Never seen him drunk like that and it is a terrible look, Your body is your temple and if you want to be a legend you have to be discipline...He looked overweight and drunk and was acting out of character...Broner and Tank were running around like clowns and I hope Spence doesnt down follow this path because it is a path of wasted talent...
All I am saying is the little things add up, while you drink another guy is not drinking and working, while you party someone else is in the gym working...To be the best you have to sacrifice all that mess and remain focused...The little things separate the good from the great and the great from the elite and the elite from the ATG'S...You will never make it to immortal status trying to live a normal life!!
This is far to much oversight and concern from a fan.
You sound extremely and genuinely worried for him.
This site is too much sometimes....
do you not think Duran might have been even better with more dedication?I'm sure he could have been, but if he had to do it all over again, I doubt he would change a thing. Obviously drinking is not good but eating great food is one of the purest joys in life and Duran enjoyed every bite and if Spence is a little heavy from enjoying himself, I'm okay with that. As long as he gets back to work when he has to, to excel and be his best. Cant be all work and no play.
True....but then some guys bloat up and come back down including ATG Roberto Duran. But then you have Hopkins who treats his body like a temple and that is most likely why besides having a great boxing brain, he was able to go for so long at a later age.

I agree, people older people who can give them a reality check and keep them focused, without that this world will eat you alive.
So true Larry. Guys, out of prison, working hard, when given a chance, took a paycheck for a little while and then opened up a business, never looking back. If you listen to some of these guys they talk about being "laced up" by older guys who made the mistakes already and made sure they did not make the same mistakes. Even in a social setting that has racial divides, abuses of power, and danger, when men can talk with other men, even in this less than ideal setting, look at what can result.
Simply getting men to deal with things like men when so many were raised up by single women... These woman can be great, but its not the same.
Women don't handle power honorably. Fathers are destroyed because a woman can, out of spite, wreck a man's life and livlihood. Often backed up by a white well educated female attorney, egging these women on. Like its good for the kid to have the father, who is trying to make some cash, punished.
The whole system is sick and dysfunctional.Women get that chip on their shoulder...im talking female cops, female doctors, attorneys, etc. In Baltimore so many of these kids raised in this system that emasculates men, cannot even see that "slapping a phone out of a fan's hand" for example, is an impulsive, female like thing to do...And what will Gervante do when he is hit so hard he tastes his minerals and sees chrome bubbles? If he is reacting like this to a fan? Larry someone has to get these young men right...before they get exposed in the ring that is.
:lol1: Supporting him is pretty strong language. Let's say I'm just not supporting Canelo.
That's ok, small steps. You will be walking outside with your GGG hat in no time!
it is certainly true that clean living is important...and doing things that make your body strong...usually not involving the local jin and juice joint lol.
It is also an issue of mentorship. Guys like Davis, and Spence and not that much older than some of our kids...i can't speak for Spence, but knowing Baltimore and the areas here, I would be willing to bet Davis could use some strong male mentorship... Broner is not a good influence. Already watching Davis slap a phone away, etc...
Davis also looks a bit heavy as some have said. This is precisely the kind of crap that will weed out guys with the talent but who are none too bright.

The problem with that is that we see them practically naked cause they are fighting and when they are fully clothed, we dont see them that way as much and cant really tell how they are. Just like when two fighters do a stare off when clothed - one fighter looks bigger and then in the ring does not. Every fighter's face will be a bit fuller between fights no matter how much they work out. Taking all this into account, Spence will be in great shape fight time. If he drinks at every saturday night fights, then I'd be concerned. My guess is he wont be. Broner and Davis I cant say for sure dont party all the time. They do party though. But I like the character parade of the Charlo Twins, these guys, and Easter. Those guys have personalities and liven the sport up a bit. I could watch them in a round table meeting free for all and it would be fun to watch.

I really have high hopes for Spence but you have to keep your temple clean and remain focused to reach that "upper level"

I know Tank has special God given talent but just look at Loma and Crawford.
Their is no way they would get caught up in any of these situations.
Just like Mayweather was totally devoted to his craft.
Loma/Tank Who ya got now PBC boys?
I'm not saying Loma or Bud do or do not but who on this board truly knows what they are up to when they go back to Ukraine and Omaha?
Tank looked like he had a little gut. I hope it was because of the thickness of the sweater's fabric.
Charlo bros seemed to be the more composed out of the whole bunch last saturday night.
...
A good black boxing role model would be Bradley or Porter, they are serious, committed athletes not thug wannabes like AB or Tank etc.
... right.....................
I've seen that as well. For the record, I've heard of the Charlos doing worse than drinking between fights, but that's neither here nor there.
Also, the Charlos have edema and struggle with it days after their fights. I've never seen them at the onset of it, but it's possible that you could've also seen them immediately after the fluids were released from their bodies.
With their health problems I doubt they're doin coke. They may have a drink here or there (I think they're all headed to camp for fights to finish up the year so maybe it was a drink for that, lol.)
To be fair I've never seen the Charlos look like they put on a significant amount of weight in between fights.

I see your point. But if they only hang out at boxing events and Spence only gets like this when he hasn’t got a fight scheduled and it’s not a regular thing I don’t think it’s a huge issue. I was at the fight and they were acting like fools all night hopefully Spence keeps them at arms length but like I said if it doesn’t happen often I don’t see it as a huge problem.
Like Sugar Ray Leonard who was doing cocaine within a year of beating Marvin Hagler?
I think we demonize drugs a lot in our society. Obviously they aren't good for you, but I also don't believe they are that bad with casual usage. I know plenty of people who've done all kinds of drugs & are high level & highly functional in their life in various fields. They don't use them daily or on any regular basis doe. Thats when I think you run into problems with drugs. And without digging into it too much I'm sure there have been all sorts of great fighters who drunk & did far worst things casually & kept to a high level for as long as they would've being like Floyd with his straight edgeness.
And I say this as a cat who has only done weed in my life, doesn't even smoke anymore & only consumes via edibles these days so I'm not defending my own bs I'm defending what I've seen with casual drug usage.
That said its still a bad look to be running around drunk on camera I can agree with you there as I already said.
Its about discipline, sure fighters can get away with some drug use but if they wanted to be at their best they would avoid it. Tyson was using coke in his prime and winning but the same discipline problems got him knocked out and because he was hanging around the wrong people ended up in prison and was never the same, he had a short prime.
Even something like only weed, look at lennox lewis, not the worse thing in the world but you can see the same discipline problem show up with him coming in out of shape and he got stopped by rahmen.
Someone with the discipline to avoid drinking and drugs is going to be more consistent. With coke, it shortened the prime of a lot of fighters. And maybe its not just the coke itself but the larger discipline problem. Guys like DLH and Hatton, ballooning up inbetween fights from partying ect.
