When you see who else is in there he probably deserves it. If sly Stallone is in then why not tarver? Barry mcguigan was a good fighter who is also in the HOF. Did he have a better career than tarver? No.
I agree with that. None of them belong in there. Stallone being in is a complete joke. If baseball were run like boxing, Michael Jordan would have been inducted 5 years after his AA career ended.
That would be a travesty.
yes yes, definitely would be a travesty for a three time world heavyweight champion and two time unified world heavyweight champion to win an award. definitely an important thing to worry about.
I don't think he deserves HOF entry. He has a spotty record. IMO, Jones was never the same fighter when he came back down from HW. Even though he held a win over Tarver, he was still never the same fighter after losing over 25 lbs. of muscle weight to go back to LHW.
He lost to Hopkins and had back to back losses to Dawson. He was never really a big crowd pleaser either. Basic boxer with good overall skills, but falls short of HOF.
You make good points but I dont think it’s fair to bring up the weight. Roy was at the peak of his career when he decided to move up in weight for Ruiz. After that signature win, he decided to come back down to unify their titles. Ultimately he made that choice and even fought to a narrow victory that night. He had plenty of time to adjust to the lower weight after the first fight but Tarver was just his cryptonite.
He had to lose it three times to win it three times. Unified is not undisputed. Tyson Fury was a unified champion, next you'll tell me he's destined for the HOF too.
if fury becomes champion two more times, and unified one more time, he'll be destined for the HOF.

How many guys have been light heavyweight champion three times, and unified light heavyweight champion twice?

I doubt the PEDs kept him from landing jobs because he was on Showtime and Spike after that. Another poster said he got in some hooker scandal. I wasn’t aware of that but that will definitely keep you unemployed.
Yeah I wasn’t aware of that either, I know he was fired from Spike cause of the PED’s cause he tested positive for the Cunningham fight which was on Spike. As you say though that wouldn’t keep you unemployed so the hooker story does make sense, his life is a mess ATM, his wife/ex wife is ordering him to pay all sorts of child maintenance money which he doesn’t have. He owed like 800K last time I checked.

If cottos a supposed hall of famer for beating mosley, then tarver is a hall of famer for beating roy jones
Cotto's body of work is a little thin when you look at it but Martinez was a better win than Mosley. :lol1:
Showtime let him go after he tested positive for PEDs after the Kayode fight. That bridge is burned.
Spike kept him on the team despite his second positive PED test after the Cunningham fight, but Spike cancelled their PBC show not long after. The funny thing is both times he tested positive for PEDs he was fighting on the same network he was a commentator.
I don't know about the hooker thing but he did have a meltdown over a court ruling regarding unpaid child support a year or so ago.
There aren't a lot of avenues for him. The Showtime bridge is burned plus they have Paulie. HBO has RJJ, Hopkins, and Ward. ESPN has Bradley and Ward. Only place I see for him is FOX/FS1.
Bradley fvcking sucks.
Didnt he cheat on his wife with a hooker? Showtime wasnt having that i guess.
I really liked him on the mic though.
His lost both the Showtime gig AND calling boxing for the Olympics as a result of failing his drug test.
Not a hooker-that was Jermine Taylor. Tarver got exposed by his side piece after he left her in Australia with no way home or something.
He was arrested over 200k in unpaid gambling debits in Las Vegas and Al Haymon bailed his ass out.
Haymon then got him the Banks and Cunningham fights to get his **** together, but he blew that run by failing his drug test for the Cunningham fight.
And according to a news report from last year, he owes 750k in back child support and hasn't filed a tax return since 2007.
So..... he's a prime candidate for the International Poor Decision Making Hall of Fame.
Does he belong in the HOF?
I just read he’s super broke.
He had a cocaine addiction & a serious gambling addiction. All that training and fighting for decades and he has less then what he started with.
Does he belong in the HOF?
What do you think of Tarver?
He certainly deserves serious consideration. Three time light heavyweight champion. Two time unified light heavyweight champion.
Cause of the PED’s, that’s why Spike fired him anyway. Shame cause he’s is a pretty good commentator, he only has himself to blame though
