With the recent Adonis Stevenson incident in a fairly high profile fight, its no wonder they has been a media shut out on his condition.
This was not some small time back street blue collar boxing match that went from, this would have been watched under top level medics and health and safety teams, yet it looks ever increasingly like hes going to be permanently finished.
Now imagine if this happened in the Anthony Joshua v Klitscko fight, or the Fury Wilder fight, in both fights guys took big punishment.
My question is not whether i think boxing should be banned, but more with us living in a PC environment where health and safety is getting crazy, how long can the media and public tolerate guys being put in comas.
As i say i am sure boxers often know what they sign up for a bit like the Army/military, but that is not televised for entertainment, boxing is.
thoughts?
No it will never be banned world wide. Counties that never allowed boxing allow it now. Professional fighting including MMA and kick boxing are more popular than ever. There have always been lots of deaths and serious injuries in boxing but it's still here and it always will be. It's possible a country could ban boxing but most counties won't. The UK, the USA, Russia, Japan and Mexico will never ban boxing because they love it.
Right now it's ok as it's mostly straight guys beating each other up
Once you get a gay, tranny (after they infiltrate the sport) or woman getting seriously hurt, the LGTBQVWXYZ brigade will be all over it and get it banned. They always get their own way because everyones afraid to be labelled a bigot and go against them, so they will all agree and get it banned.
Maybe not banned, but could see it being seriously toned down. Think one of the biggest issues is fighters boiling down unnaturally to make weights that are harmful to their health. Then within just 24 hours, taking a barrage of blunt force trauma to the head, after purposely starving their bodies. Just isn't healthy, no way you can paint it as anything but dangerous and self-harming.
Wish I saw this before I replied lol. You’re 100% right. Not to mention that dehydrating themselves actually removes the fluid barrier from between the brain and skull...the barrier that PROTECTS the brain
All they need to do is keep guys from boiling down and fight at their actual weights. There’s a reason you rarely have issues at heavyweight and the guys punch much harder
there is much else they could change before that option.
They could immediately take the KOed boxer straight to the hospital. And not wait for symptoms which can sometimes take an hour.
Here AS took a shower and then had symptoms. Precious minutes lost when the brain swells or bleeds.
Every contact sport has casualties it's sometimes the price a person pays for doing something they love and get paid big money for.
Not ever will boxing be banned in my opinion.
It's way too ingrained in our coulture for anything so drastic to happen.
