AJ's been saying over and over again that he wants to be aggressive versus Povetkin and finish him off.
Obviously it'd make the fight more entertaining and raise his stock.
But if he does that, Povetkin's odds go way up and he risks losing his belts. AJ's chin has never been known to be granite, and Povetkin has the hardest punch in the division (minus Wilder).
Thoughts?
Joshua's first job is to not lose.
Forget about whether it is pretty or not.
He should use his jab, pile up points, make Povetkin desperate to get into the fight, then walk Alexander onto his right hand.
If Povetkin doesn't bite, a UD gets you an easy win, albeit a boring one.
If he does bite, AJ plays Electric Company and cuts his lights off.
Povetkin has 24 KO's in 34.
AJ 20 in 21.
In all but one of his fights he's won by KO.
Sure Povetkin can bang and likely had more KO's after the Wlad loss due to peds.
But Wilder is the hardest hitting elite HW, with AJ and Ortiz following.
Povetkins power is being overrated slightly, his skill underrated.

AJ is boringly. He talks a good game and doesn't the opposite. Just use the jab and wait until Headvetkin lunges and when that big ass head and chin are exposed...land a counter shot. Headvetkin is old and small. He only has a left hook to worry about.
He could do with an exciting PPV tbf. His last 2 were meh really. Takam was decent enough but Parker was boring.
He seems to be moving away from that aggressive style for the time being which is a shame. I think Povetkin is dangerous however he tries to fight him.
My thoughts exactly. We might have an upset on our hands!

I can see him boxing in a style pre-Klitschko. Getting behind the jab and let his natural power show through combinations.
I think he knows there is a time for safety first and a time for crowd pleasing. He knows he needs an exciting performance to keep the public on his side.
I think he's coming in light for this fight, he definitely looks leaner which hopefully means he will have the confidence to throw punches in bunches.
This doesn't mean he will be reckless, I think he will take 2 or 3 rounds to find his range and then start taking it to Povetkin when he is confident he can handle whatever is coming back.
Povetkin though will always have a punchers chance. It makes for an interesting fight if Joshua doesn't go safety first.

Thoughts?I am not a boxing trainer but I think he should fight carefully. He has reach and better boxing on his side so use that to his advantage and throw bombs when the openings are there but don't try to force them. I think he can box carefully and still get the KO win he wants. He is ten years younger with faster reactions. Povetkin can knock him out so I think he should not slug it out with him.
After the Wlad fight AJ hasn't been the same. Getting clipped and dropped has changed him and seems to fight more cautious now. You could see it in his last to boring fights.
Povetkin has to get close to force exchanges.AJ needs to keep Povetkin at arms length use the jab outbox him if he gets him in danger go for the finish.
After two duds back to back he has to take more chances and be aggressive his stock has been going down since the Klitchko fight
Yes, but he will fight "scared" again - like he did against Parker.
He was reluctant to engage Parker so there is little chance he will come out and put it on Povetkin straightaway.
Naa he can lose that way, he will win a boring decision but if he picks up the pace in the 2nd half i can see him koing ped man in round 8. Making it a war wouldnt be smart
