What Mikey Garcia is Missing?

Mikey thinks he can withstand Spence's strength and punching power for the limit and he thinks he can do it without getting badly hurt or slowing down in the process. Mikey also thinks that Spence has a lower boxing IQ than he does and is slow. Mikey Garcia thinks he's better than Spence in every category. I find all of this hilarious. Mikey Garcia? Only advantage garcia has over spence his higher skills/defense maybe timing but he gives up size, strength power. His only slightly faster if that. The skill gap isnt that big either, its not like spence is a wilder unskilled fighter. When Pac beat bigger guys like cotto and margo, he had lighting speed and power, odd angles, landing at will. This is different for garcia. Garcia is more like JMM, well rounded but not fast or powerful.

Mikey's been working with Victor Conte for I believe the last 3 months. A guy who has never worked at putting on muscle can make fast gains in those first 3 months of weight training and I'm curious to see what he looks like but can't find any pics. If anyone has seen recent pics please post them here. I found this...he's currently 150 lbs. He sounds like he's going to be OK...sparring bigger guys and pushing them around. Apparently his sparring partners are saying he's strong. Nobody's giving him a chance but I think he's going to be just fine in there.

Dude, that is one of Mikey's best attributes. Mikey and Crawford are prolly the two best in the game right now when it comes to adapting to any style; they're both smart, thinking fighters. Mikey being undersized for 147 is the problem. I don't think he's going to be able to "adjust" to Spence

You got to have something other than good fundamentals to move up and beat a fighter like Spence. There got to be, in my opinion, some kind of freakish ability you have that your opponent doesn't.....lightening foot speed (Pacquiao), freakish left hook (Trinidad), fast hands/combos (SRL), powerful right hand (Hearns), relentless pressure (Duran, Chavez), adjustments and defensive mastery (Mayweather), old man strength (Hopkins), superior athletic ability (Roy Jones), charisma (De La Hoya)... Mikey is not exceptional in any of these categories!!!! I am a boxing fan and I don't see what his strategy could possibly be, challenging Spence, imo, will be an epic fail for Mikey Garcia! I think all Garcia needs is supreme conditioning. He needs the stamina and strength of a pacquiao or duran. If he has that he can take it. Mikey is a mystery right now because people are expecting the garcia vs lipinets and broner, a garcia who was doing damn near the bare minimum of boxing training. But I think a closer comparison would be the Garcia that fought Salido, Burgos etc i.e the fights while under Ariza. The advantages are: Spence= Length, Weight, Stamina Garcia= Accuracy, Defense, Footwork, IQ Power and speed I will wait for when the fight begins. Power though, doesn't mean much if you can't land it, besides that the danger Spence poses is more so his volume of punches. What I can say is that Garcia will be punching harder than Brook.

Even if it's a slight one. You already know this but southpaws are used to orthodox fighters and orthodox fighters face southpaws less commonly. If you consider another sport, like Tennis for instance, left handed players are like 40% of the all time greats, when left handed population in general is about 10%. But I get your point though.

Garcia is just outsized. I don't think he carries his power up to 147 against a guy who spars with Middleweights. Spence will be able to walk through his punches and inflict the more damaging blows. It's a matter of physics, not boxing. Mikey is a better all-around boxer, but he couldn't really hurt Broner, Lipinets or Easter, so I don't see him hurting Spence.

Crawford is smaller than Spence and closer to Mikey's natural weight. I don't see Mikey beating him either for all the same reasons he can't beat Spence.
