Using an alias to fight?

I have noticed some funny names in boxrec. But I noticed someone talking about a guy name "Chief Crazy Horse" I checked and saw that's the name he uses officially to fight. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/54486 I am wondering if you could use an alias to fight. Like the announcers not call you by the first and last name but by your alias?
