A loss to the WBA super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding not only could taint Canelo Alvarez's decision over Gennady Golovkin this year, it could significantly muddle the future for the Mexican star. Alvarez moves up from 160 pounds to 168 in search of a third division title, which would place him in special company among his countrymen - only eight others have held three division crowns. That's the quest at Madison Square Garden against Fielding, a heavy underdog despite owning the belt. Click Here To Read More]
It’s not Rocket Science. There are no big money fights at Super Middleweight on the level with the opposition at Middleweight.
Middleweight:
Angrade
Jacobs
Saunders
Lemieux
GGG III
Super Middleweight:
Ramirez ???
Callum Smith ???
Uzcategui ???
Groves ???
DeGeale ???
Dirrell ???
Eubanks Jr ???
Benavidez ???
Fielding isnt world level mate. He did win a vacant belt, against another guy who wasnt world level. But we saw hes level against an inexperienced Smith. I dont begrudge Rocky hes payday, hes a nice guy, or Canelo an easy one after a hard fight with Golovkin. But there are so many good fights at middle and Canelo is now the man. Golovkin is on the way out. If Canelo doesnt fight a Charlo, Andrade or asks for a Smith catch weight, he should get all the stick Golovkin did.If Canelo doesn't fight Jacobs, Andrade, Benavidez, Zurdo, Uzcategui, or Smith, after Fielding, I would be disappointed! However, I have no doubt he'll fight one of them. I'll add one exception: Errol Spence Jr.! I would love to see Canelo vs. Errol Spence Jr. in September! I think Jerry Jones and ODLH would love to see it too!
I would not give GGG anything but props if he fought Fielding, or any other Champion @ 168! My problem with K2, is that he's only considering it now because Canelo is doing it first! GGG's new TV deal will tell me everything I need to know! PBC (Charlo, Hurd), ESPN (Brant), or DAZN (Canelo, Andrade)! We'll see!

New Canelo weight division 165 coming soon lol. Hes gonna make the 160lbers come up and weaken the guys at 168 by making them come down
Can't wait for him and Oscar to say "I'm not a real super middle weight" in their defense.
Its so stupid. fight at 160 or 168 anything in between is only being done to gain an unnecessary advantage
Not if he fights at the proper division limits with no catchweights.
There's no rule which states that a fighter has to fight in only one division. There's in fact a precedent of fighters being champs at two divisions simultaneously. (And I don't really care for any of these belts, let alone that bogus "regular" thing.)
Imagine the ****e you'd have given Golovkin for fighting Rocky Fielding..I would not give GGG anything but props if he fought Fielding, or any other Champion @ 168! I dig this site, I really do, but one thing really pisses me off about boxingscene: They are always hyping up a million freaking belts. Sorry, but Canelo is NOT fighting for a world title in a third weight class. At least not tomorrow night. Manny Pacquiao is a legend, no doubt about that, but HE IS NOT A CURRENT CHAMPION. Keith Thurman still has the WBA welterweight title. Which is a joke in itself! Thurman! Its been two years!
Callum Smith is the WBA super middleweight champ. Not Rocky Freakin' Fielding. Callum, Benavidez, Ramirez, and Uzcategui are all champs, title holders at 168. That's it. If Canelo wants a title at 168, he needs to fight one of those four.
Man you guys are stupid asses lol
Canelo means making fights at 160 and 168. Mixing it up. Between the two weight classes.
NOT 162, 164, 166 and everything between.
We have to give Canelo some credit here! He has fought champions at 152, 154, 160, and now 168! There was another fighter who said "...anybody from 154 to 168," and only fought guys at 160! We should be clowning him, and not Canelo!

He’s even fought a world (future in diff division) champ at 47! He beat Miguel Vasquez.
Hell, he even beat the light world flyweight champ in a street fight in “open weight”. Cracked Archi Solis’ jaw.

Guys I called the Canelo weight. It’ll be 162 for the 68 pounders and 168 for Lemieux. 161 for GGG to not defend MW titles and defend the 168 instead (if he wins).
It’s going to be glorious as all comers from 154-168 will have a place to meet.
It shall ironically be called “GGG Weight.” (name pending)
Because it will be the real 154-168.
What a man.
Don't forget 155lbs (Neloweight 1)! And 164 (Chavez)!Basically, if you're good enough, you can get that work! We might not like waiting for it at times, but Canelo's resume is the best in boxing today! I think GGG pushed him past Pacquiao!
You missed 155, man.:lol1:How could I forget Cotto @ 155? My bad! From Floyd to Fielding! That's quite the resume! My wish is to see Canelo vs. Spence Jr. @ 160, before Canelo moves to 168 for good!
If he didnt dump the strap, canelo 3g (1 and 2) would have been a mandatory defense and been either 55/45 or 60/40 split. That was the issue.
Business move, definitely. I didn't follow the negotiations at the time so I didn't know the motives for vacating. I considered GGG the man to beat at 160 even with Canelo beating Cotto, I didn't consider him the Champ until he beat GG

I gotcha bud. I prefer the CaneloGGG outcomes at the full 160 vs Canelo Cotto at 155 for the WBC strap. Now it has more credence..which I guess I can give Canelo a pass for dumping the strap.

So far in canelos young career he’s faced the best 147 lber, the best 154 lber, and the best 160 lber (2x) yet somehow he’s still considered a coward? But it isnt hate...
I’m sure he’ll fight wherever he feels it gives him the best advantage and just bend the rules of boxing to create multiple Canelo weight classes, just like when he sat at 155lbs
Might be salty, or just critical. Being critical is not always a negative thing, it's about cutting through the promotional spin and rhetoric to attempt to discover what's really going on.
Long time boxing fans have to put up with a lot and shell out a lot, so some of us feel we are entitled to question certain figures motives.
I respect Canelo's skills in the ring and he has an impressive resume for still such a young man.
But that resume also conceals some shifty moves, lacking in integrity and respect. Between Cotto and GGG, he fought Liam Smith, at 154, Amir Khan at 155 then a weight drained JCC jr at 164.5.
Overall this time he was indicating that he was ready to fight GGG when he had no intention of doing so.
He binned his 'Middleweight' WBC belt rather than fight a then prime and ready Golovkin.
Is he allowed to do that? Of course. Is it the behaviour of a champion? I'll leave that one open.
Cheers and respect.I gotcha bud. I prefer the CaneloGGG outcomes at the full 160 vs Canelo Cotto at 155 for the WBC strap. Now it has more credence..which I guess I can give Canelo a pass for dumping the strap.
