I just don't see it, even with the high work rate of Leo's. Russell is faster, has better fundamentals, better foot work and is more powerful with any punch you name.
Santa Cruz has no power at 126 coupled with having zero defensive skill. Russell would play tether ball with his head.
Santa Cruz has good defense
Better than GGG
I think Gary is slipping quite a bit. It might be ring rust, but his reflexes have slowed his last couple fights. He no longer has head movement and is getting hit more.

- -Junior neutered by a novice Loma.
Been hanging on the fringes since then. When he retires, nobody to notice.
I actually think Leo would beat him honestly, so i don't get why he ducks Gary. Gary is a good fighter but he can be timed and beat. I really don't get why he's calling out Davis. I would root for him heavily over Gervonta, but Davis would knock him out easily.
I could see Leo getting the win. GRJ is a small individual and I don’t think his defense is that great. He doesn’t slip many punches, he just covers up. He has tremendous hand speed and he’s a great combination puncher. But I think he will struggle to get off due to Leo’s activity.
Fuck no! That's why he's been avoiding him. Russell actually has some combination snap and pop on his punches while Leo Santa Cruz' punches are more of the volume, arm punching variety.

I hate watching lsc fight. It feels too basic but it's hard to judge his fight because he's so active in the ring that his punch might not be effective he might just steal rounds on activity alone.
It's always easy to overlook LSC as "too basic" but that steady pressure was even too much for Frampton when Frampton was coming off FOTY accolades. GRG looks flashy and talks a good game but I just don't see him having the same grit as LSC when it comes to a long, tough fight. Not to say it couldn't happen. It would be competitive, but I've learned not to overlook SantaCruz just because there's nothing eye catching about his style.
Honestly, LSC just out boxed him off the back foot in the rematch and that was the bigger issue for Frampton than just the activity. LSC kept countering Frampton coming in and used his length beautifully.
LSC has a chance in this fight for sure. GRJ is faster, but often times fights at one pace. Jojo's body shots bothered him some and he was never able to completely separate himself from him.
65/35 GRJ but not a mismatch.
Yes I do.
Leo Santa Cruz's merciless machine gun onslaught will leave Gary Russell jr. looking like Andre Berto after the Robert Guerrero fight.
Something tells me if Russell were Mexican and Santa Cruz wasn't, you'd agree with me.

The Frampton fights make my case. Santa Cruz got a narrow win and a narrow loss. IMO, Russell is 10x the fighter Frampton is.
Wish this fight would happen. Obviously Russell wants it.

Leo's height & reach advantages + his extremely high work rate and endless gas tank and heart & toughness will be huge factors leading him to a victory.
