why I think Ward will never take this fight.
Ward would use his size as the bigger man and try to turn it into a brawl...but even at 175 I don't necessarily think he stops Canelo...I think Ward's best talent in a way was his ability to muck up rounds and make them hard to score...and since he fought most of his fights at home it was a good strategy in a way, because he would always get the rounds he needed to win on the cards...as someone who watched a lot of his fights, I just never really saw the clear boxing skills/separation that I would see from Lara, Mayweather GGG or other fighters in their fights in a lot of rounds.
So in that way...honestly a lot of it for me comes down to who is reffing and who is judging...and what weight/what era/version of each fighter. Canelo now is his prime, Ward is not.
Even now at 175, I think most of the rounds are 'close' rounds and it will probably go 12...so people will probably see what they want to see.
Do you mean in their primes or right now.
In their primes-Ward without question. If they fought now, Canelo because Ward has been retired for a while and obviously is older. He might not even be able to make 168.
right now. canelo's camp is interested in 175, also Oscar said he wants Ward.
168 ward by narrow decision . Ward would drain himself
175 ward by...... a boxing clinic
Canelo has a chance
Ward style imo is one of most difficult styles to beat
I had the same/similar thought... "Hmm, maybe this brings Andre Ward back for one more"... when I heard Canelo was eyeing Kovalev/LHW.
Can't call it... voted for a "Draw"
This is obviously the end game for team Canelo so lets get the discussion started off right!
Who do you got lads?

This fight will never happen. Ward is comfortably retired an will never come back. His heart is not in training and fighting and he doesn't need money. Ward is a full light heavyweight and cannot comfortably make 168. I never thought Ward was as good as many think he is. He is a wrestling, grabbing, clinching, holding and hitting dirty fighter and terrible to watch in my opinion. I think Canelo can give him size and weight and still beat him with fast accurate powerful combinations. Canelo can beat him at all ranges be it close, mid range or long range. I think GGG would also beat Ward. I know most will disagree and pick Ward to beat Canelo but that is my honest opinion. Canelo wins on points or possible stoppage from body punches setting Ward up for a late round KO.
You think two guys who have never really set foot in SMW, will beat the best SMW?
lol

Did someone ask about GGG?
Ward has beaten top contenders, champs, etc. and doesnt know how to lose, no matter how ugly a few of his wins are. As good as Saul is, I cant see Ward losing more than 3 rounds vs the red baron.
Depends on the ref. Floyd had Cortez, not sure who Canelo's people could employ to protect Canelo from Ward.

Probably Ward would lobby to have see no evil Weeks.

Ward at 169 or catch weight he could be drained but thats Canelo only chsnce to drain him.
Even then Ward is arguably fighter of decade everything Canelo does Ward does even better he would outbox Canelo on the inside and out it would be competitive thoe.
