Fighters who you thought should retire but then proved you wrong?

In recent memory nobody comes close to wlad kltschko , after being kod by sanders and Brewster and nc vs Williamson in which he was rocked everybody said he should retire , watch wlad vs Peter build up and even vitali asked him to retire , he was dropped a few times vs Peter if memory serves me correctly and the odds at that point of him unifying and ruling the division for 10 years would be to far fetched for a Hollywood script , not bad old wlad lol

Hopkins for sure , Big George. Jimmy Braddock. Bobby Czyz everybody thought was finished after prince Charles Williams fights , only to beat Gold medalist Andrew Maynard than a few fights later Win a cruiser weight title.

Hopkins did it so many times, even though I think he actually beat Calzaghe I still thought he should have retired after that fight. Then he went and beat the hell out of Pavlik That was such a dominating performance from an “old man.” The later part of his career was so exciting just because of his age. How many times have you seen a guy in his late 40’s go out and just dominantly out box young fighters? Even if they aren’t necessarily experienced or “good,” the young fighter should win just based on youthful energy. Then at almost 50 he goes out against a killer in Kovalev and doesn’t get KOed. Then at 51 yrs old, fights Smith Jr and I think he did reasonably well up until the KO. Hopkins was a real technician in the ring.

Cotto after he lost to Austin Trout. He lost decisively to a fighter that he would've destroyed in his prime, he was 32 at the time and was coming off back to back losses. It just felt like it was not meant to be. Then he got with Roach and had a career renaissance.

I refuse to hear any disrespect of Hopkins because of this! Who fights an animal like Kovalev at 50 ****ing years old? Like a real life version of Apollo Creed vs Ivan Drago, except B-Hop actually held his own! Hopkins is a real man and warrior, a good boxer to show your sons

Miguel Cotto from recent times. Didnt think he’d have success again and he even won the lineal mw title (despite it being against Martinez under extremely unfortunate circumstances). Lost more fights but it waa great to see Cotto look like Cotto again. . Cotto under Roach is an excellent example. Pac is another. I really thought he was done but he's still got something in the tank.

There’s George Foreman who retired before I was born but I’ll count him with like a decade long retirement. Unreal. This man fought both Ali and Frazier and THEN Holyfield eras later. F ucking WHAT?! That’s not even mentioning other great names. AND he won a major world title in that run? Amazing. George turned pro 3 years after Willie Pep retired, and was still heavyweight champion (he beat Briggs, damnit!) two years before Rigo won gold in Sydney. Definitely a story unlike any other in sports.

Holyfield. Before the Tyson fights he looked terrible, plus the heart scare he had, it looked like he should quit, but the rest is history.
