What would you rather learn for no ruled, hand to hand combat if you had to choose between these two combat disciplines? Mainly for battle fields or fight to death situations where no weapons are available.
Capoeira *****es!! I'll dance-fight your tits off!
I had one of those guys kick me one time. Dude kinda lulled me to sleep after about 5 seconds of jumping around flailing his arms like he was on fire or something. Next thing I know, I feel a 270 kick on the side of my head, lol.
The second go round went a little different when I timed his jump with a thrust kick and put him on the ground. And he sure as hell didn't like the bottom side of the full mount position
If you are 5'5" 160lbs and facing a 6'7" 280lb dude, boxing won't help much there. You're gonna want to wrestle. Knowing how to disable someone bigger than you by taking their arm, twisting it and putting very little weight while twisting their wrist, ready to break it if they move comes more in handy than boxing when we're talking about big size disparity.
I know how to box, but I don't know how to wrestle and I admit, you'd want to know wrestling as a CO. It takes a little bit of weight and force to maneuver certain parts of the body even if the person is much bigger than you.
If we're talking about similar size, then you're definitely good with boxing.
A good wrestler probably beats a good boxer the vast majority of the time. Knowing how to manipulate a human body from close range is a great skill to have.
With that said, I do boxing and know that it makes me very dangerous in hand to hand combat.
Agreed with it all, that last point is especially true.
If you were talking about what's better for defense in a street situation against untrained guys looking to start chit, then boxing, no question. Can't wrestle 3 guys at once, but you can pop them all in the mouth pretty quick
Good point boxing MUCH quicker way of doing business. And a lot of times you wanna get it over before they really know whats up esp when not in your town. But ALL forms of combat are an edge. But like size that's all it is an edge.Fightin(street)comes down to mental attitude more then anything.
Boxing.... I've seen a few meatheads who were trained in MMA get their ass kicked by a boxer. Just because someone trains as a boxer doesn't mean they can't throw you down, kick you, elbow you and choke you.
I do both, but I’ve been wrestling since I could walk and am a division 1 wrestler, bjj is submission grappling but so is good old catch and shoot wrestling which is something most people don’t know because they are not grapplers.
I’ve been boxing for almost 5 years now also but I am glad I got my base of wrestling first because I was always able to beat most of the people I fought by throwing my wild hay makers and when I closed the distance it was all over for them
Hitting is faster than holding. And using wrestling can be dangerous against more than 1 opponent or someone who has any type of melee weapon (especially a knife). But learn some in-fight to counter wrestlers

Yea it really all depends on the situation, depending on the circumstances I could pick either.
Both can be equally effective, if you are trained in boxing you can hit and avoid get hit till your opponent goes down then you can just stomp on their head. Wrestling I can just go in take you down get in a dominant position and just beat their head into the ground. It depends on who you fight and their skill level in fighting
