I hate it when a fight ends with a liver-punch, a la Lomachenko-Linares. A fighter could be dominant and then one well-located debilitating punch could end his night. That wasn't the case here. I think Lomachenko was winning, but I feel that we spectators got robbed of an exciting finish. It's like a low-blow ending a fight. The area is so vulnerable and that creates pain which one cannot withstand. liver-punch is so debilitatingly painful in one spot, seems more akin to leveling someone by hitting him in the testicles.
ironically drowning is notoriously a rather painless way to die
I've never heard that and I can't imagine how it could be true. I'll have to read up on it.
^ Yes that. I've always felt that it was a faking job. It was a weak body shot and Oscar had never been hurt by a body shot before this fight that I can remember and was pounding the mat instead of getting up while acting like he's really hurt. Most fighters don't pound the mat and act like they can't get up instead of getting up. Ridiculous.
exactly. it was so fake when he did that. he is now the most corrupt POS promotor among corrupt POS promotors. it was a great way to start his business with hopkins
you mean when Oscar faked getting taken out by the liver shot from Hopkins? then he went partners with Hopkins after the fight

My pops came over to watch the fight. We were watching and were like wtf just happened! It wasn't until the replay we understood what happened. Thing of beauty.
Definitely. I was so happy to see the cheater get KO'd anyways. Karma is a b@tch
The fans weren't robbed of an exciting ending. They got an exciting ending. That was a wicked full power left hand Loma landed. It had speed and weight behind it. If that punch had landed on the jaw it probably would still have ended the fight. A light or average punch to the liver won't KO a boxer. If it would there would be liver punch KOs damn near every fight. It takes a smashing punch to the liver to end the fight and that is what Loma delivered.
A liver shot is the most devastating single punch in boxing. I've been hit by a few good ones in sparring and the pain is unbearable, it completely sickens you. I would compare it to drowning.

Exactly what I saw. I originally thought that the uppercut did the damage until I saw the replay. That was an awesome body shot!

Thought the lead up to the liver shot was a thing of beauty, the 5 or 6 punches that set it up. Didn't even know what had happened when I first see it, how fast it was. Only noticed on the replay. Linares on the floor wondering what the **** just happened

I remember seeing Kostya Tszyu talk about how debilitating a good liver shot is. He was saying how it just makes you so numb and you can't breath.
Then we've got these fatso keyboard warriors chastising fighters like Linares for quitting. Go figure.
He was up and trying to continue at the tenth count so I don't fault him for that. At all
Didn't the Golden Boy himself, de la Hoya, get stopped by someone by a liver-punch?

Not so much chastising him for not going on but for claiming he wanted to and could, neither was the case.
Like a low blow ending a fight? huh? I beg your pardon?
Not even close. That's sweet science. Loma knew he wasn't hurting Linares to the head so he started going to the body and found the Sunday punch. It's a boxing staple and ended great. I wish I could have seen Linares get a chance to continue so we could have seen him get pummeled more but it's life.
It's tactical, upstairs then boom to the liver. Takes a lot to set that punch up. We don't get to see it as much as a headshot ko so for me it was great.

Its a legal punch and always has been and on top of that its not as easy to land as you think. You can strafe some ones balls almost at will.
a well placed left to the liver is a thing of beauty
