I think the Brant management team were influenced by this thread that I made.
After winning the title, they were talking about their willingness to fight in Japan for big money.
They want to fight in Australia too for Jeff Horn.
Again, if that is the case, don't you think it's idiotic for anyone of his opponent to fight him anywhere, but Japan?
If you're Brant's manager, don't you want your fighter to make more money in Japan?keep reading the posts. The MGM paid big money to bring him to their Park Theatre and brought lots of Japanese high rollers plus the fight will still be broadcast at a good time in Japan. Same reason Ricky Hatton fought here at times
All I'm saying is why are you guys justifying this Murata fight for GGG?
Are you fans of the sport or his accountants?
Don't you prefer Golovkin vs Jermall Charlo next year?
There's nothing to justify. Murata is exactly on the same level as charlo. Depending on how you rank them, you have Canelo Golovkin charlo bjs Murata Jacobs and derevyanchenko.
Jermall did not express any interest in fighting Golovkin after mandatory announcement, and I can't blame him - he's already the mandatory to canelo, why should he risk it against a very dangerous fighter for a quarter of the payday and no belts.
Same goes for Golovkin. He's 36 and finally getting big fights. Why should he fight a very dangerous opponent for much lower payday than fighting similar quality opponent for much higher purse?
Without belts at stake, they're not natural opponents for each other.
He does good viewing figures back home apparently.
If it works out that that translates into a good pay day for anyone fighting over there, then I wouldn't blame any MW for taking a close look at the fight.
And yet ggg still going to fight Murata and in 2019. Ggg wants it both ways. Everyone ducked ggg since he wouldn't get paid but ggg ducks everybody unless he gets paid? It's good business for sure but it shows how little he actually cared about legacy.
meh, not really. Murata holds the WBA regular which would put him on the fast track to a Canelo rematch while picking up a bigger purse than fighting Charlo.

Pretty much the point of this thread.
It's a myth.
Rigo fought in Japan as a last resort, or lack of fights in the US.
He made a huge impression there, but he was never invited back,
despite so many Japanese fighters having his size.
Chocolatito wanted more money in the Cuadras rematch,
and threatened to fight some fighter in Japan,
yet it never materialized.
So I don't know where this Ryota opponents making huge money in Japan is coming from.
Who started such bs?
No idea what the purses are, but I'm sure we'll find out in good time. Maybe the time for this discussion is after we got some solid information on the matter?
As someone who lives in Japan, people are overstating how much money is in this fight. Murata's fights are shown on basic TV as well as DAZN.
There's no PPV model here so I don't see where the big money is coming from. There is none as shown by the fact that they lost the purse bid to Brant who's unknown stateside.

I'd prefer Charlo - Golovkin but Murata's also a decent opponent, thing is I don't go ragging on other fighters for their opponent selection unless they're absolutely horrible (which Murata definitely isn't) so why would I criticise Golovkin for the same? Murata's a decent scrap for an admittedly bogus strap which appears to bring decent money - why not?

This actually made sense.
Murata camp did not want Brant, but he's mandatory.
So there was no need to offer the fight in Japan. He might lose??
But why would anyone assume GGG would be any different?
Because GGG is a bigger name, thus huge money for Murata?
What about the risk involved?
Why not pursue proven star, multi-titled Canelo, instead?
Again, why would Loeffler assume Murata would want GGG?
Why are you seriously making this more difficult than it needs to be?
Murata is a Top Rank fighter. Murata will fight on ESPN. Canelo is with DAZN. At this moment in time, GGG is a free fighter.
The biggest fight for Murata is either Canelo or Golovkin, the two most well known names in the division. Canelo is not possible right now, but Golovkin still is (for now).
They didn't want the fight so they didn't bid. They didn't think it would actually go thru.
They originally wanted to fight Jason Quiqly.

Still doesn't explain why the Brant fight is not held in Japan, but Vegas.
Could be a once in a lifetime opportunity for Brant to make huge money,
yet he's fighting him in America, not Japan.
No clue why......
But I think I heard Arum mention some Japanese festival going on the week of the fight or something in Nevada... no clue what it is though
Just trying to dispel this Ryota opponents making huge money in Japan myth doe.
Do you really think Charlo would be a tough fight for GGG?
I'm thinking it's the other way around.
Charlo may be a tough fight, but not in the way you make it out to be.
Honestly I could care less how much he makes, I do see it's logical that he goes for that fight. Murata is almost a national hero in Japan.
Every fight a tough fight in the upper echelon and I think Charlo belongs in that conversation. I see GGG winning as Charlo doesn't throw that many punches per round and I can't just see GGG getting knocked out. Don't think Charlo fight anyone to remotely for him to prepare for GGG because it's a huge step up in class and power.
You aren't really. I mean c'mon look at your title you literally asked the question about money in the title.
I rather see him fight charlo but he's on his way out so I dont really see why he would want to fight charlo. I want to see what charlo is made of though so he needs a fight someone with a pulse next year.

He is very popular in Japan and they pay well to see him. If he wasn't a big pay day GGG wouldn't be that interested in fighting him.
Again, for the nth time, why is the Brant fight not held in Japan?
Is GGG the only one interested, or who has right, in getting huge pay day in Japan?
Brant is not?
