Spence and Crawford are the best at 147 IMO.
If they were to fight this year I'd pick Spence all day.
Same here. Next year I might go with Bud, after he seasons into the division.
Spence who came to the UK and took the belt always said I'd give him props for that if he pulled it off
Id rather he proved it fully by beating Thurman and Crawford tho
Benevides had a lot of success against Crawford even though he had a bum knee. Not sure if that indicates Crawford is not as good as people believe or that Benevides is a very good fighter. If Benevides wasn't so immobilized by his bum knee that could have been a really bad fight for Bud.
I might pick Spence as the best welterweight...but I'm not sure.
People were gushing over Thurman during the first 6 rounds of his fight against Lopez. Everyone was saying how sharp he looked, like he was fighting flawlessly and then as soon as he gets clipped and hurt in the 7th round....All of a sudden Thurman becomes a bum.....We might see the same change of heart from fans when Crawford and Spence get hurt. And will they show the heart and legs to survive as Thurman did?
Everyone looks like a beast until they find themselves in a tight spot. I can see that boxing fans never learn. We always believe the hype, thinking that certain fighters are untouchable....but we always find out that none of them are unbeatable.
I don't know why people keep saying Spence hasn't done anything. He had 3 high level fights where he demolished all 3. His one easy fight was a total wipe out.
Crawford beat a terrible boxer in Horn. He struggled in a fight that was supposed to easy.
Thurman should be number one but he didn't look like it against a C-level fighter.
I like all 3 but Spence is clearly number one at this point.
Thurman. He wasnt great after his layoff but his resume puts him over Crawford and Spence. Manny beat broner, big deal. Thurman has beaten the better fighters.
One things for sure. It ain’t Thurman. Before when he had his big wins vs Garcia and Porter, sure. But after the 2 years off due to injury and the poor performance vs Lopez, he can’t be number 1. He can work to reclaim it though.
Crawford #1 with Spence being second and Thurman third. I don't know what kind of drugs the people picking Pacquiao are on. Just compare how Pacquiao did against Horn to what Crawford did.
Spence - only 1 decent win which was neck and neck until the stoppage. Up for debate as to whether Brook’s injury was related to the Golovkin bearing prior. Spence’s run has been lacklustre since.
That's a pretty stupid debate.
Crawford - Spence would be a great fight.
I think Crawford has more facets to his game and can do more things, but at the same time, Spence is very good at what he does well. I think Spence would beat Crawford at welterweight.
Spence might be the only guy in the division who beats Crawford, but these fighters need to prove it. They need to fight each other.
Keith one time thurman. Im not interested in crawford and spences eye test wtf have either of them done. Same guys hyping them were the same guys hyping charlos I have been impressed with Spence for a long time because he beats common opponents better than other top welterweights do. He quickly and easily KOed Algieri who Khan and Pacquiao could not stop. He KOed Bundu who Thurman could not stop and Bundu said Spence was better than Thurman. He KOed Brook who beat Porter. I like Crawford but all he did at 147 was beat the hell out of Horn who is not very good and should have a loss on his record to Pacquiao. I have never been a fan of the Charlos and think they are overrated by many.
If we are talking about potential, I would give a slight nod to Crawford for his boxing skills. I see him outboxing Spence to a UD. If Spence tactically handles Garcia, and not just manhandling, then Spence’s potential is solidified.
If we’re talking about #1 welterweight based on money-in-the-bank performances and experience, no doubt Pacquiao compared to these well-advised businessmen WWs of today.
Come on man hes not beat anyone. He was undisputed in the crappest division i think theres ever been
I don’t think he’s beaten any greats but not many active fighters have. The Gamboa fight was considered close to a pick’em and I guarantee if Crawford hadn’t became a p4p player certain people would put it into perspective as being an excellent win at that time. Also I remember so many folks claiming Crawford was ducking Postol and he’d lose that one. He shut the dude out. Is Gamboa at 135 vastly inferior to Brook at 147 or Rigondeaux at 130? Is Postol vastly inferior to Walters or Linares?
You can only beat what’s in front of you for the titles and being undisputed is an excellent achievement. Golovkin has a weaker division for years and never did it for example. Sure, we can say why he didn’t but the fact is that he didn’t.
The division is so poor, and the top fighters have not fought each other, barring Thurman/Garcia
The only Welterweight I would consider having any momentum is Porter, whose narrow loss to Thurman meant we wouldn’t know who would win a rematch.
As for the rest of the division, we have:
Spence - only 1 decent win which was neck and neck until the stoppage. Up for debate as to whether Brook’s injury was related to the Golovkin bearing prior. Spence’s run has been lacklustre since.
Thurman - simply hasn’t been active. Gained huge momentum from the wins over Porter (close) and Garcia, yet injury and inactivity minimised it.
Crawford - yet to really establish himself at 147, but has shown some promise. His promotional opportunities seem fairly limited though.
On the lower tier, you’ve got Garcia and Pacquiao, though Manny is more of a wildcard.
It’s a very shallow and disappointing division, considering that prior to 2015, this was the premier division
I agree with a lot of what you’re saying, but you need to admit that it is a talent rich division. They aren’t all fighting each other, no, but there is potential there.
Keith one time thurman. Im not interested in crawford and spences eye test wtf have either of them done. Same guys hyping them were the same guys hyping charlos
Not entirely. I think the Charlos are garbage but have been on Crawford’s bandwagon since before he was 2014 Fighter of the year. He’s since became the undisputed champion which alongside Usyk makes him the only fighter to do so in over a decade.
A lot of people acknowledged both achievements and that are tangible achievements that help add credence to the eye tests.
