I know the official scores were very close and I've seen a lot of scores that had it close, some even for Briedis. I watched it stretched out a little too much on TV from youtube app that was only 360, I think. Maybe I wasn't seeing the connects clearly enough but I had 2 rounds Briedis, 1 round even, Usyk winning 3-4 obvious rounds, the rest competitive but edged by Usyk. Was Briedis connecting more than I though, you think?

I thought it was very close, I scored it 115-113 to Usyk but easily could’ve scored it a draw. Breidis activity definitely won him a lot of the earlier rounds but then Usyk seemed to take over in the back half of the fight, and yeah Breidis was landing clean shots relatively consistently.
You wont have to think if you count the actual punches landed .
Usyk is lucky he had a reach advantage bc it helped him to keep pressing . It was very close to a draw more than Usyk winning ,which he edged it out by 2 rnds , had Breidas won the last rnd its draw . They literally had a even punch count with Breidas landing slightly more head shots and Usyk body shots ( i only count significant ones ,not LOVE taps ,iother wise i call that tag ) .
You also have to look at the shots Breidas is catching him with coming in,he stole a couple rnds at the tail end of some rnds .
The correct score was 7 / 5 . Usyk
That isn't how boxing scoring works and you allude to that fact within your own assessment of the action. You still have to think, no matter what the punch count is, bud.
Really good fight that I really enjoyed. I think briedis was better than most people thought but usyk deserved the decision by a couple of rounds.
Probably. The division is pretty rich by modern 17-division standards.
Mostly agree with your OP - the more CLEAR rounds were the Usyk ones, the first CLEAR round of the fight that was what I'd call a dominant round was round 5 for Usyk.
I could write paragraphs for this fight, because there is lots to be said, but I'm not feeling it tonight. Breidis is a very good, fast and compact fighter and is very good in short bursts - Usyk prefers to fight a chess match where he can battle his opponent 1on1 in a test of who can hit who first, and he shelters when the pressure is on (not a criticism)
The thing is though, Breidis would win the crowd over on activity up close, where Usyk was covering up and not much was landing - Usyk landed the cleaner blows most of the night. Breidis also has pretty fast hands, and could land his jab first and often, mostly earlier in the fight but as he is the shorter man he'd overextend and Usyk, to his credit would take the hit but give one back.
The combinations Usyk landed and uppercuts were pretty good, a lot of his problems early came from presenting too big a target for the more compact Breidis - at the end of round 8 Usyk's corner told him to 'stay small, head down'.
I was going to say a lot more - but what I wrote is all over the place - as I said not really feeling tonight, just ate and need to get ready to exercise.
In conclusion though, I had Usyk winning 6 rounds, Breidis 3. Out of the 3 toss-up rounds one was leaning towards Usyk, one Breidis, the other too close to call.
Usyk: 7 rounds
Breidis: 4 rounds
Undecided: 1 round
Whatever the case it wasn't a dominant performance by the winner, it was a very tough and close fight between two great athletes with good boxing skills and insane cardio, as well as movement and reflexes +speed.
The CW divison ain't no David Lemieux, Cletus Seldin, sloppy brawler division, these guys are very skilled, seasoned, durable and have such a good workrate to cardio. All these guys are just clean athletes in great shape, and after the tournament any one of them can be champion again
Cool, cool, thanks.
I still haven't even seen the fight, as I heard it was ugly.
So I'm very interested to hear people's opinions too regarding the fight.
The boxing scene "open scoring" had it a draw....
From what I've heard thus far, majority of people don't seem to think it was nearly that close, with the consensus I've heard having it around 8-9 rounds/4-3 rounds.
I had it about 7-5 I think and yes, it was close, there is no denying it but down the stretch, Usyk had the cleaner work. The bigger story was how easy Usyk was to hit, just standing there and taking shots from a pretty basic Breidis.
Plus it was an ugly fight, not something I'd watch again.
Thanks, it might be against for full fights as opposed to clips or highlights. I'll watch this version if I get a lot of people who think Briedis was landing more than I thought in the other version. What did you think?

It was competitive but Usyk a clear winner.
I can't quite remember what rounds I gave him (Breidis) exactly off the top of my head but something like rounds 2, 4, 9 and the 12th
116-112 Usyk
Here you go brutha, goes up to 720p.
(is it against any rules to post boxing matches from Youtube?)

I enjoyed the fight but I know a lot of people don't like watching Usyk's style and find it ugly. If you don't like seeing guys punch for points more than power, you may not like it. Briedis was definitely punching for power though. That's part of why I think the scores were so close. He'd land maybe the best punch of a round but maybe be controlled by Usyk's jab for two minutes of the round before that, while he tried to find the range.
