We know Deontay's popularity lags far behind almost all current popular american athletes in non-combat sports. However can you argue he's not even the most popular american combat athlete?
I'd say Jon Jones of the UFC is arguably much more popular and I believe the PPV numbers certainly prove that.
People are going to his fights, and his last fight did over 1 million on Showtime which is subscription based and you have to pay for. Showtime isn't free tv. Anthony Joshua came here and got called Anthony Johnson
AJ was called Johnson by a ret4rded American who knew nothing. But he obviously knew who he was otherwise he wouldn't have called him by any name would he.
why are you all so infatuated with how popular wilder is?????? I get it but its a but weird at how serious you guys are about it and how it affects your life
Very True!
The Most Popular Combat Sport Athlete is Conor McGregor BY FAR! 1+ Million PPV Buys guaranteed every time he steps in the Octagon
Wilder guarantees over a million ppv's anytime he steps up.
Lolx...
Boy they just want leave deontay Floyd and pac man alone.when you the most hated on you doing something right lol.
PAC and flyod had the hate reflect in gates and ppv's. Wilder's obviously is reflecting on YouTube.
Pretty same, huh!!
People really underestimate how popular Deontay Wilder is. People around me know I like boxing and they always say "man you see that Wilder dude".
Wilder is pretty damned popular in real life. So it's hard to say
Lolx.....who are these people around you?
Do they buy wilders ppv or go watch him live?
He passes Jones IMO. Jones is promoted by UFC and that's a guaranteed number of PPV's regardless of who's on the card. Boxing is a tough ticket to sell right now. Canelo is the PPV king but the numbers aren't amazing. If you're talking in terms of pure popularity then Wilder for sure. If you want to talk about generating revenue, that's a different story.
Again does SM represent true popularity? And how many are real followers? How many are more UFC fans over JBJ fans? Theres different dynamics in play.
Do PPV buys even truly represent that across sports? I think the UFC's brand accounts for a certain % of their PPV buys. Meanwhile every boxer has to grow their own brand. Its apples & oranges between sports + with just starting out. JBJ has had numerous PPV's. Wilder just had his first. I think the record for PPV virgins in a boxing PPV is like 600k over the last 20, 30yrs.
Dude, you are in denial. Your av says you are a wilder fan, and you just don't want to see it lol.
You say that those numbers don't represent "true popularity" but there is nothing in which Wilder is superior to Jones. You tell me where. You claimed he is more popular now, you have any proof of anything? No, nothing. I bring facts, you just have your opinion on who is more popular
You asked: How many are more UFC fans over JBJ fansLook at the numbers again
7- Deontay Wilder: 466.000 https://twitter.com/BronzeBomber
6- Chris Weidman: 474.000 https://twitter.com/chrisweidman
5- Donald Cerrone: 564.000 https://twitter.com/Cowboycerrone
4- Daniel Cormier: 779.000 https://twitter.com/dc_mma
3- Cain Velasquez: 904.000 https://twitter.com/cainmma
2- Nate Diaz: 1.240.000 https://twitter.com/NateDiaz209
1- Jon Jones: 2.150.000 https://twitter.com/JonnyBones
He has 3 more times the fans that the third guy. And just google any UFC champion to see how much "being in the UFC helps". You show your ignorance here. There are UFC champions like Cejudo, Usman and Holloway with less followers than Wilder. You just don't know any UFC fighter and don't how popular or unpopular they are.
You said I think the UFC's brand accounts for a certain % of their PPV buysAnd again you showed your ignorance
UFC 232: Jones Vs Gustaffson = 700.000 ppv
UFC 233: Cancelled
UFC 234: Silva Vs Adesanya = 175.000 ppv
UFC 235: Jones Vs SMith = 650.000 ppv
UFC 236: Holloway Vs Poirer = 100.000 ppv
As you can see. UFC ppv numbers don't help unless there is somebody there that sells. Where are those UFC PPV numbers that you claim are much better than boxing ppv numbers? You are here claiming your "opinion" is the truth without any proof of anything and also denying everything talking about conspiracies or showing your lack of knowledge about UFC. I'm bringing facts. Jones is more popular and sells more and is not even close
Boxing isn't big here in the United States.
Depends on how people are looking at it though? Is it not true boxing generates more money in the us than anywhere else? 20k fans in Vegas can generate a bigger gate than 90k in Wembley. If AJ fights Wilder in the UK he will have to fight in the middle of the night to support American audience. I mean per person boxing in the usa may not be as popular as sum other places but if u want to get away from the p4p vision there’s more “Boxing” in every sense of the word in USA than anywhere else. I’m from Canada so I’m not being biased, I’m proud that we support boxing, and I love that sum countries choose boxing to be bigger than the other sports. The GDP of California is more than England’s. I was proud of my rep point to post ratio once, but the more u post the more it goes down. Law of diminishing returns. When the numbers get huge it all changes. I’m not writing this in any negative way towards u beercules because ur statement was true as u put it. There’s almost every sport u can make a living at in the USA. Wilder would be AJ if they changed birth places. AJ would probably be playing American football in the USA. Wilder couldn’t. AJ couldn’t starch Breazeale in a round. Everyone needs to get over themselves. Not like anyone agrees to the winner getting the lions share. If boxing sucks at a certain time, in the USA there’s a pile of other big time sports with huge crowds that u can turn to.
How many of those are real followers doe?
Who's using tactics to grow their SM vs just having organic growth?
Idk, but I know SM followers are an easy way to suggest popularity, but a very flawed way to actually count it.
Not to mention the UFC actually promotes their fighters twitter accoubts while boxers rarely get their SM platforms promoted in mass media.
Come on, dude. You are in denial. It's 2 millions against 400k. That's 5 times more followers. There's no way your "UFC conspiracy theory" can make up that many numbers. If you go for instagram, it's the same:
https://www.instagram.com/jonnybones/
https://www.instagram.com/natediaz209/
..
..(won't bother looking up the rest)

Jones sold 700.000 and 650.000 ppvs in his last 2 fights. The last one against a bum who had no chance where he was -800 favorite which is HUGE for an MMA fight where odds are way more even than in boxing. How can you even compare them?
Jon Jones is way ahead of Wilder in terms of popularity. The PPV numbers back that up for sure. Jones has headlined 13 UFC PPVs and all of them have done more than 300,000 buys.
At this point I think Wilder might be trending higher than JBJ.
Nah, man. UFC has way more fans than boxing in america. Way more fans. This is the list of the most followed current american combat sports athletes on twitter right now:
7- Deontay Wilder: 466.000 https://twitter.com/BronzeBomber
6- Chris Weidman: 474.000 https://twitter.com/chrisweidman
5- Donald Cerrone: 564.000 https://twitter.com/Cowboycerrone
4- Daniel Cormier: 779.000 https://twitter.com/dc_mma
3- Cain Velasquez: 904.000 https://twitter.com/cainmma
2- Nate Diaz: 1.240.000 https://twitter.com/NateDiaz209
1- Jon Jones: 2.150.000 https://twitter.com/JonnyBones
But Wilder wins way more money than all of them. UFC's owners are slavers lol
In terms of popularity. UK boxers have similar numbers than American MMA fighters, but nobody follows american boxers... it seems that nobody cares
No it did less than a mil and less than both Stiverne fights. His viewing figures haven't increased.
Even so , 950,000 on a paid subscription + app is still very good. Are you from America? Showtime isn't regular free tv like fox. Plus i'm pretty sure the NBA finals and analysis was going on around the same time and the viewers didn't even get to build due to the knockout.
That means nothing..when we both know alot of people outside of boxing will just look up the YouTube, IG, clips of him. Or just stream the fight. People spending money to support you and knowing who you are aint the same.
Its means absolutely EVERYTHING when 2 fighters are trying to negotiate a financial split in a fight they are planning to have. Finkel cant sit with Hearn and say Wilder dont sell tickets, Wilder dont sell PPV's but Wilder gets people watching him on Youtube so that warrants a 50-50 split and expect that to be a good enough argument for a split like that.
Infact thats even more embarrassing than what Wilder is doing now which is just demanding it regardless.
People are going to his fights, and his last fight did over 1 million on Showtime which is subscription based and you have to pay for. Showtime isn't free tv. Anthony Joshua came here and got called Anthony Johnson
Shiiiiiiiiiiiit did that ACTUALLY happen?!? I thought we were just joking this whole time :lol1:
