GEORGE GROVES has stepped up his war of words with Chris Eubank Jnr by insisting he would have beaten up his dad in his heyday. Groves finally faces Eubank at the Manchester Arena on Saturday in the World Boxing Super Series semi-final after months of verbal sparring. Now the WBA super-middleweight champion has taken aim at his famous father. Click Here To Read More]
Okay, then by that logic, Mike Tyson's a bum because the first time he went up in class against Quick Tillis, he went the distance. Against a straight up journeyman. And Tyson's textbook punch slipping against Reggie Gross meant nothing because Gross was fresh off a loss against Tillman and had been knocked out by bums.
Because of those, Tyson's a bum. That's what you're essentially saying?
Dude this argument is just ridiculous. What poo t are you trying to make? This dos Santos guy was a nobody who fought nobodies and lost to nobodies and you are trying to make it as if it was a decent win for eubank. It wasn't, you can try and spin it how you want but nothing you can say will change my mind because in reality dos Santos was nothing more then a journey men
Manny LOST! That's the point being made here. You're showing your bias.
"This fighter only fought bums but was on a knockout streak but who cares about their skill?"
"This fighter lost to good fighters so it doesn't matter that they lost/got knocked out, they still deserve it"
Come on man, you can't seriously believe that.
If some fighter loses to Cletus seldon and another loses to Errol Spence, I'll take less away from the guy who lost to Spence vs the guy who lost to seldon. Your argument is extremely weak and I don't know how your trying to justify this
How was Manny mandatory for Floyd's title fresh off going the distance against Algieri, getting knocked out cold by Marquez, and losing to Timothy Bradley?
Who the hell knows. Point is it happened.
If your gonna try and make some comparison of this dos Santos guy and manny I don't know what to tell you. Marquez and Bradley are leagues above some unknown Craig trotter. Ffs algieri is better then anyone this guys faced outside of eubank
That poster Revelate is a boxrec poser! I owned him enough that he put me on ignore - I stay owning his ass! hehe.
Lol yea he clearly is, trying to argue that some nobody was a good win..
Don't matter whether you as a fight fan agree with the #1. The stats on fight night are all that matter. They had the guys at the top - who knows why? Who cares? Fact is, they were both ranked at the top when they fought.
In any event, none of this matters. This isn't about Eubank, it's about Groves. He got HANDLED TWICE by Carl Froch - sparked. If Carl Froch is able to spark this guy twice what makes people think either Eubank - Junior OR Senior - wouldn't piece the guy up too when both have higher KO ratios??
Silliness. Overrating George Groves severely.
How can he be #1 at anything if he was fresh off a loss to another unknown guy who was 13-2, and five fights earlier post to someone 13-10? Idc what boxrec says dos santos was a nobody who ended up losing another 8 straight
Exactly. Blame the letter orgs for being shady like that and putting mismatches up there so they can push their fighter.
But even Calslappy has frequently noted how strong and fast Eubank was. That he felt the wind from a punch that barely missed him and knew he got lucky. Eubank was a powerhouse. Defensively not that good, but offensively a powerhouse.
Yes, Eubank ducked, I've said it numerous times. Yes, Eubank's record isn't anywhere close to fighters like Lewis. Changes not how physically dominant the man was - and Groves has a big issue with physically dominant fighters. That's fact.
No I hear you, I'm not saying groves would win. But I give groves credit in that he's fought nearly all the top guys at 168. Sr was a good fighter and fought some tough guys in benn, collins, and calzaghe but he had a lot of terrible names on his resume as well
Lol right, all you gotta do is take a look at the guys record. He might of been #1 in a certain region of brazil but that's it

OMG you fell for that boxrec warrior faulty 'facts'! the system has been in need of an update -- sad thing is that poster believes it! go look at the tale of the tape in Eubums sr. boxrec page and you will get a #1. ranking in many instances! BWAHAHAHA!

Fair enough, I was wrong about Dos Santos. I should have checked him out. I don't know of him achieving anything or fighting anyone besides Eubank in '90, but the facts don't lie. Eubank was known for ducking when he was WBO champion, but you agreed on that anyway.
Like I said, I'd take Eubank to beat Groves anyway, he was no joke when he actually had no choice but to fight.
In my defence Dos Santos didn't look much when he got ironed out, Eubank wasn't known for one punch KO's like that. I stand corrected anyway.

Go look up dos Santos, the guy was never anything decent 15-12. Only decent opponent was Eubank and he blasted him out in 1 round.
Aaah. Hahaha sorry man, now i feel like a prick. My bad, that's my tendency to fly off the handle resurfacing! Sorry man, I've been arguing with Eubank Jr. fans all week on youtube about tomorrow night and it's obviously got to me, I'm wound pretty tight right now! Well that was meant for him anyway, he does seem like a dick! Peace!
I lied, haha! its all good ; it happens. That poster is lame too, don't waste your time with him, hes feminine in his ways.
I shouldn't have to do this for you.

I was talking about that poster you were quoting. You hurt my feeling for no reason.

Wtf is that supposed to mean?? My comments are hollowed??
Was Dos Santos a well known world class middleweight? Eubank's promoter has gone on record more than once saying Eubank wanted the easiest fights possible for his WBO defences. He had a list of conditions ffs.
Go **** yourself you prick.

Yes I said this, speaking of shoes Eubum sr. moved like he had two left feet, apparently he passed this trait down to his son.
The Legend returns!
That poster comments are hollowed, a complete waste of time reading his crap.
Best post of the thread.
RJJ94 keeping it real.

Fairly certain it was WBC, since Eubank was International champion for the fight even though it wasn't up.
The top of the food chain isn't dictated by you OR him. If the org feels like a guy like Reginaldo Dos Santos is #1, that's the way it goes.
Or better said, like Floyd, Manny all of a sudden becoming the mandatory for his belt after losing to Bradley, getting knocked out by Marquez and going the distance with a lightweight. The letter orgs are dirty as they come - you know that.
Don't change the fact Dos Santos was #1 when they fought.
I never said he didn't duck. I'm on record saying Eubank ducked Jones.
Don't change the fact that Froch put Groves to sleep twice, and if Froch could manage to pull that off - FROCH - Groves would have had Simply No Chance against Simply The Best.
What?? I never said Eubank wouldn't beat Groves, and I never said Froch didn't stop Groves twice. I'm a big Froch fan, I was cheering for him in those fights.
The Groves v Eubank Sr debate isn't what I was posting about.
I was saying knocking out Dos Santos wasn't a particularly impressive win, and asking you who was he no 1 with?
He certainly wasn't a well known fighter that I know of, without checking his boxrec.
You're answer seems to be you don't actually know, and you're bluffing that you do.
'pretty sure it was the WBC'.
So you don't know, you're just backing Eubank Sr. and pretending you do.
Like I said, I would probably pick him to beat Groves. That doesn't change the fact that he avoided hard fights in his career when he could do. That's widely known. He was a very good fighter when he had to be, yes, but that's not what I was saying.
I've always liked Groves but with such rubbish I'm going off him. Groves you couldn't beat Jack you are dillusional. calzaghe,Eubank,Benn, Watson, Collins, Toney,Roy Jones Jr,Kessler and even Pavlik would own you. You really have taken the idiotic spoon with such a ridiculous statement Eubank Snr would of KO'd your ass.
SMDH
Dos Santos was #1 ranked when they fought. Hand picked? Eubank took the top of the food chain when it was available, just like Crawford did against Indongo. Don't blame the fighters, blame the matchmakers.
"At the end of the day..."
Eubank at that time in his career was a beast and Groves wouldn't have survived 6 rounds. Remember, this is the guy Froch tucked in for the night. TWICE.
No 1 ranked by who?
I'm not sure who would have won out of Eubank and Groves, but I'd probably go with Eubank, on account of his toughness, but he definitely didn't 'take the top of the food chain'.
He avoided hard fights wherever possible. Watch 'The Gloves Are Off - Super Middleweights'.
He says himself in that that he never wanted to fight Toney or Jones.
He also swerved Mcallum when he was calling Eubank out.
Barry Hearn has said when he was WBO champion, he had a list of conditions for title defences - 'No one unbeaten, No one under 30, No one over 6 ft tall, No southpaws'.
I know he was brave when he had to be in tough fights, but he always wanted the path of least resistance.
