Though it shouldn’t be a feat to beat a fighter two weight classes before you, which one did it more impressively atleast?
Spence vs Garcia
Floyd vs Marquez
Loma vs Rigo
The latter fighters all climbed up two weight divisions.
Take: I find Floyd winning over Marquez the more impressive victory over the two, the only catch was that he did not make weight for that fight otherwise he would’ve atleast gotten better credit for it.
Floyd was out for 21 months — and didn’t look anything like it— and I believed he gladly carried Marquez, the pound for pound number 2 at that time, until round 12.
Discuss. :boxing:
Edit: Margarito and Sergio was also calling out for Floyd at that time in 2009. And of course the many for a pacquiao fight. That’s why he was highly criticized for choosing a lightweight instead.
Loma's victory,
Nobody had solved the Rigo defence wizard puzzle yet, and it was done is style, no mas.
Marquez had allready been beat.
Rigondeaux had been knocked down a few times before including by a low level opponents. The riddle wasn't that hard to solve.
Floyds win over Marquez then Loma's over Rigo.
Spence beating Mikey was just meh, way less significant than even GGG beating Brook.
Oh i forgot to include GGG’s.
Or Canelo-khan
The bold alone should make that a negative, but to each their own
Fighting guys two weight classes below you is already a negative. So in this case were comparing the negatives and there will be winner
I hate the marquez victory the way it happened, as many other welterweights were calling out Floyd plus sergio martinez. Then cheating on the scales. But in this case, it’s atleast more impressive than the other two that fought guys two weight classes below them.
Had spence KOd garcia then it’d be the top 1
None were impressive but only one guy cheated on the scales.
I agree to some extent that we shouldn’t be impressed with fighters winning against guys two weight classes below them.
But in this case were comparing the awful matchups so im sure there’s a winner

The bold alone should make that a negative, especially with Marquez moving up 2 weight classes AND FMJ coming in heavier than the agreed upon weight.....then thrown in that you said he carried Marquez to 12, which ISNT impressive at all tbh....but to each their own
Lomachenkos over rigondeaux. Not only did he beat an undefeated p4p level opponent he made him quit, completely outboxing him. The wins been revised but a lot of people fancied rigo to win. The other two fights went the distance.
I for one honestly rooted for Rigo, as I tend to support underdogs more, and it felt like a total joke when he quit. That fight just didn’t show much punches landed for me for it to be a top 1 here as both fighters missed a lot. Rigo just couldn’t deal with whatever Loma was doing, he wasn’t even hurt and he quit. His ego bled first.
Definitely Floyd's win over Marquez. Marquez is a future hall of famer who would have been very competitive with any ww at that time except Floyd. Even considering the size difference that was one of Mayweather's most impressive performances.
Agree to everything else you said, except I don’t think marquez would’ve been competitive to other ww’s at that time — unless ofcourse against pacquiao, if we consider him a full ww in 2009 which i dont think he was yet. I doubt Marquez will beat 2009 version of Cotto, Mosley or Margarito. Too much size advantages for those guys who rehydrates up to 160lbs during their ww runs. He’s also not a mover to avoid their full swings. And margarito would’ve walked to him, much harder than the baby bull diaz did.
It was only until 2012 that Marquez seemed to have adjusted to the weight a bit.

You guys got it right. Anybody who shuts out Marquez or at least wins very convincingly is impressive.
Tim Bradley deserves props as well for spanking Marquez.
