First, do you think--in the 12th rd KD--that Wilder was already on the way down from Wilder's right? On some angles, it seems yes. On others, it's not clear.
Second, if he was already going to hit the canvas, the left to him while he was going down was unnecessary. Totally legal, of course. But think of Ali standing over Foreman with an arm ready to go as Foreman did his slomo like tumble on the way down.
Ali clearly decided not to hit him again though he could have. Foreman later called Ali a "gentleman" for not throwing another punch then.
In any case, the 2nd punch puts to pasture anything about a fix.
Yes, I know it's boxing and was legal. So was Fury already gonna hit the canvas from the right hand? And, if so, what say you RE the left?
Good post.
Yeah, I've noted that his looping punches often connect with the unpadded wrist area of the glove. RE the first KD, does anyone have a gif showing he was hit on the back of the head?
RE your B3, I will look for that. Are you sure that one is illegal? Do you mean throwing out an open glove? That I know is illegal. But trying to pull the hands away too? I recall Frazier doing that to Ali, I think in 1st and 3rd fights.
Just looking through the rules, and I'm not sure about 3 actually...I would class it as holding and hitting personally.
I've rewatched the fight and he defo hit him on the back of the head...first shot behind the ear and the second...the knockdown blow was back of the head. Now I'm being a picky so and so because it happens in virtually every fight I've ever seen
If we're talking about rules that were broken there was a fair few...but seeing as I don't have any love for Wilders people I'm going to point out these.
1. You cannot hit with open glove, inside of glove, wrist or side of your hand.
2. You cannot punch the back of head or neck.
3. You cannot hold and punch your opponant at the same time.
1.Most of Wilders punches are either with the inside of his glove or the wrist...especially when he's windmilling, but that never seems to be an issue.
2.Well the first knockdown was back of the head...it's clear as day, so it should have been called no knockdown.
3.I don't know if others have noticed but wilder will throw a jab but instead of it being a punch he turns it into a grab to pull the opponents guard down and throw in the right. He done it against Szpilika , Ortiz and now Fury...it's illegal but who cares about actually boxing right?.
Good post.

When I saw him go down, I said “**** it’s over, Wilder ****ing did it”
When he got up, I was blown away. It’s why I argue against home cooking. I’ve seen many “UK stoppages” in my life, and I don’t think anyone would have complained if the ref waited that off before Fury sat up.
But I’m glad it went the distance. These guys like and respect each other and that’s such a breath of fresh air in boxing.
I said this yesterday on here, if that was a AJ opponents then trust me the ref wouldn't let him get up. He would wave it over. Not sure what the ref sure in his eye that made him not wave it off, but kudos to the ref, because not only did Fury finish the round he did it stronger and had Wilder himself stunned.
The KD was scary Wilder already doing his dance , but the fact that he got up and his legs weren't wobblying scared me. When the ref said walk to the corner/left and he did...I was like this guy is on drugs.

wouldnt suprise me if fury was on drugs lol...he looked like he thought he was a rave when he walked to the ring
What I loved (someone posted a full gif after the fight, I will look for it) wilder looked surprised, then he smiled at Fury. I loved that. Was a smile like “good for you, let’s do this”
Made me wish we still had 15 rounders!!

Both great shots, both legal. Nothing more to add, he has been looking to land those combo all night. He finally did but the shock on his face was priceless when Fury got up. I don't know how to make gifs but that was gif worthy.

Like other poster said the 2nd shot was legal. Fury may have been falling but he didnt hit the canvas, aka, no knee touch or gloves.
Lots of knockouts happen this way. Go rewatch Morrison vs Mercer. Dude was stood against the ropes knocked the **** out and Mercer kept swinging.
That fight you cite is def not the same. And the OP--me--said it was legal. That's not what I was asking about.
The fight you mention was poor refereeing as Morrison was out and ref should have jumped in sooner. That could have been a redux of Benny Paret. Refs gotta be aware of when a KOed fighter is held up by the ropes and jump in asap. That's a whole nother kettle of fish. The somewhat analogous thing was Ali-Foreman ending.
Fury was already going down. The last shot helped him on his way.
You can't hold it against Wilder instincts just kick in. It's split second stuff. If he doesn't throw that second shot and Fury hadn't been going down from the first then he let's Fury off the hook in a world title fight.
Thanks for answering about the first one.
I don't hold it against him as I noted it was legal. And Fury doesn't either from the kiss.

It was a good shot, how many of those follow up shots do you see falling short or flying over when an opponent sags or starts to fall? Excellent shot. And how can it be unnecessary? Fury beat the count, got up and finished the round stronger and should of been given the victory. There cant be many Boxers out there that wouldnt take that opportunity to get a clean shot off.
But the right had done the damage, the left looked harder than it was because there was no resistance in Furys neck so his head really rocked.
Well again I cited Ali had another punch ready to go and he held it up and waited till Foreman was definitely going to hit the canvas.
Just wanted to know if people thought Fury was def going down if only the right hit him.

You ever boxed? Try throwing a combo and stopping mid punch because you THINK the guy might be falling.
In the final round of a fight you’re losing no less.
