One of my all time favorites. I saw PBF Floyd that night. It's odd how Floyd rocked Cotto hard but Canelo could barely dent Cotto.
Nah, Canelo shook up Cotto earlier and more often and more overall than Floyd did. Miguel is just a master of masking his trauma in the ring after all the early experience he had against Corley, Torres, Judah and others.
Cotto has been hurt many, many times in fights and most people in the world would never realize it looking at him but you can see his aggressiveness drop off and see him slow down slightly if you understand what you're looking at.
To me Cotto vs. Canelo was much closer than people thought. The only reason Canelo "won" was because of his superior strength. If Cotto had been the physically superior guy he would have won that match in a fashion few people could have disputed.
Good fight.
Cotto definitely had his moments, 6 and 8 were two of the clearer rounds Floyd had lost for years at that point.
This was a cross roads fight for Floyd IMO. When he came back from his lay off and was pretty stationary against Marquez, Mosley and Ortiz, preferably after Mosley everyone was talking about how "strong" Floyd is and how he was way stronger than Mosley, and he brought into it IMO, all in the build up to Ortiz he talked about being stationary and walking him down which is pretty much what he did for the most part.
I never understood it because the only time Shane actually got physical with Floyd (just before the left hook-right hand combo when his hands were down) Shane threw Floyd like a rag doll. But Emmanuel Steward kept saying it and everyone ran with it.
Anyway, against Cotto Floyd tried the same thing. Believing he was stronger than Cotto and after buzzing him a few times early he upped the pace way too early, and everytime it got physical Cotto was the MUCH stronger man. Floyd could not move him at all. One of the few times I have witnessed tactical errors from Floyd.
Another poster mentioned it but Cotto stunned Floyd at the start of the 6th with that subtle left hook. No one noticed it but he was buzzed. You always know when Floyd is hurt because his natural response is to put his hands up and tuck his chin.
Cotto performed well despite losing quite widely. He did himself proud and did things no one else has done to Floyd. That jab in the 8th (I think) where he timed Floyd beautifully was awesome, Floyd's nod to him as if to say "yeah you got me there" was a great response.
After this fight he starting moving a lot more than he had been in recent years.
Good analysis. People underestimate just how tough this fight was for Floyd. Cotto pushed Floyd's Cardio and maybe did the most physical damage to him.
He may not have been as close on the cards as Castillo, Maidana, and Oscar but he presented Floyd with multiple problems and it was one of the few times I've seen Floyd visibly fatigued. Although he seemed to get his second wind in the 12th and finish strong.
After the bell when Floyd was lifted on shoulders he shouts something like "woooo that boy can fight!"
It's written all over his face how tough a fight he'd had.
yeah those 2 brutal beatdowns he took didn't slow him down at all lol
Funny how years later he was still beating good fighters and giving Canelo a close fight.
Cotto was relentless in this fight. Fought just like prime 140 version of himself with that constant pressure and staying mid range the whole time. You can tell he came to win unlike a lot of Floyd opponents who have given up by the 4th round and content to enter sparring partner mode and survive (Maidana being the only other recent exception)
Cotto was younger then Floyd and speed and reflexes 1st to go.Cotto never beats Floyd. I think it would have been more one sided had it took place earlier.

Only people who suck dick is your grandmother, sister, father , grandfather, and your ugly ass wig wearing mother. Dont come at me with that new era fàg talk. Only fàggets talk about other men sucking dick.
this made me LOL hahahhahahah

Yeah, I was thinking that while watching the Ali fight. So many guys have been able to absolutely rattle Cotto with clean shots, but Canelo wasn't one of them. Weird.
His toughest fight ever according to him.
This fight would have been great in their primes. :boxing:

Cotto started slow, won the middle round and tired at the end.
Cotto showed he was the more skilled boxer. Floyd couldn't handle the jab.
If Cotto would not have been slow out of the box it a win for Cotto.
The scorecards were disgraceful
This fight proved Floyd was right to duck Cotto as a prime Cotto at 147 beats Floyd easily.
Had them eyes checked lately?

Burton was weird and awkward a very different fight, Cotto was tough really tough, I remember in the first round Floyd coming back to the corner and commented how strong he was, its also been revealed Floyd had a cold in that fight if you have ever boxed with a flu its draining.
A lot of guys that fought Floyd were in the best shape of their life for the fight that's what happens fighting the best and your a underdog.
That's very true(and NOT just Floyd)when a guys fights the best fighter PFP or big money fighter they almost always fight their best.
You sir, lost track of who was talking about what. Go back and read through again.
This started with a video of Floyd claiming Cotto was his toughest fight. I put a video he recorded a month later saying Burton was the toughest, and agreed with that. From that point on, Cotto's out of that discussion. You just got stuck in the past.
Whatever I have no time to go thru post if it was my mixup then fine you have my apology.
You're getting posts mixed up. Serio.
I did say Floyd went life or death with Burton. He didn't choose to fight like that, he had no choice, Burton was all over him.
As for your one other fight question....Arturo Gatti.
He never just abandoned his defence like the Burton fight.Gatti he just could not miss so he threw 4,5 or even 6 punch combo's.

any fighter is gonna look better against kameigai than they do against floyd.
simple mathematics bro
sure. but my that post was limited to the conditioning issue. the pressure kamagia put on cotto was 3 times that of what Mayweather did. COtto gased out vs Floyd and excelled vs kamagai. Distinction is the strength and condition coach of cotto in each fight. that is all I was referring to.
Not sure I said chin checked in 6th. But Cotto was working the hell out of Floyd throw rounds 6-8.
Yes Cotto Definelty was not in optimal shape. Compare this fight with the Cotto in his last fight against kamagai. You will be hard pressed not to see a huge conditioning difference between then and now. Besides that where have you been? Cotto is reputed to have bad conditioning issues. It’s not new. He’s only improved once he got with his new coach Mac.
Yes Cotto lost fair and square and for sure. I concur with you. All I’m saying is that a better trained and conditioned Cotto would be very dangerous for Floyd. That’s all

You said earlier that he chin checked him in 6th and beat that azz rest of way or something like that.I quoted it already not gonna go thru this thread and do it again. And if you think Cotto(who always trains)was not in best shape in life in his biggest fight then your hater or a Cotto fanboy. The fight was at HIS weight not Floyd. He is BIGGER and YOUNGER and he got beat.Nao shame he gave Floyd ONE of his tougher fights and is a future HOFer.But he lost fair and he lost 4 sure.
