I think he's patiently waiting for the dust to settle. Wilder vs Fury vs Joshua winner and will try and take on the victor for all the unified belts.
Why?
- He was 1 punch away from beating the current best heavyweight in the world.
- He's still sparring monthly, sparred Usyk last month.
- He's incredibly competitive and wont want to go out on a loss.
- Distanced himself from his managers comments that he is not coming back.
He's done.
As someone pointed out, he fought two young top heavyweights in his last two fights and lost both fights. Nothing is going to change for the better, only worse. He can train and spar all he wants but his final two fights showed that the young 'uns have overtaken him. Nothing wrong with that, that's how it goes in sport eventually.
I think the fact that he could (and should) have finished Joshua off is eating away at him.
I know that's how I would feel, he lost a golden opportunity to be a total boxing legend.
As smart as Wlad is, he may decide to have one more dance...maybe against Fury.
Some of you guys are dreaming.
But that Joshua fight was klitschko going to the well for the final time, he came in very light and gave it everything but at 40 it just wasn't quite there anymore.
He's only going to be worse now, he's a smart guy and he himself will realize that
But wla d does kind of imply he got his tactics wrong that he should have tried stop him but tried tire Josh out instead.
sparring at 250 lbs is definitely different from playing recreational basketball :lol1:. nba players rarely come out of retirement. boxers do it all the time. retired HW get offers all the time.
in this case particularly i don't see wladimir coming back, but let's call a spade a spade.
Obviously, I didn't mean the physical aspect of it. But there have been plenty of pro fighters who keep sparring even after they retire.
But we can agree that Wlad doesn't seem like a person who has the need to come back.
I seriously doubt it. Most boxers who come back in their 40s typically face money problems or have nothing else in their lives. This dude speaks 4 languages and holds a PhD. If he can't find something to do after a boxing career, it would be shocking.
He's not coming back. Many pro fighters stay sparring even after they retire. It's no different than a basketball player who keeps playing recreational basketball after they retire.

I don't think he will. Only yesterday he ruled out the possibility of an AJ rematch:

He's in his 40s and the HW landscape isn't what it was when he was there pretty much towering over everyone and keeping them at bay with the jab jab right. Now they are his height/size, taller, younger, more athletic, and faster. He already had a go at two of the top 3 HW's (Wilder/Joshua/Fury) and came up short.
I think he has a shot to beat who ever he can keep at bay, maybe Parker, Ortiz, Whyte, Miller. But due to his age, those fights aren't given wins anymore. They would've been, easily, like 5-7 years ago, from 2012-2015 where he kinda still had a lot in his tank for these shorter guys. I think he would've always had issues with Joshua and Fury though.
