The biased Sky Sports commentary team like to talk about him like he's a prime Roberto Duran. But what makes this the case? He must have some top, top wins... I came to the startling realization that Sam Eggington, an English clubfighter, is one of Smith's best wins.
John Thompson, 19-4 (7 KO) - American domestic level
Liam Williams, 20-2-1 (15 KO) - European level Brit
Predrag Radosevic, 33-2 (13 KO) - Record filled with Eurobums
'Jimmy' Kilrain Kelly, 23-2 (9 KO) - British domestic level
Sam Eggington, 24-6 (15 KO) - British domestic level
Smith has went 6-0 (5 KO) against these opponents. Is this the resume of a killer? Sky Sports seem to think so, and according to them he has a very good chance of going to America and defeating Erislandy Lara or Jermell Charlo.
He's a decent fringe world level fighter. I won't call him good until he beats a genuine good world class fighter. He's fun to watch though and brings it with his come forward style.
I have limited exposure to Smith. But none of the Brits on here have ever claimed he was a quality fighter and with those idiots that's saying a helluva lot
There was nothing controversial about the second Smith v Williams fight. It was a competitive fight but Smith edged it and got the right decision, there was no complaints from Williams or his team.
Williams was winning the first fight on points but the fact is that the tide was turning fast. Smith cut Williams with punches and Williams was also looking to be getting hurt and tired and Smith was getting to him. The corner pulled Williams. It's a fair win for Smith too, even if Williams was up on the cards.
Anyway he is probably fringe world level. He won't have enough to beat the top guys in the division but he can compete at the level. A bit like his brother Stephen really. He'll give a decent account of himself but come up short at a higher level. Stephen never got a vacant title shot as easy as Liam's though.
For someone who claims to watch all the fights, you sure go around posting a lot of nonsense on here. I honestly took you for a casual. Maybe grow up a little and stop with the ignorant shyt if you want anyone to take you seriously.
I joke around a bit here and there but can you give an example of all the "nonsense" I post? Because when it comes to the outcomes of fights I always express my genuine opinion. And where did you get it from that that Smith vs Williams rematch was controversial? From your own scoring or what? It was a close fight but not controversial. The first fight was.
You're a clown for suggesting I didn't watch the fight. You're at the wrong address bro. I watch almost all the fights from gatekeepers, to prospects to domestic matchups because I love the sport. I remember I had Smith winning that fight 115-113. The right man won, almost everyone agreed...even Liam Williams himself post fight agreed with the decision.
You should learn how to score fights

This^ clown boxrec'd the fight and tried to act as if he watched it. :lol1:
If you watched it you would have known how controversial that one was too. No better a "win" than the first one.

He legitimately won the rematch or did you not see that fight? .

We're calling that Williams fight a "win" toward his resume when he was behind on all judges scorecards and won because Williams was cut??
He legitimately won the rematch or did you not see that fight? Liam Williams is a pretty good fighter and so is Smith. He gave Munguia a very good fight and showed up vs Canelo. No way he beats any of the champions tho in my opinion. Can only win a vacant belt somewhere.
He should be a Euro level/fringe world guy, but generally only seems to want to fight levels below or levels above where he should be so hard to get a true gage.
I’d like to see him against Kell Brook.
At the moment he is like a good European fighter. He can’t be world level because he’s not beaten anyone up there yet.
Liam Williams is better than him though, even if he does hold two wins over him, lol.
Lol. Smith vs. Williams is one of those small-hall rivalries we got in the late 90s/early 00s. Just goes to show how out of hand it's getting with the amount of alphabet "World" titles that Smith held one of them. :lol1: Why not Smith-Williams III and IV for the British title? Williams has never fought above domestic level, he should go after the European title to add to his British.
I’d like to see him against Kell Brook.

His losses were against top opposition and he put in respectable performances.
I don’t really know why people are always so critical on here? Do you really expect sky to be sitting here commentating going “ok he’s levels above him but to be fair he’s not good enough anyway so no point anybody watching this fight?
People need to realise its impossible for every fight to absolute top class. I actually thought this fight would be more competitive and the card as a whole was actually pretty good. Obviously we all want the big big fights but I’m going to enjoy good fights and appreciate fighters for who they are
The card was a what? Scott Fitzgerald stole the whole show and his fight with Anthony Fowler is an early contender for British FoTY. Show will be remembered as Fitzy's coming out party.

A decent fight for him at that weight, and no doubt would be the biggest-named win of his career, would be Brandon Rios. He's at 154 now. Liam could do with a win Stateside, as he's been outclassed over there on his previous two visits. The Super Welterweight division is really lacking in big names and star power. The biggest fight out there for Smith, outside of getting outclassed again by one of the divisional leaders, would be the Kell Brook fight. And doubt Brook would be interested?

Yes we are. And the rematch was an even more dubious MD.
It is good that he has signed with Matchroom, as he will be forced to back up the big talk and take on a better level of opposition. Not like when he was with Warren, Warren goes out of his way to find obscure opponents with padded records.
