He needs to move up ASAP...Don't waste your career begging for people to step up...Move up and get some REAL FIGHTS!!! Go after Heard..Should be easy to make!!
Been saying this for over a year. Changed my mind.
He should stay put unless he can find big money fights at JMW. Despite being very good, Spence isn't a pure boxer or a defensive genius to stay away all twelve rounds or beat the best guy in Hurd toe to toe. I'd have him losing that fight right now.
He should be selective and find the best money fights until the good welters grow some balls. Someone like Khan or a rematch with Brook, or Canelo at 154/5, would fit this profile nicely.
Isn't Khan calling him out? Spence should jump on that one!

He is going to take the ggg route Larry and wait around and beg while fighting cans
Hell no, plus Spence himself has said that his dream is to be the unified 147 champion. It's really boxing's glamour division so he should stay there as long as he can sustain the weight, which he looks to be doing just fine.
Crawford, Thurman, Porter, and Garcia are more interesting and bigger profile fights than the likes of Charlo (who he won't fight), Hurd, Lara, whatever else there is there.
How do you know he wouldn't be just as avoided at 154 as he is at 147? If 147 is his correct fighting weight that is where he should fight. Brook fought him. Vargas said he would fight him and I believe him. Khan said he would fight him but I am not sure I believe Khan who is still ducking Brook. Crawford is a brave fighter. I think he would fight him.
Idk that there is anyone at 147 I'd pick over Spence right now. You?
I pick Spence over all the welters.
A cpl of good tough fights though but i think he reins supreme over them all.
Just wish he could get in the ring with the top guys.
Gonna be funny when all the guys who criticized GGG for being ducked start making excuses for Spence and the lack of names on his resume. Dude will be 30 in a year and a half and no A list fighters in their prime in the win column.
I think he has another year in the division. If he doesn't get the big fights by 2019 then it's time to move up. I do think the matchups will pick up for him come next year.
phuk moving weight if he can't get any top fighters when Haymon has tons of top guys then he should bounce and sign with a promoter. What good is being with Haymon if he ain't sending you that top work.
I still feel like Khan is gonna go rogue on Hearn with that Brook fight. He has said some aggressive sh^t lately, but Khan is always all over the place & the reality is Khan is a guy who tends to go for the bigger fight when he's got a big fight in his eyes & Spence is gonna be the bigger fight. And Hearn did say Spence was on the short list of opponents for that 3 fight deal with Khan so its not like Spence isn't a consideration.
I hope so that would be a good match of styles if it were to happen.
Who ya got?

I made a thread about spence vs hurd......it was solid discussion back and forth..........anyway i agree....the hurd victory would be proving greatness.......imagine if he stopped hurd......
There's definitely a group of top welterweights that want no piece of him, but there's some that are willing to fight him. I didn't criticize GGG for not moving up when no top fighter wanted to fight him, and I won't do it to Spence. He deserves the opportunity to clear out Welter before moving up.
No. Wayyy too early, and the fights at WW are much bigger than 154. There's no big name at 154 - more than that, there's no true king at 154 either. Lara was kind of considered the king, but he lost to Hurd. But Hurd is not really considered the king because some think his win is more of a fluke, hence the rematch.
Spence should hunt for big fights and develop his resume for a year or two, he definitely has the time. Kid's only 28. If he beats Garcia/Thurman, that solidifies him greatly. By the time he's ~30-31, he can take a fight or two at 154 then move up to MW where he can reign in the prime of his career. He'll be a little older, but his power and skill should carry him.
Jumping up in weight not a willy nilly decision, and there are many good names at WW that he should at least try to get into the ring. Beating Hurd or Lara at 154 does barely anything for his resume, and if he decides to move up to MW, he needs to know what he's in for. If he makes that leap now, more power for him. It's NOT a quick easy decision though. Ward did it correctly, he took a few fights to get there and put on weight gradually.
Why not?????
If I was making a top ten list of guys at 147 who'd fight anyone I think I'd have to have Khan in my top 3 easy. Maybe number 1 idk. But I definitely don't think Khan would avoid Spence.
I just dont see Hearn giving him this fight especially not before the Brook fight.
I do think it would be a good fight tho.
If he isn't getting fights with the guys that share promoter with him at 147 why we should expect that the guys at 154 (who are also with the same promoter) will fight him?.
Both guys a few years older & a lil bit slower though lets not ignore that angle.
And he BARELY got by Lara. If he's barely getting by Lara I don't see how he gets by Spence.
I think Spence f#cks up Lara's sh^t worse than anyone if they fought next. Probably stops him or comes close to it. Definitely a wider decision if it does go 12 than Canelo or Hurd.
I like Hurd, but he's not a super skilled cat. He's big. And yea he's athletic. Spence is a talented f#cking athletic boxer doe. I'll take the talented f#cking boxer over the big athletic guy who's probably 3 fights or less from losing his belts on the scales every day of the week.
Hurd ain't gonna Deontay Wilder the 154 division. You can get away with that sorta primitive sh^t at HW, but in the smaller, more fundamental skills needed to win divisions it ain't gonna work vs tip top non-old guys.
I used to bash Hurd hard. I made threads about his best win being JoJo Dan or Titsworth. He proved me way wrong. He's no genius in the ring but he definitely has something going on for him.
