MMA invading Boxing... again... in 2018 (sort of)
Doucheface Dana White in a 'media scrum' last month - Starts at 30:00
"The beginning of this year, everybody who's anybody in the Boxing business is coming out here to meet with me... ... I'm gonna sit down with everybody, talk, and see what everybody's got going on, what everybody's thinking and I'm going to start goofing around over there a little bit...
Right now, I have two different plans, I have a Plan A and a Plan B. And I’m not sure which I’m gonna go with. But I’m gonna sit down, I’m gonna talk to everybody in the industry. They all want to come out here, they all want to talk. Fighters want to come out here and talk. So many people. So I’m gonna take like a month at the beginning of the year and just focus on this thing and see what we’re gonna do.
I think that right now is the right time. I just feel it. I feel like it’s the right time. Listen, can I do it? I don’t know. Will it work? I don’t know. But I feel like I have a pretty good idea of how to make it work. And I’ll give it a shot.
And in Boxing right now--in Boxing, who are the big stars? Most people don't even know half of these guys... When people/reports talk about Boxing and the money and this... you're talking about a handful of guys, and then there's a whole rooster full of guys who make nothing, and none of them are stars...
... No. I'll change everything."
So what's what?
What impact will "Zuffa Boxing" have on the sport?
Will Boxing fans be resistant to the idea of "MMA guys" getting into the Boxing game?
"The Future of Fighting" - new Apex arena opens, UFC/Zuffa enters Boxing
The UFC's new Apex Arena and Production Facility is "the future of fighting"
- Dana says he never said he was buying PBC
- Open to signing Mikey Garcia and other Boxers
- Open to purchasing an existing Boxing Promotion
- Open to partnering with existing Boxing Promotions
- Open to broadcasting Boxing events from other Promotions
- Could bid on the rights to Anthony Joshua fights
There were exactly TWO cards in Europe, one in Holland and one in Poland. There are over 40 countries in Europe so how the hell do European fighters get a chance to fight in their own country? Even if you're Polish or Dutch the UFC has maybe 1 card every two years there or maybe 2.
All those Dubai cards and Asian cards don't mean ****. UFC is a garbage American company and a pseudo-sport.
So what is Premiere Boxing Champions?
What is TopRank?
How many of their Events are held outside of the U.S. let alone in Europe?
To answer my own questions (and to bump this thread)...
PBC and TopRank just might be owned by the very same "garbage american company" (the UFC's parent company) pretty soon.

As far as I can tell, in all of 2017, PBC held only one Event in Europe, and a total of two outside of the U.S. (the other one being in Canada). http://www.premierboxingchampions.com/past-boxing-fights
TopRank scheduled Pacquiao vs Horn to air live in prime time in the U.S. I think I was around lunch time in Australia, what time was it in Europe?

I show you that the UFC actually holds lots of events outside of the U.S... (and not just in Europe, which you seem to be focused on)...
Well the fact is that fighters DO IN FACT get a chance to fight in front of their home-town crowds... and it's up to THOSE FIGHTERS to make the cards, quality cards!

I say, not at all. People love to see blood and knockouts, if these mma guys fight anyone with an ounce or two of skill they are fvcked.:boxing:
I was referring to the business side of things... "mma guys" meaning the UFC promotion getting into promoting Boxing.
In this particular case.
i didn't say promotors in boxing always restrict what sponsors can be used. but they can and they do. i remember a beef about a fighter whose manager i knew, chad dawson, having an issue with "condom depot" in that regard :lol1:. they also legistlated against those advertisements on fighter's backs.
what i did say is that boxing prmotors typically don't secure sponsorship money, which the UFC does. in the past theyt had a more diverse protram, not just an agreement with reebok.
they sign the name and likeness for a period, like say in a fight bought by HBO, forever. it's the property of HBO forever. that's nothing different or new.
i'm not saying UFC is perfect, but they have a middle class and quite a few guys who make "full time" fighting money. in boxing in the advent of premium TV you generally wait for the phone to call and have a day job, or you're a millionaire.
Woah, woah, woah... to be clear, the UFC didn't secure sponsorship for the fighters. The fighters and their managers/agents would secure THEIR OWN sponsorship (and that is where in some cases fighters would get "stipends"; money for training/while not fighting).
The UFC ended up TAXING the fighters and their sponsors, creating a fee for any brand that wanted to sponsor a fighter's shorts or be on the fighter's banner. And that lasted for years, some sponsors were being bled dry, but that's all gone now.
Now it's just shtty-ass Rebox... where nobody benefits. The fighters are getting a fraction of what they used to get with THEIR OWN SPONSORS... the UFC doesn't even tax Rebox... and Rebox got tons of hate from MMA fans, no one is buying their "fighters kit" merchandise. I personally will never buy Rebox again.
Boxing has the Ali Act.
I presume that Boxers are protected from being bamboozled into signing away their name and likeness without compensation, and maybe even royalty rights (like in MMA with the UFC). But I'm not sure.
About MMA having a middle-class, etc, yeah I've made that point too myself. That is true. But/and FWIW, the current UFC HW Champ is also a Firefighter-EMT in Ohio.

RedZmaja, you're talking out of both sides of your mouth...
For a non-American fighting in the UFC is a massive problem for several reasons. Most of the cards take place in America which means that you have to suffer jet lag or train at like 3AM at night to prepare for the American time, you can't have your local sponsors (a lot of boxers from Europe earn a lot of money this way because they can promote themselves in their countries and become stars there), you can't fight in front of your home crowd which would actually be interested in you - American audience will probably never be particularly interested in you if you're European especially if you don't have good English...
I show you that the UFC actually holds lots of events outside of the U.S... (and not just in Europe, which you seem to be focused on)... see here:

You try to swerve...
Those events outside of the USA sucked. Those cards were mostly garbage. Nobody wants to be on those cards. Do you think there is a fighter in Europe whose dream is to fight on an UFC fight night card in Gdansk, Poland? LOL everybody wants to be on big PPV cards because they're the only UFC cards that make money...

Promoters can't make you a star; they give you the platform and it's up to YOU do the rest.
...Who is the last big UFC star who fought in Europe? Conor hasn't fought in Ireland for ages. They had a Bisping fight in Britain but they scheduled it for 6AM in the morning local time so that the Americans could watch it at 8PM.
I guess Overeem in Holland in may 2016 because that's his home country but the UFC will never bring a foreign big name star to a European country.
Alexander Gustafsson headlined UFC on FOX 14 (a big card) in his home country of Sweden and drew 30,000 in 2015.
Well, as he was coming up (2009-2011), the UFC had Alex fight on...
UFC 105 PPV in Europe
UFC 112 PPV in Dubai
UFC 120 PPV in Europe
UFC 127 PPV in Australia
Then fought in the U.S. to build him up further (2011)...
UFC 133 PPV in the U.S.
UFC 141 PPV in the U.S.
Finally ready to Main Event, they brought the UFC to Alex's Home-County (2012)...
UFC on Fuel TV 2 in Sweden
Back to the U.S. to Co-Main Event a big card...
UFC on FOX 5 in the U.S.
Finally ready for a Title Fight, he Main Evented a PPV Card in Canada (2013)...
UFC 165 PPV in Canada
From then on, Alex has been a Main Event star, on all kinds of cards, around the world (2014-present)...
UFC Fight Night 37 in Europe
UFC on FOX 14 in Sweden
UFC 192 PPV in the U.S.
UFC Fight Night 93 in Europe (Co-Main Event)
UFC Fight Night 109 in Sweden
Yessssss. I've been rooting on some hybrid version of boxing/MMA for awhile.
And I've been a fan of boxing using lighter gloves for years on top of that. I think the padding inside of gloves actually INCREASES the danger boxers deal with in the ring. The brain is a giant p#ssy. There isn't any halfway decent shot that isn't shaking around your brain in your head & thats bad & not gonna make your life any easier as you start to age. If you are fighting its better to get blacked the f#ck out in 3 rounds with one punch than getting your a$$ pounded for 8 rounds & hurt + dropped twice before getting KO'd while taking 4 to 5 times the punches.
ZUFFA BOXING means nothing.
MMA as a sport is nothing, its UFC thats sells as a brand so they need to call it:
UFC BOXING or UFC BOXING LEAGUE and have their guys fight for the UFC BOXING WORLD TITLE.
They don't even need to sign any boxers. Just get the best stand up Strikers in MMA and get them to fight in a Stand Up BOXING ONLY fights in the Octogon so No Kicking, Take Downs and add Ten Counts and a few other Boxing Rules but create a new format of Boxing that works for their MMA crowd.
Allow some STAND UP Grappling too which might allow them to keep the 4oz Gloves, which would be a HUGE selling point.
If they do the above i think they would successful
If all they offer is the exact same as boxing but with a few bells and whistles like extra lighting and stuff, they won't last long.
Oh, they might get meals and that (they're also invited to use the new UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas 'free of charge') but it's not like they get a monthly check when they're not fighting.
And wait, are you saying that Boxing promotions restrict Boxers from securing their own sponsorship (Ads on their trunks, etc)? Or is it that it's not common practice?
I dont' think Boxers sign away their name and likeness in perpetuity when they sign with a Boxing promotion, like fighters do when they sign with the UFC vampires.
i didn't say promotors in boxing always restrict what sponsors can be used. but they can and they do. i remember a beef about a fighter whose manager i knew, chad dawson, having an issue with "condom depot" in that regard :lol1:. they also legistlated against those advertisements on fighter's backs.

Interesting comparison. Peter dropped Wlad, right?
Samuel Peter
6'2"
243 lbs (at his best)
77" Reach
Francis N'Gannou
6' 4"
262 lbs
83" Reach
Overeem gets a bad rap. He's not "chinny" so much as he has faced a murder's row of strikers (and comes from Kickboxing).
We never saw Conor commit to that big cross against the elusive Mayweather. Rogan said it, Kellerman said it, and I felt that way too.
Max Kellerman quote:
- "Conor McGregor, as most great fighters have, has an extremely high fighting-IQ. It's the reason he didn't really hit Mayweather with anything hard. He didn't load up on any punches...
Because Conor is smart enough to know, 'if I try to load-up on something, I'm not going to hit Floyd'... so he quick-punched him. He used his speed and hit him with arm-punches..."
Yeah Peter was one punch away in the 10th rd from putting Klitschko to sleep.
His best KO was against Jeremy Williams in the 2nd RD, very similar to KO of Overeem.
If you are a talented fighter in some European country boxing is the way to go. Get one of the ABC belts, market yourself in your country as a legit boxing world champ, get some sponsors, star in commercials and fill out some local arena for 20, 30 thousand people for titles defenses. Then use the belt as a leverage to get some big money fights abroad or even at home if you are from a big country like Germany, Britain or Russia.
The MMA/UFC road on the other hand means having to fight deep bellow on the undercard in America for small money, no sponsors and almost no chance to become a big draw. And you'd have to win 10 fights in a row to get even close to a title shot while a marketable American fighter would get it much quicker. Also, nobody will care much about you in your own country when your fights are at 4AM in the morning.
The rare Europeans who became stars in MMA are from the Japanese PRIDE days like Fedor, Cro Cop, Overeem...
Usyk is a CW champion and yet can't get a fight in his home country and has to consistently fight fighters in their home turf.
Americans and even the UK have it easy. A lot of boxers records would look much different had they had to fight in another country and face the judges over there.
Imagine American fighters having to travel to Russia with 3 Russian judges and a Russian referee? First and foremost you have to be from an English speaking country.
The reason Mcgregor got real popular is because national pride of the Irish and he coud speak English, therefore be marketed to the entire western world.
Thought you guys hated Zuffa/UFC because it was "anti-boxing" (this was never true, the promoters got started in boxing). Now that they're promoting boxing again what are some of you angry about?
Just sports fans doing your "Go team! Boo team!" thing?
Zuffa/UFC don't have a spotless history but they'd easily be the cleanest boxing promotion upon arrival. Boxing is a corrupt cesspool.
How long would someone like Anthony Joshua fight under Zuffa before getting drug tested and his manboobs turning into 2 old deflated balloons like Overeem :lol1:
You want to make a name for yourself and make the money, you have to be on a non-fight night card and most of those big 'numbered' events takes place in the USA, which presents disadvantages for foreign fighters.

They will be putting their best guys who might have some decent am carear with boxers who are not even 10% of what they were(Jones,Mosley,ODLH)and just hope to get a little lucky. They will also be bigger.Watch there are a lot of broke fighters out there that will be willing to take a chance to SELL their name.I hope I'm wrong but I don't see him building a roster and looking to get into regular boxing. He will treat the sport like a w hore lets face it many BOXING promoters do.

I got an idea its just a way to let his MMA guys box without losing out. They will keep trying to get an aging boxer with a name former great even. And will try and get wins over them with the former great being older, smaller and NO WHERE NEAR WHO HE WAS.Thats his main goal control his fighters who want to box and with them having a MUCH larger middle class everthing with be tipped in their favor. The older BROKE boxer will give up his rep(and that of boxing)for a big last payday. They will be lining up its sad
