BREAKING: Oscar De La Hoya told ESPN on Tuesday night that “the Canelo train has left the station” and that he is now negotiating with promoter Eddie Hearn for a Sept. 15 fight between Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs. De La Hoya said he has moved on from trying to finalize the rematch between Gennady Golovkin and Alvarez because GGG won’t come off his demand for a 50-50 revenue split and “it’s not going to happen.”

1. The IBF mandatory was basically set before the first Alvarez-Golovkin fight. No different than what Errol Spence Jr is doing in just under two weeks (to clear his calendar for the next year to whatever big fight he can get), Golovkin had a year to settle his mandatory. Golovkin had the WBC mandatory, had an unsanctioned fight against Vanes, and then the IBF did call that mandatory; "screw whatever money you think you're getting, fight our guy next or give us back our IBF belt".
2. Golovkin, in the face of public pressure and on TV, called to fight Andre Ward only at 164lbs, after thirsting for fights against Chavez Jr and Froch at 168lbs. Starting at 50% of the pot even then (when Golovkin would've maybe got 20%-30% of the money against Froch or Chavez Jr), was also pretty ridiculous.
Golovkin got 30% in the first fight, and then was set to get 35% for the rematch after the draw; what did you expect Golovkin to get for the fight?
1- Dev just got the #1 IBF spot less than a month before Canelo vs Golovkin happened, then the WBC ordered the immediate rematch. That pushed the IBF back until after the rematch. It's unreasonable to think that GGG should be forced to fight a mandatory in less than a months notice. Now, could he have stayed active & fought him over the winter? Yes, I would have supported that action but guess they didn't want him to with the rematch looming.
2- Ward agreed to the 50% split, just not the weight. Must not have been that ridiculous. Both his fights vs Kov did less numbers than GGG's so it actually played out that way as well. Ward vs GGG would have sold much more so I think the split proposed was pretty fair. Can't argue on the Chavez & Froch fights. Much more exposure, not sure what the split would have been for those since they never happened. I read that Froch turned down the same PPV structure that Brook took.
3- Loeffler deffinitely settled for too little for the first fight @ 30% imo, but they were being pretty desperate after waiting so long so I guess they caved. I thought GGG should have taken the 40% if indeed was offered. Sure he should have won the first fight but even if that was case I don't see how he could have asked for more than 50% unless he was simply going off principle with the PED's. It's a lot of money & neither makes it without the other. At this point in his career he should take the big money because he doesn't have the built in fan base that will continue to buy. He'll really lose his shine if he loses a fight or two.
I'm just saying.
Jacobs isn't coming in to lay down, and the talent difference isn't such that Alvarez is going to just smoke him either.
It's a 50/50 fight that either could win (Jacobs liking to scrap more than box creates a real good even fight, but Jacobs has shown that he can be walked into stuff too).
Nuance muddles the conclusion a bit, but helps make it far more accurate.
50-50 fight?
Goes to a decision?
Canelo will get it.
Some might give reasons why things didn't happen, others tend to see them as excuses.
If some don't like a fighter because they view them as being hypocritical then there's nothing I can really do to change their mind. They'll always be able to justify this reasoning with anyone, we've all been hypocrites at one time or another. I simply feel there are more important determining factors on how my praise is distributed. There's a lot of posturing everywhere, I try to look at the big picture & see the underlying character rather than get caught up on the he said-she said.
I do take exception to some things that keep being repeated though, such as;
1- Calling SDchenko a "mandatory" when he was never ordered yet, no contract & was on short notice. That's just unreasonable to me.
2- He offered Andre 50-50 in-the-middle, that's hardly playing A-side. 65-35 though is.
3- I agree he's allowed Canelo to dictate terms & has stagnated his career. I'd much prefer him to fight BJS next.
4- Never hear me say that GGG is perfect or has done everything I'd like ALL the time. However by all appearances he's always tried to prove himself & that's all I require as a fan.

When has Canelo lost a close decision fight? He gets all of them.

People sure love beating that Ward-Golovkin horse to death. Agendas galore.
Anyways, if Canelo fights Jacobs good for him. Notice this was a first offer per Hearn so it will have to likely get better.
Someone said DLH offered Golovkin 40%? If true I think Golovkin should have taken it. But I just keep hearing DLH say 50/50 is what Golovkin wanted. If he offered 40% why isn't he mentioning that?
Don't say I won't go the extra mile for ya. A little reading on the history. I can see both sides, but when the fight was able to be made, one or the other side claimed the timing wasn't right.
Jul 3, 2015 "Andre Ward turned down a fight with me three times to HBO."
Jul 8, 2015 “GGG would fight Ward on a 50-50 basis, the best 160-pounder versus the best 168-pounder 164 a 50-50 split on all proceeds. But it seems like Ward needs more tuneup fights.”
Jun 16, 2015 "At our meeting with HBO they asked us whether we are ready to box. You know our answers - I said yes, you said no."
They were discussing this earlier, but Ward was in court with Goosen. Then once signed with Roc Nation & says anytime, anyplace. We're all looking forward to the fight, yet now he needs 2-3 tune-ups.
Jan 10, 2015 "He'll fight him anywhere, anyplace, anytime. A fight against Andre Ward in Southern California would be very marketable. Ward's lawyer, Josh Dubin, sent me an email saying that Andre will fight him wherever."
JAN 09, 2015 Ward said Hunter wants him to "get in a two- or three-fight groove," sharpening his game, then to "fight the best," with names like Gennady Golovkin, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Carl Froch the most attractive matchups in Ward's weight range.
JUL 27, 2014 Gennady Golovkin, the danger that Andre Ward cannot avoid
the problem here is that when golovkins team alludes to ward turning down a fight they are alluding to a time when ward was known to be on the shelf
the first "quote" appears to be a headline..not a quote
164 was a surefire way to say "you cant make that ward...so get lost"....everyone knew ward would have all he could do to get to 168...that in itself was probably going to be draining for ward....yet they insisted on trying to drain him 4 more
if you didn't want to fight ward in 2016 coming off a long layoff...you never wanted to fight him...its just common sense
lil g on video "ward? he too much"
lil g is a fraud because he played the A side game with Andre Ward and his fanboys loved it.. but now that he's getting treated like a cheap hoe by the A side Canelo they don't like it as much..
he's a fraud because for over 5 years hes been saying his dream is to be undisputed yet he's been obsessed and preoccupied with Canelo all this time when he has no belts..
hes a fraud because he called other fighters "businessman" to ridicule them when they chose less risky fights yet he became a businessman when it came to Lara, Ward and recently his mando Derev.
i made a thread long time ago saying his obsessive stalking and ass sniffing of Canelo will backfire.. and here it is.
THIS ^^^ GGG is a hypocrite on so many levels. Mr I'm not a business man LMAO
please show me the date and confirmation from both parties on golovkins "offer" that he made in july 2015....ive never seen it
what we do know is that ward did reach out to k2 ...as confirmed by both sides...and k2 said no within an hour...and the excuse provided is the one I showed you....
ward also confronted loeffler face to face and told him to stop running their lips and lying about him...and loeffler said "its not me its the trainer".....

JUL 27, 2014 Gennady Golovkin, the danger that Andre Ward cannot avoid
That was a year later, Ward said by then he couldn't make 168 anymore. There was no discussion even going on at that time.
The part I never get an answer to is why Ward didn't jump on the offer? It was made Jul 8, 2015, just two weeks after Andre fought Smith. Ward didn't send the letter saying he'd agreed to the split until the day they signed with Lemieux. That was 3 weeks later. Perhaps if he'd have agreed earlier they'd have taken it. They at least could have negotiated or we'd have gotten a better answer at least. We'll never know.
after smith fight in late summer of 2015 ward approached k2....about fighting in 2016 after one tuneup each at 168
k2 said "no we have plants to unify"....they didn't get the canelo fight(even though canelo had no belt it was what they were chasing) until September 2017...almost two years later.....and k2 didn't want that fight in all of 2016 when they ended up fighting dom wade and kell brook
what logic and common sense can you use to believe that they actually wanted to fight ward before that? absolutely 0...none....because he was still in line for cotto and canelo

164=surefire way to kill the fight...which is what loeffler wanted
its not poor timing...lil g fought dom wade and kell brook in 2016 when he could have fought ward
lil g would have prob made the same money he did in the brook fight if he fought ward..which would have been a career high payday.....he didn't want that L though...not a good look to have an L when youre sniffing canelos ass

Actually Ward agreed to the 50-50 split just not the weight. Andre wanted 60%.
"My situation is much better. 50-50 money, 50-50 weight, 50-50 situation. This is logic, 50-50." -Golovkin

"He wanted 50-50 and I said give it to him. I'm not going to argue about ten percent." - Ward
This never goes anywhere, just round-n-round. I've moved past it & accepted for what it is. Just poor timing. One year earlier or later it probably would of happened.

Very good business move from De La Cutlery.
Fighting Jacobs a guy that lost to GGG although still a very dangerous move for Canelo.
Then fight GGG next year when he is a year older.
Jacobs in September and (if Alvarez wins the fight) Saunders in May for the WBO belt, before then (if Alvarez wins) taking on the WBO's top challenger September 2019 (Andrade is the top challenger, but that'd also be a fourth tough fight in a row)
When has Canelo lost a close decision fight? He gets all of them.
it was wards side who proposed 50-50..and golovkins team balked

Loeffler says that Ward’s promoters at Roc Nation Sports wanted a 50-50 deal with Golovkin. Loeffler thinks it’s better for Golovkin to wait until he fights Lemieux and the Cotto-Canelo winner before commiting to a fight against Ward, because they could get a better than 50-50 split of the money.
“It would’ve been a bad deal to take,” Loeffler said via the latimes.com. “If the pay-per-view for the Lemieux fight is what we think it should be, Gennady would deserve more than 50% against Ward, considering Ward has barely fought outside of California. So it’s unreasonable to ask us to commit to that right now.”

Hearn just confirmed to ESPN what Oscar said, that they have received a official offer from golden boy to fight Canelo. GGG phuked up big time pricing himself out. Will be stuck fighting high risk low reward mandatories for peanuts. LMAO
http://www.espn.com/boxing/story/_/id/23708536/oscar-de-la-hoya-negotiating-daniel-jacobs-camp-ggg-canelo-ii-talks-collapse
"We had a brief conversation with Golden Boy about a week ago or so and it was hard to tell whether it was part of the plan in the negotiations with Canelo-Golovkin or if they really wanted the fight. We confirmed out interest and today we received an official to fight Canelo on Sept. 15.
"I've taken the offer to Keith Connolly, Danny's manager, Danny. We're extremely interested. Obviously, it's a huge fight."
Hearn said he hoped to make the deal quickly and didn't intend on dragging things out.
Hearn is usually quick...
