Just in from a Ukrainian source https://www.champion.com.ua/boxing/2018/07/16/709060/
Usyk dumped his trainer Yaroslav Vatamanjuk.
"He wasn't really my trainer, he simply helped me in certain things. At the moment we went our separate ways because what he offered didn't help me develop."
"I don't want to work with someone just to have someone there. He's a good guy, but being a good guy is not a profession."
Update - looks like Russ Anber will take over the corner (cutman and trainer?)
Where is the evidence this JUST happened? it was mentioned in a documentary released today that was obviously filmed a while ago.
Cheers!
Looks like this is were the news sites pulled the quotes from.
I just watched the WBSS docu and indeed, looks like they split a while back and Russ is his guy now.
He'll outbox Gassiev regardless, he's just that skillful.
Unless Gassiev can catch Usyk with something, but Usyk has a great chin. He ate bombs from a big puncher in his last fight. Really that was the best fight we were going to get in cruiser, this one is just more "prestigous." Breidis is the second best fighter in cruiser and I think he beats Gassiev if they were to fight.
I had Usyk-Breidis a draw btw.
Russ Anber is a very solid trainer but....on 5 days notice though. I follow anber on ig and he was in vegas last i seen so now hes gotta fly to moscow to be with his fighter on 5 days notice?? lol seems like a ***** show to me

Who the hell dumps their trainer 5 days before the fight? The guy must have done something REALLY bad.
There is no evidence that this just happened, he said they parted in the documentary just released, but I think this was done a while ago.
Usyk needs no trainer.
He is very feel about this.
:boxing:
One thing I got from watching Gassiev vs Dorticos is what a vital role Abel Sanchez played in getting that win for Gassiev. Gassiev went into the fight with a game plan - no doubt, worked out for him by Abel - and he stuck to it, and it worked.
Maybe Usyk thinks he needs someone who can do the same kind of job for him as Abel did for Gassiev - help him work out a game plan and take charge in the corner to make sure he sticks to it.
For those saying he is doomed, dude dumped Loma's pops just before one of his fights. He also has dumped James Ali Bashir. So yeah, dude just likes going through trainers LOL. Hasn't affected him yet and Anber is a knowledgeable fella so he should be fine.
As the great Aaron Rodgers once said, R-E-L-A-X.
Damn.
This isn't good.
I think it makes no difference...Russ has more to offer.
The young guy was the vice president of the Kyiv Boxing Federation...I don't think outside of that position he has any boxing credentials.
Usyk is classically trained so to say, there is nothing that guy could offer him.
He had only one other fighter that he trained (Berinchyk) and he dumped him as well.
I'm glad Usyk dumped him, he was more of his boy, someone his own age that was more of a hanger on than a proper trainer.
Looks like the same excuse for getting rid of him that he had for Ali Bashir.
With Ali he said "I wasn't learning anything new", and so is the case with this guy.
