-He got stopped by Douglas who was an average puncher at best.
-Got stopped by Holyfield who wasn't particularly a big puncher at HW, most of his KOs came at cruiser, bis KO ratio at HW is only like 50%.
-Got stopped by Lewis who couldn't even put a dent in the 6'3 215lb Mavrovic's chin, and the guy was euro level.
There were also rumors saying he was getting dropped in sparring.
I mean doesn't sound like a durable guy to me, he had good defense and offense, but his durability was highly questionable.
Tysons neck was wider then your torso lol you would have to put on a beating to actually have a chance of stopping him. Joshua gets clipped and ether wobbles on bambie legs or goes down. Tyson was never the fighter to get clipped by one shot and gets on bambie legs. U had to beat him over the course of a long hall fight. The guys chin was rock. Also I believe Douglas was hitting harder then ruiz that night he stopped Tyson. Holyfield all around was a bigger puncher to Ruiz. These guys also had crazy amounts of technique the way they threw their punches was devastating which made it worse. Ruiz sorta wings his shots......
Mike Tyson became cokey, not chinny.
That booger sugar got the best of him.
His early kayo victories over shadowed his beautiful timed slips. He started to believe in his power to the point, that he allowed his defense to regress and he took whoopings because of it.
It would have been amazing to see what he could of become defensively, as he matured into a veteran fighter, but unfortunately, we all know how that story ends.
Holyfield is the most underrated power puncher of all time, threads like this show it. Look into how many durable guys he managed to either drop, hurt or stop, it's actually quite impressive.
He shipped a huge amount of punishment from Douglas, albeit not a big puncher but most fighters would have been knocked out way before Mike was. Was shot vs Lewis, shot to bits later on.
So if Wilder got stopped by Douglas would you say his chin is glass?
Or a cruiser like Holyfield?
Look at AJ, everybody agrees he's chinny & he just got blasted by a 270lb man that can generate serious power, more than the guys that stopped Mike.
And where does Mavrovic fit into all this? I seen LL hit too many guys clean like Mav to consider his power on the level of guys today.
People think today that Wilder's chin is glass! I don't agree with that though, he's a pretty tough guy.
I don't think Ruiz is a bigger puncher than the guys who stopped mike in his prime i.e. holyfield and douglas. and also those fights were the result of two absolute wars, especially douglas he got the shiet beat out of him for the last 5 rounds.
So it's a combination of the fight itself, the skills and the power.
Good chin isn't about never being hurt or never being stopped.
Tyson was beat up vs Douglas and Lewis badly before succumbing. vs. Holyfield he was eating a lot and was stopped on his feet.
He was well past it vs Williams and McBride and sort of just wilted as he wasn't in it anymore (not to mention his knee injury vs Williams).
Foreman was dropped in his career, but that didn't make him chinny.
Just look at the context.
Absolutely not. Tyson had a fantastic chin.

The only reason Douglas won that fight is because the ref gave him a long count after he was KOd. Against Holyfield, I believe Tyson was rattled that Evander was not intimidated by him at all (not to mention the constant headbutts). The Tyson that fought Lewis was basically retired and had lost his killer instinct.
Not at all. Watch the fights he lost. He took crazy amounts of punishment.
Almost anyone would have lost to buster douglas that night. Mike withstood a lot.
Mavrovic withstood more punishment than Tyson vs Lewis though.
I'm not buying the Douglas could beat anybody that night, it's just used to rationalize how Tyson could lose like he could. The popular opinions in boxing are constantly wrong.
Nah he was durable as hell. Even the Douglas fight he was trying to get up and fight on.
Chinny is when you go down and don't get up or get knocked down constantly even by light punchers. Amir Khan basically..
But how does a supposedly durable guy get stopped by sub par punchers?
Compared to today the punchers in the 90s don't hit as hard as this eras. LL is probably the hardest hitter from that generation & he doesn't hit as hard as Wlad who doesn't hit as hard as a Wilder or AJ, lots of vicious punchers in this generation.
If Mavrovic could eat Lewis' punches on the chin as small as he was, what does that make his chin? God like?

What a dumb thread. Tyson didn’t train for the Douglas fight. Post prison Tyson against Holyfield and Lewis he was a shell of his former self.
All Tyson’s losses were accumulation and fatigue. Tyson had a great chin.
