It’s funny how boxing and mma are the only sports where the score is hidden from the competitors. I believe knowing who is winning changes the way you fight, and not knowing is a way for crooks to stage the results. I think it’s about time scorecards are made live. What do you guys think?
Yea thats the other good thing about open scoring is it puts the judges out there more.
One thing they need to do regardless of boxers knowing the scoring is judging the judges. In the NFL they got the best guys in the biggest games. In boxing that isn't necessarily so. They also need younger judges. Idk that there should be any judges who are senior citizens. You want cats in there 30's to 50's for the most part.
100%. There's transparency in other sports, where we know that Judges, Umpires, Refs etc are being held to a certain standard. Every day, an Official somewhere is being demoted based on performance.
In Boxing, it's all cloaked and back-room stuff.
That needs to change, before Boxing loses any more market share.
I would only be for it if they lied and told the fighters before the championship rounds that they were tied. Then you'd get the best round's you could imagine
Should be, yes.
But won't be. There's no way sanctioning bodies, judges etc will open themselves up to the scrutiny that will come alongside it.
Nor will the people who bankroll dodgy decisions.
Why is that necessarily bad?
In all other sports athletes milk the clock. I'd argue milking the clock when you are up is a strategy boxers should have access to like most other athletes have. I think its only a +. Fighters take less damage + prolong their careers with open scoring.
I don’t speak for all that watch the sport ,but I want my money’s worth when I go to the fights, watch them on PPV or even if they free , i want to see the fight all the way through until the final bell, I couldn’t care less about them prolonging their careers , them taking less damage just so they can take rounds Off picking and choosing which rounds they want to fight since they know for a fact how the last back and forth very close round was scored in their favor.I want the intrigue mystery ending at the last of the fight .
I was never really a fan the few times I'd seen it in use on.
It would be fun if both guys knew they needed the championship rounds to get the win. But, on the flip side could be a negative if a guy way ahead went into cruise control knowing he had a healthy lead.
Do the scores get read to the crowd? I can't recall.
Imagine the crowd reaction in a fight like Pacquiao/Bradley when the scores were announced inbetween rounds.
to the people mentioning trout though, surely thats a moot point because if it was closed scoring the outcome would have been that he'd have got shut out anyway. even though people thought he was doing well, the judges didnt which is basically the argument for open scoring so it at least gives you the opportunity to change something. i dont see much wrong with having the scorecards read out at round 6, that shouldnt affect the drama too much.
okay, well if you're Canelo last night and you hear right before the tenth round "you're winning this by four rounds, just don't get knocked down" do you think we have those exciting last three rounds last night?
No it won't matter and it also effects the fighters. They did it for Canelo vs Trout if I'm not mistaking and I thought it effected Trout big time knowing he was doing despite boxing Canelo well and Canelo dropped him
You're not going to fix corruption in boxing, that BS goes way back to Jack Johnson days when he had to score KO's to win because Judges wouldn't give him Decisions based on the damn color of his skin
If you're a KO artist, you better score a KO and you most certainly Can't get out-slugged and backed up by the smaller Boxer/Puncher which lets be fair, that is what Canelo was able to do at times...BACK UP GGG and then expect the Judges to Reward You the fight at the end of it
Yep. Or leap out of the ring like Kermit Cintron. Can you imagine Cintron being ahead late in a fight, knowing it through public scoring, then jumping out of the ring again faking a neck injury?
imagine the stunts guys like Hopkins and Ward would pull with open scoring! Christ!
plus if a guy knows 100% he's up in the cards, he's more likely to fake an injury if the opportunity presents itself. (feet tangle, accidental trip, can't continue...go to the cards!)

I would hate it personally, if a fighter definately knows he’s winning after 10 rounds say 7-3 he can intentionally get on his bike or minor exchange enough to not get KO’d last 2 rounds , no judge would give out 10-8 rounds if no knockdown occurred , just a 10-9 , then that seals the victory. If they don’t know the scoring it gives intrigue as some rounds could have gone either way on the buildup to the championship rounds .. just my 2¢
I agree. You had a fight that Trout should have been winning. Open scoring is posted and he knows he's down, then he has to abandon his game plan to stand and fight and was beat up the last 6 rounds

No. That would dictate the way fighters fight WAY too much, ala Trout vs Canelo

No.
That was experimented in the early 90's already.
Lou Duva had a fighter who was ahead ( Johnny Bumphus iirc ), and he was butted.
Lou insisted he couldn't continue. So, they went to the cards and JB won.
