Oscar was a one handed fighter most of his career. So I doubt it.

He outboxed Trinidad, made him look amateur at times. He should have got the decision but he gave away the fight Was out hustled by the best version of Mosley in a competitive fight. Won a close fight against an underrated Quartey. Yeah a faded Pernell made him look silly but Whitaker was a bonafide ATG. People forget how good prime DLH was at welterweight. He was very good. A step below ATG but more than a match for the current crop of welterweights

Oscar always did do better in fantasy fights than reality

Oscar was good but wasn't that good. Spence is too strong for him and Crawford too skilled. Oscar had a great career beating C and B level fighters.

I say Crawford and perhaps Thurman would give De La Hoya the most trouble, since they appear to be the most flexible out of the bunch.

Can't say he would destroy them all. Crawford would be a long night for him. But definitely he would fight most of them. Unlike belt holders these days.

The only two I'd call top welters are Spence and Crawford. Both beat him or DLH gets a gift ala Ike Quartey.

That's excellent point that I never heard anyone bringing up! De La Hoya came up from Lightweight (His 130 "campaign" was a complete joke so not counting that).. At first, He was carefully managed - in a sneaky way I'd say.. As super featherweight - He fought nobodies. As lightweight - He was fighting mostly super featherweights. As Super Lightweight - He was fighting lightweights. ...so that He always had size advantage. Then as He got into his super fight part of career, He never dominated elite fighters... ...Canelo is now following very similar career path - close fight with elite fighters and inbetween that, a lot of tune-ups against cherry-picked B level fighters. That's not really a knock on De La Coo Coo. Very hard to be dominant against elite fighters, which is why up and comers are usually overrated while elite guys coming off big fights can be underrated (Think of Charlo's suddenly being favorites over Canelo and Golovkin after They knocked out few lower caliber contenders). Anyway - as I was rumbling quite a bit here - Point is, De La Hoya wasn't ever destroying fighter on the level of Spence, Thurman, Crawford - or even Garcia and Porter. It has to be said that Whitaker was past his prime, always a bit undersized at 147 - and came off two very close fights with good, but not great Wilfredo Rivera. Shane Mosley was still building into 147 lbs fighter... Quartey was very good, but had his flaws... Oscar would belong in the mix on elite level today, but it would probably go the same way as it went in his time. Some great battles, winnig some - losing some - some surprises, some disappoitments. Great and memorable career, but just step below greatness overall.:lol1: I would probably have been more diplomatic about Oscar's earlier career, but yeah. It's a tried and tested formula and by no means a criticism of the fighters who are groomed from earlier in their careers (like Oscar or Canelo say).. who still after all have to win the fights (or at least come close enough for the judges) and are absolutely very good fighters... just not the stratospheric greats H2H their reputations suggest. Always worth remembering that resume is at least as much about opportunity as it is about ability.

Nah. Oscar may have been a superstar but he was never leagues ahead of his peers... remember you only have to be a little bit better than the best guy you fought at the time you fought 'em.
