Listen to end of that fight about 11 years ago.Its like a hole another sport their trying to do now.WEith these announcers calling for fights to be stopped over broken hand or other bs.Just take a sec and listen to the way Lamps and some of these other hypocrites called the VERY END of fight and they way they do now.And I don't wanna hear "we know more now about head injury's"EVERYONE in or around boxing knows that shots to the head cause brain injury's.Its been well known since back in the 30s at least. And I think the best way to make boxing safer is to NEVER let guys like Roy Jones or Toney or others who are way past time to keep fighhtin even after many have been blind(pryoror brain damaged(mel Tayler)
Thanks, I haven't watched many guys from 80s and 90s, apart from big names. Haglers, Hearns, Sugar Ray, Chavez, Mike Mccallum, Julian JAckson...
But all of them seemed to be stone hard fighters, trained very heavily and strictly and successors of the previous generation of great boxers. I'll be checking for more.
You sound like you know the ones to pick.Lord knows we need all the younger fans we can get.Sweet Pea is one of my favs from that era.Take care
I just watched that fight last week, sometimes I let fights play on youtube on my TV while I'm doing **** around the house and that one came on, had to sit my ass down and pay attention. Larry and Jim were NOT happy that Jhonny got stopped. Miracle comeback from Vazquez, man.
Yea can you see DR Lamps talking like that now?And it was a comeback but with IVs power and CHIN I think he gets to big puching but skaky chinned JG 9 out 10.Stlyes
You should also check out 80s and 90s.Yea watching Mayorga fight is almost always fun or was.I remember him letting Tito nail him with like 3 left hooks in a row and did not flinch. And then later in 1st Tito catches him with shot he did not see and hurt him.

I remember that fight great fight. I remember seeing Izzy get up after all the KDs, and seeing that fire in his eyes. Knowing that Jhonny wasnt the sturdiest dude, I told the people watching "Watch, the tall dude is getting into a fight he doesn't want, the short dude (they werent boxing fans) is gonna KO the skinny dude." LOL, they thought I was Nostradamus or something.
I LOOOOVE these kind of fights. Seeing a dude come back from the brink.
BUUUT, I understand the extra caution nowadays. Just listen to all the punch drunk fighters. Hell, some of them dont live to get punch drunk.
I rarely criticize stoppages, unless they're really stupid. Love the sport, but my enjoyment doesnt matter more than boxers' health

😂😂😂 I do the same thing!
I usually end up never finishing what I start because of it
Great post and you could not be more right about Corrales and Castillo. We will PROB never see anything like that.Hell we wont even see Morror v Cooper. That fight gets stopped in 1st and we never prob ever hear anything about Morrer
In the modern day both guys would get stopped with the trouble they were in, in RD 1.
The uppercut Moorer ended that fight with was quality, Cooper was still complaining about the stoppage as well😂
Great Fight.

Today I was watching Cotto vs Mayorga and it was just fun. I enjoy the 00-2010 fights most.

I agree, at the highest level you have to give these guys the chance to continue(within reason of course) or you’d never get these surreal Corrales-Castillo moments, boxing has been and always will be a brutal and unfortunately, sometimes fatal sport, that’s just the nature of the beast. Fighter’s know the risks they take when they enter the ring.

Yea it was a great fight. But listen to the way they called VERY END.Mercent all but called Jonny Gonz a quitter.I mean I think he was out of line on that call Gonz was done. But can you believe the DIFFERENCE I mean a fight like that Dr Lamps and DR Kellerman would be screaming to stop it after 1 round.Jonny was down 2wice in 10 and was done but at LEAST he was given a SHOT.You can only make BOXING SO SAFE.Start telling guy to your right(roy jones) to quit fighting if you wanna help stop injurys.

That was a hell of a fight! Vazquez has a massive heart, He got dropped with a huge left hook in the 6th(the 2nd time he’d been down in the fight I think) then he came back in that very next round and landed that huge counter right that completely changed the course of the fight.
Such a shame what’s happened with his eye, not surprising really though with all the brutal wars he was in.
