We’ve had some great fights and great talent come through but it hasn’t been the same without TBE.
I know for a fact this is something we can all agree on. Floyd we miss you x
I somewhat agree with the OP. Boxing was fun in the Mayweather Pacquiao era. Every time one would fight we would discuss the other. Each guy was built up as the perfect foil for the other guy and that is always fun. The build up to there fight had a batman vs superman or clash of the titans type of vibe. It was interesting watching the fanboys of both groups go back and forth with each other. Floyd and Manny were two of the greatest talents this sport had ever seen.
However, the talent pool is starting to increase in boxing. There hasn't been this many talented fighters competing all at the same time in boxing probably since the 90s and that is good for the sport. Amongst the general public the interest in boxing has certainly waned but among the hardcore fans it seems to be at an upswing.
No, we are in a resurgence of having the best fight the best now. Great fights can be made. With Fraud, he created the pattern of low risk high reward. A lot of fighters want to follow suit.
We need fighters taking on their mandatory, even if that means a risk or danger of losing their "0". We need fighters trying to become something special and put their mark in boxing history, not for how much $$$ they generated, but for going against the odds and bringing in "W"s when they shouldn't have. DARING to be GREAT.
Sounds like the OP is just a fanboy and not a fan of the sport. I think boxings in a great place. I’m going to thoroughly enjoy watching how Loma, Crawford, and Spence’s career pan out. Then we got guys like the Charlo brothers who I think are going to truly come into their own as dominant forces. And geez I forgot about Mikey Garcia. Then we got HW which is the most interesting in years. Canelo is still young and has plenty of years left. We also got the WBSS which is cool. Can’t dent Floyd had a great career but there’s a lot of good things in boxing right now. If you can’t see that then sounds like you got nuts in your throat.
How was floyd fun?
He barely fought, and he altered the landscape so much because fighters would simply wait to fight him for a career high payday.
It was great fun waiting 9 years for him to fight pacman, that was just a pleasure.
Fighters were not fighting to box floyd, he was a cash cow.
147 isn't as fun without Floyd, there's no denying that. I like a lot of these new fighters, they've given us some great fights. But Keith Thurman is the guy at welter now and watching the low skill level displayed in Keith Thurman vs Shawn Porter just isn't the same as witnessing masterclass performances from an ATG.
It really isn’t the same without Floyd at 147

Nope, Boxing's doing just fine without the drama queen Mr. Boring. And with the other two dancing, clinching eye sores, Reward and El Cha Cha out of the way, it can only get better.
i COULDNT DISAGREE MORE!!! This is the most i have been excited about boxing in years!!!!! there are soooo many great young fighters to watch. i dont remember having this many stars in boxing in years and hardly any fights are on ppv. if your bored about boxing since mayweather left than maybe you were just a floyd fan and not really a fan of the sport.
Very true. So many young exciting fighters around at the moment, hopefully wanting to fight the best.
huge floyd fan here but nah I dont miss him. 2017 was imo the greatest boxing year ever. im enjoying this loma/crawford/spence era too much to think about floyd.

Thats funny coming from a guy who gave us dull fights his build to his fights had more action than what he did in the ring
so true!! i couldnt agree with you more!
No. It's been much better. These forums have been way more interesting too. I don't hate mayweather as much as some here do but "dull" pretty much sums it up for me.
With the reality tv blowup and global expansion of boxing he could have pushed it into the stratosphere. Instead he put on stinkers and every ppv was followed by a ratings slump.
Mayweather in the ring and outside of the ring was bad for boxing! Not exactly fan friendly jumping back and holding. outside of the ring materialistic woman beater yellow belly
It never fails that when a thread starts with I think we can all agree that I will disagree. Mayweather was interesting without a doubt but he was only one boxer who only fought twice a year. If I depended on him for my enjoyment of boxing that would mean two good fight nights a year. Boxing and the MMA stuff are the only sports I enjoy watching and two fights a year doesn't do it for me. Mayweather was never my favorite at any time even though he was so good. I didn't expect him to never retire. There are so many good and great boxers fighting today that I never give Mayweather being gone a second thought. Boxing is as exciting today as at any time in the recent past in my opinion. I wish the top guys would fight 4 times a year instead of only once or twice but it's been that way for many years now. That's my biggest complaint but all in all I love boxing today.
