It's the end of the 6th. Your undefeated, P4P fighter comes back and says, "My hand is broke, I can't do this anymore" (or whatever he said). What's your response?
This isn't some kind of bait Q. I just want to know how people would respond if someone they looked after and cared about hit them with something like that. Honest answers appreciated.
Personally, I would not accept it. I'm hardest on the people I care about and honestly, I'd probably go off. I'd let him know that getting back in there with Loma would be easier than what I would do to him if he quit on me like that.
How bout you?
a fighter has to be allowed to quit. if he says he's done, he's done. are you going to send him out there defenseless against one of the very best fighters on the planet? what about after the next round. and the next? when he's got no shot of winning and has taken several rounds of extra punishment do you now say, "ok, you can quit now?"
he had no shot of winning. he knew it. his coach knew it. i knew it and i was watching a garbage feed, because f#ck ESPN. it probably didn't have much to do with his hand, he never threw his left hand hard anyway.
dude quit. you have to let him. maybe you say, "are you sure" or try and give him advice and see if he comes around, but you don't say "no, you cannot quit, i will not let you." that's dangerous and asking for trouble.
is this f#cking arthur mercante hour? fighters can't quit any more?
remind him what the **** he actually defected for and why he got his gold medals made into a mother ****ing grill. slapped him in his face and recited back the tweet where he said he wouldnt quit like walters did.
First, he never had gold medals in his mouth, that was some joke made by Rigo, he said he sold these medals to feed his family in some other interview
Second, some other guy was running that Twitter account, it's already confirmed
So that wouldn't help
I would have got right in his face with one of these...

Just to remind him of what he doesn't have.

I guess my unkind response goes back to my childhood. I remember playing basketball at 8 y/o and the ball slammed me in the nose hard enough to knock me over. My mom happened to be there talking to other parents and instead of comforting me she told me I better stop crying and get back out there or the other kids would never respect me. I didn't listen and, sure enough, I was teased for weeks until I started getting in fights to earn my rep back and I never again showed mental weakness.
I think Rigo did himself a major disservice. He was going to take an ass beating one way or the other. But, in quitting he got an ass beating + lost his fans + became unmarketable + tarnished what legacy he might have had + ruined his rep as being a real dog ("The Jackal" in fact). The thing he escaped wasn't nearly as bad as the thing he created by quitting so early.
If he was in danger, ok. But, I did not see his health being at risk, or even coming close yet.
Sergey comes to mind.
He was deemed to be the Krusher. Yet you saw how much he complained and whined as he lost and yet he still had some dignity left to his name because he was able to say look at how much i was fouled. Still it took a backseat.
I enjoy reading peoples POV on Rigo, the good posters i mean and to see him go out like that was wack. Just absolutely wack.
He's from the old school, thats how it was. To see it now is a pretty sharp contrast. Boxing is safer place than it used to be.

agreed...accept in the case of magomed abdulsalamov. if ever the signs were there that a fight needed to be stopped...

dayum...you know I recall that now...I had completely forgotten about it tho. in his defence, I'm sure he had no idea about all that and golota was know to be a mental midget, but in retrospect it looks pretty bad.

Pull him the f*ck out. This isnt a game.

He was an animal that should have had whatever licenses he had pulled for life. Piece of shít.
Dr. Wesley Yapor, a neurosurgeon treating Golota, said the fighter sustained a concussion, a fractured left cheekbone and a herniated disc between the fourth and fifth cervical vertebrae.

so even if his injury was legit (he really did broke his hand), you're still gonna send him out there? what kinda robert garcia type trainer are you?? lol
Why not Vasyl did it too against Piriyapinho for six rounds and more fighters did that, also Mayweather,he quit because he had no answers and his trainer had no answers either to solve the puzzle that was Lomachenko that night
You complain and cry for years so hard and then finally get the fight you claim to want and just quit because your outclassed? Even if his hand was a tiny bit sore (I think that was an excuse by him and his trainer) at least try and do something.
I'd have told him the consequences real quick and whatever decision he makes tells me about his character. I'm surprised he gave up so easily. I knew he'd be outclassed the whole way but figured there was more fight in him.
