I've dumped all over this guy for having no talent and just being a weight bully but he's grown and I'll give him credit, he's legit. His skill is still fairly basic but he has definitely stepped up in terms of ring IQ and is using his natural assets efficiently. Strong mind. Strong body.
Respect to Hurd and his fans. :beerchug:
But you saw the difference in the 7th when he committed to it right?
Fo sho. He maybe should have used it more in this fight, but just wanted to point out that he DOES have a decent one.
All good though.
Gotta love his grit and no quit attitude. He was able to cut the ring off and do work. Props for Lara for hanging in tough. He was still fighting til the end. He deserves a rematch but I think at his age and the style he has he should look elsewhere for now.
That's one of his strengths actually, understanding his own limitations. That left hook to the body is really Lara's biggest weakness, shocking he hasn't fixed that but then again he hasnt fixed anything, he's just a solid one dimensional fighter who his fans hype for no reason.
Hype for no reason? He's gotten robbed numerous times and if he had knockout power he would probably have the highest ko% in boxing due to how accurate his punches are. Tonight he lost an extremely close fight that could've gone either way and he's 7 years older than his opponent.

And I’ll just keep repeating it: he might be the relaxed fighter in the ring since George Foreman. Just keeps working and trusts his preparation and power.
If he only had a jab. He used that jab in the 7th and dominated
He has a solid and stiff jab though. He used it against Trout after getting cut and IMO that’s when he really took over the fight.
And in fairness, it’s hard for any Ortho fighter to jab effectively against a southpaw, especially one as crafty as Lara.
He's a good fighter. He deserved the win tonight. He used skill, power, size and stamina to beat down Lara. He may not be pretty but he has talent and he should be respected for his victories and attitude. He also gave us GREAT entertainment tonight and against Trout!
I didn't like him at all when I first saw him, thought he was just another body in the division. He started growing on me the more I watched him and saw what him and his style was all about, he does a lot of little things here and there that can go unnoticed, he's just absolutely relentless.
TOUGH, Relentless, Heart, Excellent Chin what is not to like
He is a bit of a Weight Bully though, I don't know how he makes 154 he lookd bigger that James DeGale and Truex who fight at 168 on the same card :lol1:

Both guys showed major heart. But lara seemed so salty post fight interview........honestly he was lucky that the fight didn't have another round to go because he was ready to go......very hurt.
He got hit a bit tonight but I was surprised he was moving his head a bit more and looked to be improving on defense. Still needs a lot of work, but props to him on tonight. It was a real good fight
