From Fat Dan's chat today:

Dan, what could have caused the rift between Floyd and Tank Davis, it seems to me Floyd was so high on the kid and constantly trying to motivate him to be great

From what I hear it's a personal situation having to do with Floyd's daughter.
BBC always causing problems.
Tank has a ton of talent and the potential for greatness.
But he is immature and ungrateful. Floyd has put him in good positions time and time again. What more does he want?
I think there's an element of Floyd trying to vicariously live through his fighters which I could definitely see rubbing some of them the wrong way. He wants the Lomachenko fight because that's what he would have done as a fighter and probably won, and he would love to have a guy take out Arum's golden boy in his name. As much as Floyd loves money, I don't think his interests in promotion are strictly business right now, it's also a vanity project to some extent
And as for Tank, he may be young but he's demonstrating a very disappointing lack of ambition and self-belief with his attitude towards Lomachenko. I actually think he'd be one of the livest dogs against Loma below 140 but maybe he knows something about himself that I don't see yet
100% agree
Lol ok go to top rank and get embarrassed by loma? At least in goldenboy he will be more nurtured.
Nurtured?
Golden Boy is one Canelo loss from Oscar losing it completely.
They are desperate. Have they even made money this year?
What makes you say that? I don't really see that. I see him giving his guys opportunities, but I think the upside there is twofold. Its giving his guys opportunities, but its also getting his cards on TV & potentially pumping up names for the sake of those name but also the promotoon..
I think its more than a vanity project now that he's retired, but I definitely thought of it like that when he was active. It was a promotion in name only back then.
Now I think its starting to become its own entity more & more & up til all these unhappy fighters I thought they were getting in the right lane with it all & chugging along & growing. This whole thing they got going on now could implode tomorrow & make Mayweather Promotions virtually nothing.
When he came to the UK for the Liam Walsh fight the way he positioned himself front and centre of the promotion seemed a bit distasteful. Some interpreted it as him taking the pressure off his fighter but to me it mainly seemed like an excuse to keep himself in the spotlight and revel in attention some more
I thought he might be getting serious about promoting during the last Olympics when he was supposedly going to sign a bunch of the stand-outs but in the end nothing materialised. I doubt his promotion is adding much to his fortune right now percentage-wise with the relatively low-key roster and infrequent shows so that's why I don't yet see him as a promoter with only profit on his mind like Arum and Hearn for instance. I think it's more about the kudos and in the case of Tank vs Loma the possibility of getting one over on his nemesis Arum
See I think the opposite. I think Floyd was thinking on Tank's behalf awhile back. Now he's like "well f#ck Tank then" & throwing him in tough so he can undermine his confidence, career &/or just doing it out of spite in a fight he thinks Tank doesn't have great odds of winning & probably even less odds if Floyd isn't helping him cuz he knows odds are Tank is walkin at the end of this deal.
It seems more consistent with Mayweather's history as a promoter to match his fighters tough than to mollycoddle them, so that's why I reckon Tank himself is the bigger obstacle here than Floyd. Previously Floyd was willing to take the heat on Tank's behalf but now with demand growing, excusing dwindling and Tank acting up I think he'd rather throw him under the bus and protect his own rep
See I think he's just towing the company line. I don't think he's at all comfortable saying the sh^t he's been saying about this potential fight.
I dunno, the company line is now that they want to make the fight and Tank seems to be personally resisting that. It looks to me like he's using social media to bypass the whole TMT company line and get his own POV out there
People keep saying stuff like this & after that last performance on the Conor McGregor card (coming in over + the weird fight itself) I was steering more that way myself, but I thought he returned with a really good performance recently vs maybe his best opponent.
Tank has the power and speed to be a tremendous champion. The chip on his shoulder can either help him or hurt him. If he feels he is being disrespected then so be it. Go out and earn respect, don't beg for it
I imagine its both. I see both treating Tank like he's retarded. Floyd was acting like the dude ain't have trainers for months after he started promoting him. Ellerbe was acting like his daddy at that recent presser trying to make sure Tank kept it on the straight & narrow. Its funny cuz in some ways it feels like Mayweather Promoters is trying to push a square peg into a round hole with Tank just like TR tried to do with Floyd back in the day. Just let the kid be himself outside of shooting up the spot or other criminal sh^t but they keep helicopter promoting a grown ass man.

Tank would do well to take a step back and look at what Floyd accomplished. Tank may not be as good as Floyd was at the same age, but he has proven to be a draw in Baltimore and bring fans to Brooklyn, something young Floyd wasn't doing.
Tank doesn't seem to realize that hard work is what it takes to become great and maintain greatness. I think Floyd is setting up the Loma fight to try and get him to focus and work as hard as possible.
I hope Tank takes the advice but like many young men it seems Tank is the kind that can only learn things the hard way.
At first I thought the Broner comparisons were a little harsh, but right now it's looking eerily similar. Davis looks to be immature and obsessed with petty drama in the same way. Hopefully somebody will set him straight before he meets his own Maidana.
