this is a comment from DreamFighter I found interesting.
""it starts with Geale (or without, since they fought FOR a title that noone had won ie they werent taking the title from anyone). IBO doesnt count to anyone other than IBO.
It should read from Geale onwards -
Marco Antonio Rubio (59-6-1, 51KOs)
Martin Murray (29-1-1, 12KOs)
Willie Monroe Jr (19-1-0, 6KOs)
David Lemieux (34-2-0, 31KOs)
Dominic Wade (18-0-0, 12KOs)
Kell Brook (36-0-0, 25KOs)
Daniel Jacobs (32-1-0, 29KOs)
Also add Canelo, since a draw is a successful defence.
GGG has 8 defenses.""
8
or
20 ??
20 defences recognised by everybody except for some wakos like you lol
so the majority of the posters here are wacos, ok if thats your definition I am in the majority.
so its 5 defences ok, unless he was the only title holder.
If he was the only WBA title holder for his early ones then its that 10/11 whatever.
thers just one title, thats all, dont fake it anymore.
20 defences recognised by everybody except for some wakos like you lol
how many does bhop have would be a more appropriate question seen as everybody is counting a no contest as a successful defence
hehe.. true! whats more is that he probably jumped out of the ring intentionaly when he felt like it wasnt his day lol
If you'd read

Was superchamp introduced during felix reign or not? thats waht this depends on. Sturm may have been the full on ONLY WBA champ earlier than his promotion.
If not then sure he has 5, awesome news, man, better for GGG.
If you'd read the previous quote or check the link you'd know that it was introduced for Trinidad for his very first defense against Hopkins 9 years prior. Nevermind, can't waste time if people aren't even willing to post facts & just pull shyt out of their ass. You already said Golovkin only has 10 defenses & used Sturm to justify it yet he has even less Super defenses. The point here is that WBA & every other sanctioning body recognizes the WBA regular as a world champion. This is why they are not included in other ABC belts rankings & is considered a unification if they fight one another.
ie..Canelo Drops, Decisions Trout To Unify WBC/WBA Belts
Sturm won the exact same title that Golovkin did.

Depends how you reckon it. I say 15 (or whatever it is now). I count the WBA World title towards defenses unless there is also an incumbent 'super' champion in which case that takes precedence.
If you count only the 'super' title you also have to - for the sake of consistency - derecognise all the regular titlists in all divisions since 2001 when the super title was conceived. Linares, Maidana and many others are effectively written out of the title record. I understand the desire by some to say that the 'super' title is the only 'real' one but this assumes that the WBA are logical, fair and consistent in the manner in which they bestow titles, when in fact they are anything but. One only has to look to the Sturm - Golovkin, Sturm - Chudinov and recent Davis / Machado situations to get an idea of how full of sh1t they really are.
On top of which the argument that the 'Super' title should be 'won' in the ring doesn't hold water and any kind of examination of their own rules shows exactly how full of BS the WBA actually are. As originally conceived the 'super' was just a special modification of the world title to reduce the burden of mandatory defenses on unified champions introduced in 2001. In 2009/10 this was changed to include World champions with 5 or more defenses and the requirement to be unified was dropped (this effected precisely one fighter - Felix Sturm). The current rules simply state that the super title is granted to regular titlists with 5 or more defenses - hence Geale (who was neither unified nor had 5 defenses) was ineligible. Curiously Golovkin - who had 5 defenses at the time Sturm lost to Geale was not elevated at that time as he should have been according to the WBAs own rules... go figure.
EDIT: Amusingly there is absolutely nothing in the WBAs rules which precludes them from having multiple 'super' champions simultaneously, which goes to show just how farcical the designation really is.
Great explanation & sound reasoning here!
Funny how the WBA re-wrote it's rules to benefit Sturm who was not a unified champ in order to elevate him & avoid Gennady. Sturm was also partially responsible for Taylor being stripped for the Winky fight. Yet some use him as the example why Golovkin shouldn't have those defenses counted?
I can understand 15 defenses in some people's thinking but to not count them from when Geale was stripped & Gennady was the sole champ is kind of ridiculous.
Be so much easier to weed through all of this if there wasn't so much corruption going on that caused this whole fiasco to even happen.
"It is my understanding that there was a request by representatives of Felix Sturm questioning whether Taylor had met all the requirements necessary to be the unified champion,"
"Sturm first approached Oner and was looking for help to find a loophole to prevent a match with Golovkin. Oner put Sturm in touch with a third party. The third party told Sturm that he could pay the WBA a sum of money to make him the "super champion" and prevent the mandatory fight with Golovkin."

9 (or is it 10 now) defences is only a few behind sturm
hopkins defences were official at the time and now.
Sturm won the exact same title that Golovkin did. WBA Regular World, yet you're counting Sturm's defenses, but not Gennady's? Sturm was only elevated to Super, the same as Golovkin. 7 of Sturm's 12 WBA defenses were for the regular.
Since we're talking about how to count defenses & who actually won the world title:
Hopkins only won the Super title because Trinidad was elevated as well. He fought Joppy for the regular version yet was named Super Champion in his very next fight against B-Hop. Go check the link I provided.
they call it the reg title. Its not the world title that they are referring to.
k well. its a can of worms for sure.
It certainly is a can of worms because of how the WBA operates & not enforcing the mandatory shot that Gennady deserved from Sturm. He made 5 defenses in that time. Like it or not, this is what we have to recognize unless we're going to say that Trinidad never won the world from Joppy, so how could Hopkins win it from him? Also Sturm must only have 5 defenses. Let's just be consistent no matter what your stance is.
that is up to the sanctioning body to decide. not the opinion of the crybabies. WBA recognizes their regular defences, so they recognize GGG's 22 defenses.
there were a bunch of people butthurt and crying over Bhop's IBF defenses too. It was a new belt then. IT DON'T COUNT! but guess what, they were official defenses. And counts. Your butthurt tears mean nothing.
no hopkins defences were official at the time and now.
I aint even saying he has 20 defenses, said from the start its 15, and if youre saying its not tell me who was the WBA champion in that time.

sorry if i mislabelled u a golovturd
oh i do for sure. but they arent claiming records they dont have.

Jones Jr, Cotto, Thurman, Lara have all been elevated to Super Champion, yet you never see people ***** and moan about them.

"he wasnt awarded anything" but in the same paragraph "he was upgraded"
lol
this is a major issue with some diehard golovkin fans, they contradict themselves over their hero and dont even realise it.

i thought this whole title defenses argument was put to bed when calzaghe and ottke both got 21 at virtually the same time in the same division. it doesn't really mean anything folks. artur grigorian had 17 defenses a couple years ago and no one knows who he even is.
calzaghe has 6 recognised ones.
the ones won when his belt was unrecognised dont really count, they cant be retro-fitted as recognised.
