I don't see a contradiction anywhere... The reason for Golovkin to stay at 160 for so long was an obvious plan to fight Canelo in a big money fight. In two fights with Canelo he's made over $50M combined, money he'd never come close to sniffing if he moved up to 168, regardless of how successful he might've been up there. His strategy was obvious and it clearly paid off big for him.
