Semi retired, took the fight on 6 days notice. Gave a hell of a performance. Not to mention the weight cut
He's a technically sound boxer. Lets give it up for MAAAT KOROBOV!!! for coming through and not laying down for a payday!!
hopefully he lands a bunch of good fights & ends up paid nicely as well
One would think he got the Monroe Jr purse for fighting Charlo... Nice upgrade from the undercard rate he was supposed to get...
I absolutely unequivocally thought MATVEY won the fightAh. Fair nuff. You didn't actually say that in your opening post, so I wasn't sure. I thought maybe the omission had been deliberate. Myself I saw a draw... maybe just edging to Charlo, but close enough that I wouldn't be too fussed either way.
Regardless the point stands that Matvey does deserve congratulations to my mind a great deal more than Jermall deserves much of the criticism he's getting. Overhyped? Sure, if you like, but that ain't really a criteria I use when judging a fighter - other folks opinions have never really been too much a concern of mine. Jermall's shown he's a good fighter, who I think belongs in the equation at the top end of 160 even if he's probably never going to separate himself. Maybe not the elite that some have claimed but that's a rare thing and to be prized rather than expected regardless of what the inevitable marketing tells us.
hes a good fighter who stayed in amatures for a long time, underrated, but he had a fight scheduled and is very experienced stop acting like he was sitting on the couch for 2 years. I remember him fighting Lee, he was winning
I know there's plenty of dudes celebrating cos Jermall apparently underperformed, but I'd say the TS is kinda on point here... he ain't even saying Matvey won, but he did put on a hell of a performance and should be congratulated for it. The point is that it isn't so much that Jermall underperformed as that Matvey was being hugely underestimated by almost everyone. We spoke earlier about how good of a fighter Matvey had been and also about his tendency to leave his chin out (which, luckily for him didn't catch up with him until it was too late for Jermall to capitalise). He surprised me cos I thought he was too far past it and would get caught earlier, but I always knew he had the skills to give Jermall real problems.
I can't speak for anyone else, but for me at least Jermall showed something here - especially with the distraction of his brother's loss. All fighters need to face this kind of adversity, and how Jermall reacts to this will tell us a great deal about what kind of man he is and how good a fighter he may become.

You should be thanking the Harrison-Charlo judges. Jermall was off his game before the fight even started. That was evidently clear

Dude come on man. It was clear that Charlo was visibly effected.
Top fighters have a mentality that don't let things affect them
Floyd was due to go to jail a few weeks after the Cotto fight but he still had a strong enough mentality to train and win the fight.
Korobov and Kalajdzic are prime examples of picking the wrong promoter, and how they can silence your career, "if your face dont fit". Itll hurt them in the end, people see

I don;t think Charlo has much game. This is a pitty excuse

You show your appreciation by spelling a dude's name wrong in the title?:lol1:
That said, I think that this is a very much needed thread... there's a lot of focus on Charlo having underperformed but very little recognition that Matvey is a very, very good fighter (despite some shaky whiskers), for whom the stars just didn't align in the pro ranks.
Respects to him! Hopefully he gets another opportunity in a big fight next time with a full camp to prepare for it and not just a week. But yeah he will be given more opportunities for sure after that effort
Bit misleading, I think he already had a fight scheduled so it wasn't like he was coming off the couch. But I've always been a fan, very talented but that Lee fight seriously set him back. Hopefully he gets some good fights before he's done.
