I have been involved in the UK Media industry since 2002 and have also dipped my toe into UK Boxing on occasion as i've been contacted by some notable American Boxers to find them big fights in the UK.
Although i've never had any type of dealings with The Perform Group, i do know people who work for them and from what they've told me, the DAZN Hearn deal isn't worth the 1 Billion over 8 Years to begin with, infact the budget for the first two years only works out to around $4 Million per show and that includes television production costs too, which if any one knows about production costs can be quite a costly affair.
The Perform Group also have a Contingency plan to bail after two years if they don't hit their Subscription projections for the American Market.
There is some truth to the 1 Billion figure though, if after two years, their subscription base hits all the highest projections possible then yes, they will double their initial investment which would come close to the 1 Billion figure being talked about.
Modern Journalists just print the sound byte without actually doing their research so i challenge them or Hearn to produce a copy of the contract rather then just taking somebody's word for it.
The Truth is, most of the Top American Boxers can make equal or more money on Showtime/HBO then Hearn will be offering the first two years. There might be a few lower level Boxing stars like Keith Thurman or Adrien Broner who sign up for a few fights but none of the superstars of Boxing like Canelo, GGG or Joshua will be fighting on there and you really need those guys to get you subscriptions as the Thurman's of the world just won't do it.
I heard that about the 2 year plan also. That's why Hearn has to get top names quick.
When PBC was announced modern boxing writers dug deep & did extensive research and tried to find every reason possible that boxing on free TV was a bad thing
When Arum, Golden Boy, & Hearn announced their deals the media simply repeated the press release
I notice this too, the PBC deal was met with investigations, doubts and in some way prayers for it to fail but the boxing media. I understand been skeptical but the length they went to disregard the deal was appalling.
DAZN officially launch in June? Does anyone know the actual date? Suspect we might find out some of who Eddie has signed on that day or drop fed over following days (the latter might be a good publicity idea)
Sky and DAZN will operate seperately, they have no influence on whats on each others cards. All the DAZN money is for the 16 US cards, though theyll recieve the 16 cards Sky/Matchroom UK produces, and Sky gets the 16 cards Matchroom USA produces.
I thought I heard different, but I could’ve heard wrong. Wish we had more details.
I would think Hearn is playing the long game...the irony is that he doesn’t have a lot of time to do that. I’d like to know the details on Sky and how’s marrying that with DAZN. That might be his support system as he contibues to attempt to lure more fighters and make compelling matchups.

With any Subscription Service in America, the first two years they'll be Hemorrhaging money.
They'll pratically be losing money on every Subscriber they get...thats just the nature of the beast.
Its like COSTCO pratically gives their wholesale foods away, what they make their money on is the Loyalty cards and Membership cards.

True. It’s a 2 year, 4 year option, 2 year option. Unclear if flat but I suspect it actually tiers upwards so it’s not 1/8 of a billion in he setup year if I’m honest.
Although there is more to the breakeven on American subscriptions than you might think. DAZN will be looking to use this as an opportunity to add an extra sport to the other countries already launched and because matchroom is only really contracted in the uk that is feasible and would potentially help increase sales elsewhere too.
Time will tell how this does, and to be honest it probably largely depends on the other sports announced outside of boxing to be launched on the network/app/whatever you like to call it too.
I’m looking forward to seeing how it develops to be honest and hoping it brings a few extra matches to the table.

All true.
It’s a two year deal, options for six more, all based on the number of suscribers they obtain within those first two years.
It’s an uphill climb for Hearn in the US market.

Interesting post.
Everyone was caught up on Hearn wanting proof of the funds (50M) for the Wilder fight. I think it's high time we got proof of funds from Eddie. Lets see proof there is 1B I say!
Your explanations seen plausible but think he might have a slightly higher budget. He's said they have a larger budget than Showtime and HBO put together which I think is $40m and $25m. So if we assume he has at least $70m that is $4.4m+ a show. This isn't going to be a boxing channel, it will have other sports as well and for $10 a month I think it's more than plausible they could get 1 million subscribers. I remember when people said Netflix woudn't catch on.... If they bring enough quality content, people will sign up.
Hes got a lot more than $4mil a show, something the PBC guys want to keep on about. $4mil would be for 32 cards, but the money is for the 16 US cards, Sky takes care of the 16 UK cards. He has closer to $8mil per card

I have it, but it's only $10 (Canadian price). Very quality. It includes the whole NFL package, La Liga and Matchroom boxing matches.
Yeah ill have to give it a try in couple months probably. I think itll be $20 here in U.S. though
So you had the contract in your hands and saw the details?
Dudes salty with Hearn because Lundy called him up once and asked him to get him on a Matchroom card. Tried to get $100k but Hearn wouldn't budge off £80k
I always wonder these bussiness insiders they come up here to give us the "secrets" of the industry.
Some day we will find out that some poster was in fact Al haymon

We need it in the UK, pay nearly double that so Frank Warren can put on a card every other month.
Patience. Fighters will sign. Is DAZN up and running right now? And if so does anyone on here have it? Just wondering what opinions on that are. $20 is kinda big number when i add up espn plus app. Then the other things i pay for. content://media/external/file/46854
